The 2022 AFLW draft is on Wednesday, 29th June at 6:30pm ACST

Port has picks 3, 7, 23, 31, 46, 63, 99

(South Australian picks 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 11)

It's a state based draft because AFLW players are not full time footballers, so it's likely we will draft six or seven South Australian players

South Australian top 30 prospects:

  • Hannah Ewings, midfield, 168cm, North Adelaide
  • Keeley Custerman, midfield, 166cm, West Adelaide (SA U18 captain)
  • Amelie Borg, defender, 177cm, North Adelaide
  • Ella Boag, wing, 172cm, Glenelg
  • Yasmin Duursma, midfield, 173cm, Gippsland U18 (Xavier's sister, she's nominated for South Australia)
  • Sarah Goodwin, defender, 168cm, Glenelg
  • Ella Little, mid/forward, 172cm, Woodville-West Torrens
  • Sachi Syme, midfield, 167cm, Norwood

My supremely uninformed and ignorant stab at our first Draft hand:

Unimpeded picks
1. Ewings
2. Goodwin
3. Custerman (Port NGA)
4. Duursma
---------------------
If still available
6. Syme (Port NGA)
7. Boag
11. Little
---------------------
If the Crows have picked any of our last 3 picks that I have guessed at by the time it's our turn again , then we take any of Borg, Jess Bates, Isobel Starmer, or else a delisted player from another club, such as McKenzie Dowrick.

Guess we'll know a week fron now!

Further evidence of what an entitled, arrogant organisation that WCE are, they've banned any player they select in the draft on Wednesday from playing in the WAFLW grand final, which takes place the following Saturday.

If they're worried about injuries, their suggestion that the WAFLW gf be moved forward to the Tuesday before the draft (ie 2 days after the prelim final) doesn't make a lot of sense other than they'd probably overlook a player who got badly injured. The suggestion got short shrift from the WAFLW.

Freo will let their draftees play in the GF, subject to a medical assessment.

After we signed Julia Teakle she told her East Freo team mates that she had played her last game, even though she was staying in Perth until she completed her studies. They are playing in the GF. I hope we didn't tell her she couldn't keep playing.

Absolutely need to select Borg. The Star Trek meme potential is enormous.

No surprise that we took Hannah Ewings with our first pick.
No surprise that we take Sarah Goodwin with our second pick.
We pick Sachi Syme at pick 23.
We pick Ella Boag at pick 31.
We pick Yasmin Duursma at pick 45.
We pick Amelie Borg at pick 61.
We pick Lily Johnson at pick 80.

Only pick 80 left for us. Not sure I will still be awake when they get to 80. Made it!

Adelaide took Keely Custermann at 40 which was likely to happen if we let her slide to 40, but we cannot pick them all.
