Not sure why everyone is so obsessed with key forward apparently being a desperate need. Some teams are still looking for just one #1 target and we have two in Jack and Lynch. Samson, Bauer in the twos. Balta can swing forward if required.

Exactly.People seem to forget Ryan is exactly what the Lemmys & Scullys are of this draft but with a few years ahead of.

They all showed far more as forwards in their draft years than any of the guys your wanting us to take. Can’t see how we blew it by not giving out two year contracts to guys with less ability than players already on our list.

What you mean? They were all defenders in their draft years.
Im just saying given the situation we are in, it would have been worth to take project forwards in the hope 1 becomes decent. We have loaded up on mids and defenders recently so this was the year to do it.
When Riewoldt retires, and lynch is injured, we literally don’t have a key forward other than Bauer who hasn’t played a game and I think he’s only a mid sized forward anyway.
This isn’t just my opinion, it seems pretty common across the board and most journalists.
I believe we thought keeler/lemmey would have been there but got taken just before us so we just went random best available.

Balta gibcus and Miller are all defenders! They should NOT be used as a forward. It’s plain simple. You don’t mess with their careers.
We blew it, and will need to trade for a forward next year. We don’t even have a first rounder.

Miller played ruck fwd predominately from about halfway through the season and looked pretty good there for mine.

For the club to do this they must feel comfortable with what they have. Bauer has worked his arse off in the off season, Ryan is maturing -they obviously felt they were better prospects long terms than what was left in this draft

Smith is not a speculative pick at all. We have done extremely well out of WA and with players who have limited exposed form due to injury. Smith is a very good player and his exvellent kicking sets him apart from players like Mansell etc who can be hit or miss.

Hope you're right. Was obviously playing it up, at the end of the day we get what we get with pick 49 in a weak draft.
