The Hawks just traded in a ruck. The wouldn't have delisted him with a year left if he was any good.
Yeah look all I said was I don’t hate the idea, he has limitations for sure I’m just concerned buy the lack of tall forward craft if Jack/Lynch or god forbid both went down with injury. I’m almost certain we will rookie a mature body and callow is the only one I can think of.

Haven't we got like 7 or 8 spots to fill?
We've got 5 spots to fill. Most likely we take 2 national draft and 2-3 rookies.

Technically it is possible for us to take as few as 0 in the national draft (with more rookie elevations in addition to Pickett), or as many as 4 (with 2 fewer players on the rookie list), but the above is the most likely outcome based on what we've done in previous years and the fact we traded two late picks in.

Of the players that have been mentioned:
Keeler - likely top 20
Brayden George - if he slides it will be into the 20s
Harry Lemmey & Harry Barnett - both likely ~pick 30 but anything outside top 20 can slide.

Tom Scully & Tom McCallum are a good chance of lasting until pick 50 or so.
All the rest should still be available at our picks.

Just because they are listed as ruckman at junior level doesn't mean they will be at AFL level, all kids who are 195+ have probably had stints in the ruck at junior level. If you look at KPF all are about 200cm or more now

Yeah, I'd guess 2 ND, 2 rookies and leave a spot for the mid-season draft. But I have NFI.

We'll upgrade Pickett, but I don't think we generally upgrade rookies unless we have to. I think Miller and Biggy can stay on the rookie list this year.

I don't hate the idea either.

Almost every KPF taken outside the first round of the National Draft gets less than 50 AFL games and cops stick on BF for their entire career. Poor bastards are on a hiding to nothing.

But them's the cards we have in our hand, so I wouldn't mind seeing us try something speculative.

Who gives a toss if they are on the main list or rookie list?? We are not St Vincents, if it saves us money upgrade them.

This is not the benevolent society. We are trying to win AFL premierships!!

Yeah, I don’t know what people think we are getting in the rookie draft in a supposed shallow draft. 1 year rookie deals are basically a free throw at the stumps. If we take 3-4 rookies it’s a huge win if even one of them make it long term.

Yeah but the cost of a rookie to salary cap is 85K less 80K is it not?

The cost of a draftee is 85-100K per year for two years.

So late draft picks means harder to trade for better players end of 2023 versus rookie where rookie cost 5k to salary cap in terms of available salary cap and positions on main list.

The other thing is Dimma will love the rookie concept because players as a rookie have to earn it to really make it and do not get gifted two years like a draftee

As it stands we have 33 senior listed, 4 rookies and 1 Cat B rookie making a total of 38 players.

This means we can add between 3-5 players to the senior list(minimum 36 maximum 38) and 3-5 rookies which can be made up of 2-4 rookies and another Cat B rookie.

Pickett likely takes one of those senior list spots, which means we could go with just the 2 picks and load up on 1 year rookies.

For mine I'd take best available KPF and then best available kid.

With the rookie draft take best 3 kids available and save a spot for the mid season draft just in case we need a mature aged player to come in and fill a role

Should we look at Harry Lemmey with a late pick considering we have no genuine KPF coming through?

Would love to pick up a developing tall, but it’s going to be slim pickings by the time we have our first pick

Really hope Jaxon Binns slips. Gut running mid, who was really impressive in the Country, Metro game a month ago. Think he’d add something missing from our list with Lamberts retirement

A tall
And a hard running inside/outside mid would be a nice mix

Do you guys think we should draft a KPF? I’m not too sure with the picks we have. They are too crap to get a decent one and we’ll spend too much time on him like RCD.

I might sound crazy but I’d rather roll the dice on a few small fwds to keep the small fwd depth going for a while as it’s key in our game style and they don’t take too much time to develop.

You saw what having Aarts and Castanga did. Yes we have MRJ, Clarke etc now but in case of injuries having more would be nice and you never know we could even find a bloke better than them.

Adelaide look like they are struggling to free up list spots

Had 38 senior players in 2022 which is the maximum allowed and have delisted 1 (Rowe), traded 1 (Frampton) and 1 has retired (Luke Brown). The other players they delisted are on their rookie list.

They also traded in Rankine which means have only 2 spots available on their senior list.

I suspect they will delist a contracted player, most likely to be Matt Crouch who they trying to flog off during the trade period.
May not have any list spots to match a bid on Keeler if that comes after pick 40 or they will have to use last pick to select him before the bid.
