Bucs select Marquis Hayes - G - Oklahoma

umbrqgvbvcijaj1ic3og.jpg

Hayes is a three-year starting left guard in Oklahoma's multiple run scheme. He has a thick build with extra weight around his midsection and is high-cut with good arm length. Hayes has an upright playing style with adequate foot quickness, and he doesn't always bring his feet into contact yet consistently manages to stay attached to defenders using a wide base, vice grips for hands and outstanding effort to run his feet, strain and sustain blocks.

Hayes is a very good run-blocker with the ability to drop his pads and dig out defenders on double-team and down blocks while excelling as a puller using impressive angles, body control and length to fit on his target. He has very good mental processing to not chase gap exchanges across his face, decipher stunts and pick up the most dangerous man on blitzes.
Hayes is a brawler who can generate jarring torque to work defenders off balance, tip and snatch them to the ground. His middling foot quickness and heavy feet delay his ability to redirect and can get him beat across his face quickly against countermoves, but he shows good patience with stiff, independent strikes to stun defenders on contact, latch and end reps quickly.
When uncovered, he is very active and alert, looking for work with a vengeance, oftentimes caving in the ribs of adjacent rushers. Because of an upright playing style, his anchor can be tardy, but he fights to rework his hands under and inside with good core strength to grind down the bull rush with a few gather steps.
Overall, Hayes is a tone-setting presence on the line, with the length, power and play speed to circumvent an upright playing style and below-average foot quickness. He understands how to stay attached to blocks and shows an impressive understanding of the play's intent that allows him to play faster than his athleticism would indicate.
While his ceiling is likely capped as a solid starter, he will likely compete for a job right away and has the tools to be a long-term, functional starter.

Bucs select Kenyon Green - OL - Texas A&M

xhh7lkgcgvzhmnecubzh.jpg

Green is a third-year starter who came to Texas A&M as the top overall recruit in Texas and a 5-star offensive tackle. He has amassed 35 career starts at every position except center in a heavy inside-zone-run scheme and projects best as a guard in the NFL. Green has a burly, wide-bodied frame with some extra weight around his midsection. He is naturally powerful with light feet and loose hips for his size, with the ability to mirror and stay attached to rushers who get to his edge, locate and overwhelm smaller targets on the move.

Green’s wide base and ability to sink his hips allows him to brace and anchor on command. He tends to overset rushers from wider angles who set up their moves with stutters and hesitations, leaving him vulnerable to losing across his face. He is a solid run-blocker who can cover up defenders with his size and grip strength, cave them in on down blocks and overwhelm linebackers at the second level when he squares them up.
Green doesn't always bring his feet on angle-drive blocks. He leans and gets too wide with his hands at the point of attack, which leads to his being stood up and forced into wrestling matches with defenders rather than resetting his hands and feet to get out of bad positions. His grip strength allows him to create a strong latch even if his hands are on the back shoulder pad, but he is vulnerable to holds that will be more pronounced in the NFL.
Green has key foundational traits to become a longtime, high-quality starting guard in the NFL, but he needs to clean up some bad habits and polish up his footwork and hands before reaching his potential.

Nick Bonitto, EDGE, Oklahoma

Double dipping again for a pass rusher as you can never have enough decent ones. Neither Smith or Gary are pure speed, so it'd be good to have a change of pace, especially one with a relentless motor.

Pick 94 Kansas City Chiefs select -

Leo Chenal LB Wisconsin

Both Anthony Hitchens and Ben Niemann have been released this offseason which leaves a hole at linebacker even with Nick Bolton and Willie Gay Jr. returning in 2022. With the developing youth at the linebacker position in Kansas City today, the idea of adding another rookie to the mix is why i chose a LB with this pick. Chenal would be an excellent option to bring aboard here.

#95 Bengals select Brandon Smith LB Penn State

1649977825972.png

Brandon Smith isn't the most instinctual LB and needs further development, but is one of if not the most athletic LBs in the class. He can cover TEs and RBs with ease, has exceptional lateral speed and agility for chasing down players, and has an aggressive motor and big play ability.

