Titus O'Reilly on the money here...

"St Kilda sack Brett Ratten after extending him in July for two years. It’s the millionth time St Kilda has St Kilda-ed since they started St Kildering."

Some candidates:

Pyke - One of those "more important things than footy" types. Has walked away before, has a substantial investment portfolio and quoted as saying he doesn't need to coach. No thanks.

Leppitsch - Terrible senior coach record. Excellent assistant coach record. Your guess is as good as mine.

Buckley - Said he's not looking to coach next year, enjoying the media. But Walsh is a big fan. Kinda rebuilt Collingwood to take them to 3rd and 4th in his 7th and 8th seasons. Could he be a "dynasty type" we're after.

Lyon - Hmm... have things moved passed him? Bit old school now? Our list was in terrible shape when he left. He's similar to what we need, but I'm not particularly sold on him.

GT - He's not interested.

Harvey - I don't think he's what we're after.

Hayes - Is he a senior coach type? GT didn't think so atm.

Enright - I'm happy where his is now.

Noble - Doesn't seem to be rated as a coach.

Yze - Geez, how many jobs has he applied for? Takes some strength to keep applying... or ignorance haha. I don't know much about him.

Choco - Is he more of a skills coach now? How long has he been out of the tactics side of things?

Bevo - Poaching from the Dogs? Still under contract. Unlikely you'd think.

Hird - Not a chance. He should probably earn some respect back coaching in a lower league before any AFL return.

Anyone else out there?

He stuffed up what was potentially a dynasty-type list from 2011 onwards when he took the role as well. Went backward every year from 2012 onwards until 2018.

Really? I didn't think much of that Pies list outside their midfield. Like us, I thought heading backwards for a while was inevitable. He had them back contending by 2018... and we're still waiting (despite the COVID year flash). But I'm not really sure and respect your thoughts here.

I might disagree here, I think they had a pretty good midfield.

Swan - 28
Sidebottom - 21
Beams - 22
Thomas - 24
Ball - 27
Pendlebury - 24
Seedsman - 20
Wellingham - 23
Didak - 29
Witts - 19

These guys went through the middle and were on Collingwood's list in 2012.

Didak was the only guy coming to an end and he wasn't really a mid anyway

No no, hehe. I agree about the midfield. I said I didn't think much of their list OUTSIDE of their midfield.

Jaymie Graham - has been mentiond for previous coaching jobs.
Apparently was no2 behind Fly at pies coaching applications.

Was development coach with saints 2012 and 13 so that is probably a big negative on his CV hahaha

Riewoldt on Lyon:

"We know what really happened… there was a bit of that (money)," Rooey said when asked why St Kilda players are still loyal to Lyon after he left the club at the end of 2011.

"There was a bit about respect about what had gone on previously with what Ross had been able to achieve with our group and probably a lack of respect coming back the other way from the football club."

Roo also gave an insight into Lyon’s strengths as a coach.

"I think his number one asset is his ability to create a high performing environment where there is just such strong accountability and buy-in from a playing group," he said.

"There’s tough love associated with Rossy... I think if you speak to the core of our group that came through at St Kilda with Rossy and the same with the group at Fremantle they would have nothing but praise for him."

Roo conceded that Lyon’s approach doesn’t work for all players.

"There’s a hard edge to Rossy as a coach, which isn’t for everyone," he said.

"You probably lose a few along the way, but those that are really gonna dig in and be the core of what you want to achieve anyway are pretty strong disciples."

He still seems very fond of the Saints... or, at least his men from that time. A few guys coming back to the club one by one.

IMO Geelong were the best team in the comp by as significant a margin as we've seen in a while. As has been documented, at the start of the year they did away with their coaches' line duties and instead aligned everyone to a team-first philosophy, so they no longer needed to worry about the KPIs of the area for which they were responsible. Certainly seemed to work for them.

Seeing Lethlean in the presser today speak about how we had just hired a mids coach, and we were looking for a forwards coach, feels like a fundamental missed opportunity to restructure in this area. With a new head of football and no head coach it is probably not the right time to do it but the fact it was put so bluntly rather than a generic "making additions to the assistant coaching group" makes me feel like it's a long way off.

No..we want a coach that can deliver a premiership, not a series of runners-up trophy's
I may be wrong , but wasn't Ross paid out a sexual harassment complaint and following that was out of Fremantle.
Just thought clubs would stay clear for one of the many reason's.
Also being vocal he might not be to managements liking and a big hard to control - the last 2 played by the book.

Wouldn't be surprised if J Blake had a subtle word to RTB about the coaching gig at this dinner...

fwiw my info is Lyon, thats why he didnt take bombers job
Ross Lyon with Lenny Hayes as the midfield coach.
Lenny won the Norm Smith Medal in the first 2010 GF.
That's quite the boss to have if you're a midfielder player at St Kilda next year.

Lethlean might give it back the other way if he keeps jiggling those man boobies.

A breath of fresh air not having to endure Ratten's hard nipples in every press conference in 2023.

My worry is that Ross' nipples are harder and more defined, looks like he has stacked on a few kegs in the last 12 years.

Design of the merchandise in 2023 could make or break us IMO

Honestly don’t mind this. It opens up a door for Hayes to coach us in the future too
