Hard to see any Eagle making it given our year but without Jeremy McGovern it would be way way worse. He’s been great
Missed 2 games and got absolutely belted by Lynch in another. Was in great form before that though.

Two brothers making their first AA from opposite sides of the country, there's a romance to this that selectors simply cannot ignore IMO.
Imagine if Fremantle v Demons grand final, two first-time AA brothers lining up against eachother?

It's poetry.

If Mills isn’t in the side they are having a laugh. Behind Cripps, the best mid in the game this season
Not even close.

He's averaging 26th in the competition for disposals, 27 in contested possessions, 39 for clearances, 12 in inside 50s, and 23 for score involvements.

By comparison, Oliver is averaging third, one, one, six, and seven for the same stats.

It's not all about stats, but they are very important. Not only isn't Mills a top 3 mid in the competition this year based on those numbers he's nowhere near the team.

Mills might and (imo) should make the squad but won't make the team

Angus Brayshaw second in the comp for marks, would love to know how many of those have been intercepts

17th in the league for intercept marks

I know it was Essendon but had a laugh he had 13 tackles alone, the useless duds that are named Essendon had 30 together for the game lol
More tackles than 16 Ess players combined.
Take out Waterman, because the poor bloke only spent 24% time on ground and still managed a couple (would easily have had 5-6 if he'd played more minutes).

I am biased but prefer Buddy as third forward ahead of Curnow. Not so much for the goals as for the score involvements (his field kicking inc I50 has been pretty useful) and the inevitable double teaming he attracts. The old fella is still capable of turning a game on its head - eg crazy 3rdQ burst v Brisbane.
Nothing wrong with a bit of bias, especially when you admit it, but the accompanying argument just doesn't stack up.
Whilst Buddy might get some double teams, if Curnow and McKay are playing together, that stretches defences and provides opportunities for others just as much as Buddy's double teams do.

why would this be relevant at all to the all australian team that is announced well before the grand final

It’s because he said Cripps is having a Dusty 2017 season. Not saying he won’t get AA but it won’t be as good a season because he’ll do f all in finals.

Was edwards who copped a lot of lynch, but yes, that is the issue with eagles being so bad, there are some games where he’s on a hiding to nothing as the oppositions key forwards get plenty of opportunities with excellent service. Not much even the best defenders can do in those cases.

Based on what? He’s never played a final.

Before 2017 Martin was averaging 23 touches, only 7 contested possessions, 0.3 goals, 0.6 goal assists and 1.3 tackles per final across 3 attempts.

What evidence was there before 2017 that HE would be any good at finals football?

Cripps' game is very well suited to finals football. Why do you think midfielders of his ilk tend to dominate once they reach there?

It's not like he's a small forward. Or Jack Darling.

Marcus Adams a lock for the squad at least

62 marks = 10th (Andrews)
31 IM - =1st (Collins)

Docherty seems like a good player, might win the rising star. Must have been drafted recently haven’t seen him before.
Don’t get the point of this post.
It may be some weird thing re his health, which is poor form.
But if it’s questioning ability, pre health issues he made AA squad of 40 in 2016 and 2017. Only very good players have back to back years where they are considered top 40.

The key back spots are tough. I assume that at this point with Sicily and Stewart almost locked in, there is only two proper tall spots available.

May Weitering Adams Collins and (gone mentally blank on the Freo key back) all have great arguments.

Then McGovern started amazingly and I think Andrews form is really improving back to his best.

He was in the team in 17, not just the squad.
