When was the last time they named a pure winger? This wouldn't be the year to start as no one is really sticking out in the role. Langdon started well but has dropped off since his rib injury, McCluggage is playing more inside now, Acres isn't AA calibre, and Berry is nowhere near it.

Likely they pick a pair of inside-outside midfielders to fill those spots, such as Walsh and Mills.
Agree likely but not right. It’s now a specialist role. No winger gets high possessions as they are required to guard space on their side. You don’t pick a ruckman as a fullback.n you shouldn’t pick a midfielder as a winger.

Moores a Great player but don’t think he’s had a season worth of all australian honours. Think may and Pearce (goes under the radar)

Would also like Sam De Konings name to be up there
Moore is not even close to being in AA form this year.

It’s been that sort of year for FB’s. Weitering missed half the year, May has missed a month, Andrews by default I have in there but who else is there?
agree with this finding it hard to select a fb is Pearce a chance? Or Ridley? Or Collins? Or Rampe not the best players in the league in terms of if I had a draft, but in terms of putting a number of decent performances together this year probably as well worth a mention as the superstar fb group.

Ridley would struggle to be in our top 5 in the BnF right now and we're 3rd last.

I think Tom Stewart is a lock for a position even missing these games.
Good point, forgot about him. Think they'll go the back 7, hard to leave them out unless they ditch Pearce/Collins and move Sicily as the 2nd key which he has played all year tbf

Wouldn’t be against Pearce getting it. I expect May or Andrews to get it though. However if they named Pearce I wouldn’t be against it

I think the defence is the easiest part tbh

FB: Sicily May Brayshaw
HB: Sinclair Pearce/Collins Docherty.

2 key backs, the interceptor/3rd key, 3 half backs.
It isn't cause you clearly missed Dawson > Brayshaw...

Outside of that it's pretty spot on, CHB is Sicily tho and Stewart still makes the side (probably?) otherwise it's

Brayshaw, May, Dawson
Sinclair, Sicily, Doc

You have Stewart who could still make it but idk how many games he'd of missed.

i have Brayshaw nearly locked now, he has a way bigger defensive impact than the other half backs. He's kept us in games on countless occasions.

Also would put Dawson on a wing tbh

Dawson has played a fair amount down back, i have Brayshaw on the bench.

My DEF is
Dawson, May, Stewart
Docherty, Sicily, Sinclair

Brayshaw on the bench.

Yeah, Sicily has played key back all year and played on many of the best key forwards (Lynch, Naughton, Cameron, etc). He is an easy selection which solves half of the key defensive dilemma.

Stewart (as the interceptor) is a tough one as he is easily good enough but will have missed at least 5 games. If he plays every other and comes back with a couple more BOG's, I reckon he gets in anyway (but there are a number of high performing half backs that could displace him (Dawson, Saad, Docherty, Sinclair, Brayshaw, etc) and Cox from Freo is underrated as an interceptor). The best performed full back is May (with an incredibly low contested loss percentage) but the same issue arises. I wonder if the nature of either of their suspensions will factor into the selectors thinking at all?

May only missed 2 games, 1 concussed, 1 suspended so i really don't think it's big enough.

Yeah I don't really think missing 2 games should have any impact on May at all. The way I generally look at it.

Missing 1-2 games should have no effect on AA selection

Missing 3-4 games requires a player to be clearly better then their nearest competitor to be selected (e.g.if it's a line ball call you go with the player who has played more games)

Missing 5-6 games requires a player to be an absolute standout, performing way above any peers in their position and a top 10 AFL player for that season.

Missing 6+ games can't be selected

Agree. Stewart misses 4 and got concussed early in another game. Think he probably gets in but has to finish well when he gets back

Also missed one early in the season so he will have missed 5. I would have him in but he has to finish the season strongly like you said.

He's also lucky that his closest competition Vlaustin has also missed 4 games so can't justifiably swap them based on games played.

Nah, Weiters was having a pretty average year for his usual standards.
Untrue. Had a lesser first month but was very much in career best form by the time he was injured. He was in pretty much every media mid year AA team.

That said, I agree that overall he was slightly better last year. Was just getting more recognition this year due to Carlton winning.

Yeah fair, feel like it was more than a month though.

I also don't think the competition for the key defensive posts is as stiff as previous years. May has been good again but aside from him nobody has been at the level of Allir/ Andrews/ May/ Moore/ Weitering from the last couple of years. Pearce and Collins deserve consideration and are doing really well as negaters but don't offer anywhere near as much offensively as those guys did.

Weitering was robbed two years ago of an AA spot by flavour of the month Darcy Moore, which still rankles to this day.

Take consolation Weiters will be an Premiership player at Carlton, and Farcy show me Moore Money (he took Collingwood for a ride with his last contract extension) never will be.

Swings and roundabouts, that's what footy is all about.
