You always need a developing Ruckman specially on the rookie list

We have nank (28 years) and Ivan Soldo (27 in april) Ryan (22)
takes 5 years for a Ruckman to get physically ready to compete both Soldo/Nank will just about be finished and soldo will most likely be at another club in 1-2 years time

No you don't, but aside from Soldo backup, we have Miller, Ryan developing and Colina also developing

We've got enough ruckmen imo.
Nank, Soldo, Ryan, Colina, Miller and Nyuon, who is tall enough.
No point clogging up the list with another one that will take years to develop.
You can always pinch one from another club as well like we did with Nank, without paying for years of development.
Probably a key forward or back to be a project player if anything.
Or a mature aged player.

I don’t hate the idea of taking Jackson Callow in the rookie draft seeing as tho we will have 4 vacant spots (probably save one for mid season draft) I don’t think the position hawthorn had him playing suited him as he doesn’t have the height or leap to play 2nd ruck. He is an old school stay at home forward. Understand it’s a dying art but I’m more thinking it of an insurance policy if either Jack or Lynch have an injury or Jack just needs a rest at least we will have a big body to come in and play a specific role. Personally I don’t think Baur will be ready and is more of a Gunston type lead up forward from what I have seen.

With the delistings, we might end up using both late picks. Maybe take two u18 speculative KPFs? Maybe one KPF and the best available slider, and then take a mature age KPF in the rookie draft or as a train-on player.

Clubs don't seem to use the National Draft for over 18 yos at the moment. They seem to mostly come through the other drafts.

Once Pickett is upgraded we'll have five list spots open to take to the draft, which will most likely be 2/3 split between the national and rookie drafts. What do we think our positional needs are?

In order, I'd be going for:
1. Key forward
2. Medium defender
3. Key defender
4. Small utility
5. Small utility

The need for a key forward is obvious, and I think an extra tall lockdown key defender (hopefully Tylar Young) would be handy too for when Tarrant retires, especially if Miller stays in the ruck.

We don't really have any backup for Broad and Vlastuin. Our only mid size intercepting defender depth is Tom Brown, and he's no certainty to make it at this early stage.

The two multi-position small utilities for the last two picks are there because we've struck gold before picking this type of player late in the draft. It would be fantastic if we could find ourselves another Baker/Lambert/Short.

No point in getting a one dimensional spud because they fill a need.

The Hawks delisted him with a year left on his contract, no thanks.

Jovan Petric
State: Victoria Metro
State League Club: Western Jets
Community Club: Keilor
Date of Birth: 17/04/04; Height: 196kg; Weight: 87kg

You just know we are going to draft this kid
Joining the Croation mafia at punt Rd
He sounds exactly like the type of talls we love.

Tall forward who is strong overhead and mobile. Proved to be a good target for Victoria Metro and played all four games at this year’s Championships. Had an outstanding year for the Western Jets in the NAB League, kicking 26 goals in 15 matches. He also averaged 11 possessions and three marks per game. His time of 6:42 seconds for the 2km time at the Victorian 2022 NAB AFL State Draft Combine was impressive for a player of his size.

Keeler is rumoured to be sliding at a rapid rate due to very big question marks about his tank and endurance. On a quick deck he was exposed a couple of times. Also big question marks about his aggression at the ball.

Petric would be a great get. Not going to be a superstar by any means, but could very easily become your Brody Mihocek or Dan Mcstay type in time and the right development. Has footy smarts to go with a great size. speed also still a question mark.

I'm a big fan of Tom McCallum too, but I think he will bolt up the board a bit and won't make it to our picks.

SNAPSHOT: “An all-round athlete who can play above his height at either end of the ground, blending speed, endurance and aerial ability.”

As far as raw excitement goes, there a few draft prospects who catch the eye like Tom McCallum. The Tasmanian is one of the top talents out of the Apple Isle this year, having proven himself across 13 NAB League games and a full National Championships campaign with the Allies.

The athletic 192cm top-ager came into the Devils’ side last year as a forward, turning out six times for four goals and impressing with his aerial exploits. Given his side’s tall attacking options, he shifted to defence in 2022 and continued to shine with more of the same marking feats, as well as damaging rebound running.

Would love to find two gun talls that slide, if fact I know we will

Do we need two? ( Post Soldo staying )

The reality is if a tall lasts till a Richmond pick that chances of them ending up any good is low.

More so in the short - mid term. Which Richmond require with the list dynamics

It is a interesting scenario because at best Lynch would have another 5-6 years to go and probably less.

When JR pulls the pin we probably will trade for one if not beforehand and probably will be a compromise.

But with Cumbo, Dusty, Taranto, Bolton, MRJ do we need a high profile 2nd Key?? Bauer will get his chance at some stage

This might seem crazy but I have no issue ignoring the draft, and upgrading Picket. Miller and even Biggy if we have to for a year so we don't lessor types we are stuck with for two years using cap space. That way we have the capacity to target better types end of 2023

Keeler will not be there at our picks.
If he is, we've robbed the draft.

The hawks have 4 genuine rucks and 2 guys ahead of him in development. Lewis and kozi, they also have jeka who is a bit of a swingman at the moment. They had zero need for callow has dominated at times in the VFL and sanfl. He also has only had 1 pre season. I will back him into have a decent AFL career somewhere if he sticks at it.

What does 2 ND and 2rookies cost in salary cap each year?

Looking at some articles, maybe adjustment for the cap, each draftee maybe between 90 to 100 K

Rookie 85K to 95K but I read somewhere 80 K can be excluded from the cap for each rookie. Not sure how accurate that is.

So really we should be ingoring the draft, save 200K and get a few rookies

The draft team knew they wouldn't have low draft picks in 2022 so hopefully there are a couple 'hidden' :tonguewink: ;) gems somewhere that they have their eye on.

I have confidence in the recruiting team, I'll be happy whatever way they go.

What's the least amount of national draft spots we can take?

Given the presumed rookie elevations

3

But I think if you elevate 3 none.

So elevate Pickett, Miller, Biggy( not sure who all our rookies are)

then rookie a few.

The difference is Biggy would be contract ending 2023 if the continue him for a year as opposed to two years for a draftee. Even if put Biggy back on rookie list after 2023. Probably have to wait two year before can do that with draftee

The Hawks just traded in a ruck. The wouldn't have delisted him with a year left if he was any good.