The Bengals were one of the worst teams at covering TEs in 2021 so this fills a need. Bengals have LB depth right now, but most of their LBs will be FAs at the end of the year, and apart from Logan Wilson anyway, the LB roster is pretty poor to be honest, so Smith can become a cog very soon.

His raw athletic talent makes him very versatile on defense, used in coverage, rushing downs, as a pass rushe, and on special teams. Smith has a 2nd round grade too, so this is a steal at the end of the 3rd round.

Cade Otton - TE - Washington

With Fant traded I wouldn’t be surprised to see broncos being in a TE to compliment Albert O.

Otton is not much of a field stretcher but is a sound blocker and is decent enough to contribute in the passing game.

Look at this dude - doesn't he just scream "Dan Campbell's kinda guy"? He looks like he's well and truly ready to bite some kneecaps.

But seriously, Kinnard is a potential 2nd round pick (he's 52nd ranked prospect on Dane Brugler's draft board for example), and the Lions need talent basically everywhere, even if they have all 5 OL starters from last year signed for at least the next two years

With the 99th pick the Browns select Luke Fortner, C, Kentucky

missouri-kentucky-football.jpg

The Browns cut JC Tretter this off-season, he has experience in the Zone Blocking scheme and both Brand Thorn (Bleacher Report) and Dane Brugler (The Athletic) have 3rd round grades on him, making Fortner a decent pick here. He could probably compete for the starting C job right away while also providing solid depth at all 3 interior OL positions give he also played guard in college.

Pick 102 Miami Dolphins select -

James Cook RB Georgia

Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert both joined the Dolphins this offseason on short-term deals. With Mostert dealing with injuries throughout his career, it’s far from a guarantee that he’ll be able to contribute for all 17 games. Even if Mostert were able to play all year, he’s only under contract for 2022.

With the amount of work that Miami has already done on the position by meeting with James Cook it is likely they will use this pick on a RB.

The Chiefs actually have quite a bit of offensive tackle depth, but with the injury to Lucas Niang, the team could find themselves in the market for an OT. I feel Goedeke is good value here.

With pick 111, the Jets select Brian Asamoah - LB - Oklahoma

FQY-PdkVsAUk0mz

Asamoah and his family emigrated to the United States from Ghana in 2000, and they settled in Columbus, Ohio. Asamoah was a standout high school football player with St Francis De Sales High School, but apparently didn't receive an offer from the Buckeyes, instead committing to the Sooners ahead of Arizona, Arizona State and Cincinnati.

Asamoah didn't see the field too often early in his time with Oklahoma, due to the complexity of the Oklahoma defence. However, he managed to do enough to get himself named as the starting ILB in the 2020 season, assuming the responsibility from NFL-bound Kenneth Murray. He was an instant impact player for the Sooners in the COVID-affected season. At the next level, however, he profiles more as a WILL linebacker in a 4-3 defence that the Jets like to operate.

The tape suggests that Asamoah is one of the more athletic linebacker prospects in this year's draft, and is particularly adept at diagnosing and getting after the ball-carrier in running plays, and he's not afraid to tackle, though smart offences can sometimes use his aggressiveness against him to get him to overrun plays.

However, his natural instincts for football will need some refinement at the next level, which is probably why he's slipped into the fourth round. He can be deceived by misdirection plays and he'll need to work on his pass-rushing capacities to add an extra string to his bow as well as to make sure that his run defending is consistent at the highest level. But the type of athleticism that Asamoah brings to the table is exciting for the Jets' defence, particularly when paired with the pass-rushers up front in Lawson and Walker (drafted earlier in the mock draft).

Small school standout with great physical traits. Needs time to develop but has great size at 6 4 and athleticism to boot. Dominated for Sam Houston State in Div 2 and did well at the senior bowl. He is the kind of prospect scouts could fall in love with and go earlyish on.
