There is the option of trading one of our 2023 picks for a 2nd rounder in 2022. Wright made wonders happen last year, so trust in him to be smart with this.
Free agency will deem he will want More than what he’s on which is 750ish. Especially seeing moores recent contract and what we pay grundy. Which is the problem with handing out big contacts, others will expect the same. He’s not even worth that. So unless he wants a significant pay cut no issues with him leaving. Long term think it’s best for the club. Geelong lost Kelly and freo have lost cerra without batting an eyelid.
I would have. Our players demanding long and expensive contracts needs to stop. It should have stopped with Moore. He isn't worth 6 years at a million per year. Long contracts are suicide for a club as we are starting to see with Grundy and now Moore. The changing of the game on almost a yearly basis adds risk to all long term contracts because the decision is made at the time and can't factor in what the future game looks likeOut of curiosity, would you have done the same with Moore?

The gap between 8 and 42 isn't pretty. Hopefully we can get something in between' whether thats trading in next years pick for this year. Or a trade that nets us a 2nd rounder.
If an offer came for elliot, I’d consider it.Who would you consider trading?
Free agent. We ain’t getting much, if anything for him unless a club comes in with at least 3 years at $500k+If an offer came for elliot, I’d consider it.
Both agree and disagree here. The best players in the game are the ones you listed above, but I don't think they have as much influence over a game style as may, McGovern, Hawkins, Andrews, rance, naughton. Without the safety of an elite defender or key forward, teams lack confidence to be as aggressive with their ball movement.I think that's where I disagree. I don't think any KPPs of the last decade are in the same ball park of influence as Dusty, Petracca, Bontempelli,Danger, Fyfe at their peak. Macgovern would be the closest in that he used to change the way teams entered forward 50 in order to avoid him, but that was more due to the novelty of his style, which has now been widely replicated, rather than being a type of influence that would be ongoing. I'm certainly not putting JDG in the same class as those mid/forwards. But I wouldn't put Moore in the same calibre as the very best KPPs either. They both could get there over the next 5 years. But unfortunately for both of them, it's a time period where we are unlikely to be seriously challenging.

Bro, we ain't finishing 13th. We will finish 14th or 15th. The teams below us except Norf and WC are all expecting good players back and will win more games than us in the second half of the season. I would prefer to finish 16th than 13thAssuming we finish 13th and get pick 6 but Ashcroft goes as F/S meaning we end up with pick 7, these are the names likely to be taken within the first 6 picks.
Clear-ish top 5 - we would need to finish bottom 4 to guarantee access to 1 of these 5:
- Ashcroft (Mid)
- Wardlaw (Inside Mid)
- Tsatas (outside Mid)
- Lemmey (Key Fwd)
- Busslinger (Key Back)
A bit of a gap to
- Scully (Key Fwd)
Then a raffle for the next 5 or so picks:
From my early analysis finishing 13th if Ashcroft nominates Brisbane is not a great scenario unless someone bobs up to enter the top 6 calculations.
Ideally we finish 14th or if we finish 13th we maybe look to split our pick and still nab a Jefferson/Cadman.

Do you think Degoey is worth 850? Never won a brownlow or come close, no Copelands, no all Australians? 850k is elite. He’s not elite. This is part of the problem of our current list. We are paying overs. Bont is worth 850. Degoey isn’t. We can’t pay Grundy, Moore and Degoey close to 3 mill and expect flags. 3 mill could get you petracca, Hawkins, and May with change to spare. That’s part of our issue.I can’t claim to know him well enough to gauge what free agency will do to his expectations so won’t bother. I think anything up to $850k is not unreasonable based on the rumoured salaries of some of his contemporaries. He’s behind Grundy and Moore in terms of how I’d rank them as players so I have no issue with him being the 3rd highest paid player at the club. I don’t buy into the wankfest about whether they’re worth it too much. Most of that discussion is just drivel from people who likely know what I know which is SFA.

Maybe a quick glance but not for his football abilityJack Raines worth a look at?

Do hope we finish a bit lower, without tanking, just for the future.

No dramas. I def don’t think Degoey is worth anywhere near 850k. That’s reserved for all Australian players IMO.At the risk of repeating myself, I’d be happy for JDG to get up to $850k.
With so many <50 gamers on the list I’d even look to front load as much of it as possible. I’d do the same for Grundy’s and Moore’s contracts in 2023 if they could be renegotiated to allow it.
At a minimum, we have to spend 95-105% of TPP, I trust Wrighty to work out how best to do that. Just think up to $850k of that spend for 2023 is reserved for JDG. Happy for you to think otherwise.

I’m simply pointing out he is far from an elite player. And IMO opinion 850k is for elites. Copelands, brownlow votes would all be low as well. We disagree, it’s fine. I just wouldn’t pay him that kind of money. He’s far to inconsistent and we can do better. What position is he competing for AA in? Midfielder? Historically plays forward with occasional midfield rotations. How does he compete with full time mids? As a forward? Is he competing with KPF’s or 3rd tall types? Does he rate against all the mids they stack up in the forward line and IC bench?
Last year Bont and Petracca had the HF spots. Took Miller, Darcy Parish, and Jack Steele had the IC spots.
