It would have to be. Not that I’m across all things WA up and comers but I’ve not heard of her before
Yeah neither had I. Granted limited access to the senior games predominantly but Henry would have been my pick if limited to one, then Raison. But they’ll get added in 12 months time anyway.

Henry every right to be disappointed
It’s a good call this. I’m a fan of J Henry.

I’ll have to go back through some footage to see if we played Cleaver

EDIT: We did not.

Spoke to a EF official, said she stopped playing about halfway through the season so she could play netball. AFL giving an academy spot to someone who chose a different sport? All of those 2023 girls who live for footy would be fuming
Trying to win her back? Why though, when there’s clearly tons of talent going around there.

Yes indeed. Does anyone know how much meaningful contact time there is as part of the program? I can't see WA participants doing much apart from Zoom calls anyway?
They used to go to Darwin over the December holidays (once school had wrapped up) which was the highlight for them all. Most of the time aside from post-champs is just having access to more content/training/Zoom stuff.

More training for someone who didn't have enough time for club footy this year? I thought we had gone past the chasing people to play phase
I don't agree with it so you're preaching to the choir. Jaime Henry each and every day of the week for me, she's a jet.

AFLW Draft Features:

Tiah Hough (Sturt)
| Hough overcomes "scary" debut to adapt to League footy
- A small midfielder from Sturt who has some nice traits with accumulation and clean hands, just 158cm and needs to work on her kicking

Jovanka Zecevic (WWT Eagles) | Zecevic finds "new level" with role change
- A midfielder forward, won the Eagles' 2020 BnF, a potential mature-age (23YO) look for Port

Jess Macolino (West Adelaide) | Constant growth the key to Macolino move
- A Westies recruit from Norwood, 29YO and 162cm but readymade midfield choice, one of the better South Australians not on a list

Erica Greet (North Adelaide) | Greet eyes more Roosters success
- 23YO wing who runs hard defensively, SANFLW TOTY last year, premiership player in 2020

Jessie Sandford (Central District) | Versatile Sandford looking to make her mark on SANFLW
- Raw type yet to make her debut at SANFLW level, but a SA U18s Academy member who can play anywhere on the field

Millie McCarthy (Sturt) | McCarthy excited for endless improvement
- Defender with some nice upside, made her debut late last year and showed promising signs in the back 50, had a good U17s carnival

Rosie Boon (Norwood) | Boon chooses footy, sets sights on improving
- Ex-basketballer who has played midfield now ruck, really athletic and nice speed

Jaslynne Smith (South Adelaide) | Skilful Smith aspires to reach top level
- One the first mature-agers I'd pick in the SANFLW if I was Port, really lovely kick, good smarts and provides both offensive and defensive coverage

Jess Bates (Glenelg) | Bates praises Bays' culture
- Mature-age midfielder who could make an immediate impact at AFLW level if chosen, another solid choice if Port go down that route.

--

One for any Port fans out there, I've started writing the SANFLW features for State Academy and some mature-age players who were available. I've chucked it in one of the early posts in the thread, but thought I'd just let everyone know now. I'll link the feature and give a line about each player.

We'll do NAB League Girls over January as well.

Any sisters of past and current AFL (gender neutral) players plus SANFLM players?

Lana Schwerdt (coming soon) is eligible to Adelaide as a father-daughter pick and is the most relevant. She's Stephen Schwerdt's daughter. There's some others who are too young this year, but for your records, Violet Patterson (Collingwood - Stephen), Marlie Fiegert (Port - Nigel but is also Port Academy). India Rasheed (Roger's daughter) is another of interest, he played seven games for Sturt and was highlighted as a father-daughter option so assume that means Adelaide given Sturt's linked to the Crows.

Not a father-daughter selection but a fun fact, Tiah Hough is the daughter of Adelaide Oval curator Damien.

Also Matilda and Poppy Scholz are daughters of former Australian netballer Peta Squire (now Scholz).

Schwerdt, Rasheed and Fiegert I've seen names of.

Will be interesting that SANFLW will include Reserves in 2022. Noting that some of the really good players have been playing SANFLW as 15 year old. The change whether Reserves is more for development or more mature bodies in the SANFLW squads.

Perfect timing with Port Adelaide coming in. Previously they just played local footy so to be able to be under the watchful eye of their clubs is always going to be a bonus. It brings them in line with the WAFLW and QAFLW. Hopefully they are all going to be streamed too. Whilst anyone can spot the Lauren Youngs and Hannah Ewings of the world, seeing some of the depth players (perhaps at 15/16 and progressing through to seniors at say 16/17) would be great.

CROWS SIGN REPLACEMENT PLAYER

Adelaide has finalised its 2022 AFLW squad by signing forward McKenzie Dowrick.

Dowrick is a skilful, 172cm, left-footer from Western Australia who recently moved to South Australia to play with Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFLW competition.

The 21-year-old has lined up in 12 AFLW games for Brisbane and West Coast before joining the Crows this pre-season.

Adelaide Head of Women’s Football Phil Harper said Dowrick had impressed as a train-on player at West Lakes.

“McKenzie reads the play well and can break the lines with her long kick,” Harper said.

“She kicked a goal in our internal trial and looked dangerous whenever she wheeled onto her left foot.

“She’s made the big move over from WA and has been working hard to get to where she wants to be.

“McKenzie has experience at AFLW level and we think she can help make us better as a team this season.”

Harper said the Club was looking forward to the 2022 season kicking off, with a Round One match against Brisbane on January 9.

“We are pleased to have finalised our squad ahead of Season Six and the players are fit and ready to go,” Harper said.

“We’d love all our fans to get behind us this year with an AFLW membership as we look to sustain the success we’ve had.”

The Crows had one spot on their list available after dual premiership player Deni Varnhagen was moved to the inactive list last month.

Adelaide’s 2022 AFLW squad:

Sarah Allan, Najwa Allen, Abbie Ballard, Chelsea Biddell, Hannah Button, Teah Charlton, Ailish Considine, Dayna Cox, Nikki Gore, Caitlin Gould, Anne Hatchard, Jasmyn Hewett, Eloise Jones, Ebony Marinoff, Rachelle Martin, Montana McKinnon, Hannah Munyard, Justine Mules, Maddi Newman, Erin Phillips, Danielle Ponter, Zoe Prowse, Marijana Rajcic, Chelsea Randall, Jasmine Simmons, Brooke Tonon, Stevie-Lee Thompson, Ashleigh Woodland, Lisa Whiteley and McKenzie Dowrick.[/TD]

Woods joins the Kennel

Train-on player Jemima Woods has signed with the Western Bulldogs AFLW team for season 2022.

Woods is an athletic tall forward with clean hands, a strong work rate, and the ability to pinch-hit in the ruck.

A former Western Jet and Bulldogs’ Next Generation Academy graduate, the 18-year-old donned the red, white and blue in last month’s AFLW intraclub match, kicking three goals, and AFLW practice match against North Melbourne.

She also represented the VFLW Bulldogs on three occasions last season, kicking three goals on debut.

“Jemima is someone who has been involved with our program at the Dogs for quite a while now,” Bulldogs’ AFLW Head of List Management and Recruiting, Mick Sandry, said.

“She is a young, developing talent who has thrived over the past couple of months as a train-on with our AFLW team.

“Her strong marking and ability to hit the scoreboard makes her a really exciting prospect for us this season.”

Woods takes the list spot made vacant by Kirsten McLeod, who was moved to the Inactive List following ongoing concussion symptoms.

Showed some versatility to play ruck and midfield as well last year in the NAB League, although probably not at true KPP/ Ruck height for AFLW
