Wasn't there a grand final with 50k for the crows once?

Seems like it has gone backwards massively or it there was just some novelty factor at play back then.

Crowds are down in the Mens game too. We are still in Covid times with a different mentality. I don’t think they charged for the 50k one.

Dont discount COVID.

Memberships are through the roof - crowd numbers alone dont reflect the growth of the game

Not denying that crowds are down for AFL matches but they are not at less than 1/3 of their peak for grand finals.

Chin up, the next AFLW game at Adelaide Oval will have another 50k crowd.

And future grand finals in SA won't be at AO anyway, so for today's game to get 16k actually eases what would otherwise be a huge headache for the AFL.

The novelty factor certainly played a part.

But midday Saturday is a ridiculous time to schedule it.

Juniors and schools play Saturday morning, all the ammos and SANFL clubs have games scheduled today. If they had scheduled it as a twilight game or Sunday afternoon they would have had double the crowd at least.

If she played in Melbourne they’d have already named the league after her.
The Melbourne centric nature of all things AFL is cringey and pathetic. Chance at a fresh slate with AFLW, but they just cannot help themselves.

Also the economy is in the toilet despite what Treasurer Josh Cookednburnt says. High inflation, low wages. A lot of people can't justify the expense of memberships and footy tickets.

What are you even complaining about?? Three grand finals played in SA now, one in QLD and one in VIC, how does that fit in with the Melbourne centric narrative.

They haven't named any medals after anybody yet, and if you really think Erin Phillips is underrated by the Melbourne media, you've got no idea what you're talking about.

A player like Anne Hatchard tends to get overlooked a bit, especially by Adelaide supporters going by this thread, since most of them seem more interested indulging in garbage conspiracy theories than wanting to talk about her.

Quite enjoyed today's game, and congratulations to Adelaide.

The standard has improved so much that the worst team this season would possibly pummel the inaugural AFLW premiers.

Might want to re-read the post you quoted because your reply doesn't really fit.

Well it does. The whinging about poor little Erin being ignored is what doesn't fit.

Adelaide FC AFLW has been given free reign to a whole state’s talent. Cannot wait for Port to pillage them.
So did Fremantle......
So does Greater Western Sydney......
So did Brisbane......
So does North Melbourne......

Erin Phillips deserves the AFL Brownlow equivalent to be named after her.
Calls to Daisy are embarrasing.
idk - Charles Brownlow's career pre-dated the VFL's establishment. And he really helped pioneer the VFL/Geelong Football Club. Due to the history of that award and the history behind it. Naming the women's Brownlow after Pearce isn't the worst idea.

Give Phillips the equivalent of the Michael Tuck medal though.

Was earlier in the year - before manys interest at clicked over to mens
Was a Sunday - So more people could attend. Community football (and womens football) play Saturday afternoons in Adelaide. Outside of Melbourne and Sydney, I dont know a state that gets behind Saturday afternoon footy at the AFL level. I had to give up umpiring to attend, SANFL pushed back their games by 1 hour so people could watch both games (I arrived at Prospect Oval 10minutes into the game and that's the closest ground to Adelaide Oval) Adelaide Football League was scrambling to move womens games to other times to let the players attend.

In short - It was too late into the mens season
It was on the worst day for fan attendance in Adelaide
And the weather was bloody hot and not good for the fan experience.
Plus look at the covid influence - affecting crowds in SA by a good 25% at the moment.
