I don't know Jefferson at all, but where the comparison with McMahon falls down is that Liam hasn't actually been a good player at any level, whereas Jefferson was an AA under 18 player.

Let’s not get carried away with AA selections in the U18 comp. They give those out as token gestures. Let’s be serious.

He’ll get drafted. But I hope it’s not to us. Way too many deficiencies to have to hope he overcomes them and actually plays a game.

According to Cal Twomey he is but here's you saying he's not and we have others saying he's not Tom Hawkins (you don't say) which can mean only one thing, at 195 Matt Jeffereson isn't tall! It's starting to get embarrassing for some and in just over 3 weeks time the frauds will be exposed.

The only people that need to be questioned is any recruiters taking Jefferson as a fist pick. Or even in the top 20.

After the 30’s as a speculative pick it’s ok.

There are always going to be players that don't make it.

People were pointing out that Jefferson wouldn't make it because he is too light.
Being 76kg/78kg/84kg what ever Jefferson is isn't going to make or break him as a KPF.

It's going to be the same as every other player skill, attitute, luck, etc.

Well if you’ve got some pixie dust you can change him into GAJ and he can be a mid instead.

It’s the reason why the recruiters see this draft as shallow. Not really too many KPP. And he is considered one of the better ones. Which isn’t saying much.

In terms of the comparison to Harry Jones, it’s fine (ish) with me (I just don’t think Harry Jones is very good)

This circular conversation about Jefferson is a bit mind numbing though.

I don’t even know why it’s become a point of contention, given IMO he’s a 90%, or more, chance of being off the board prior to our pick.

Personally I’d rather talk about prospects likely to be available.

Let’s hope so. Let the others make that mistake.

Hayes 16
Best available 25
Barnett at 27

Hayes is a 10 year defender.

How often does a KPF slide in the draft and go on to be a star? Especially with a pick after the first round.

The best ones are always early picks and even they can be bust, I could think of maybe 4/5 in the last 10 years and I could argue the star part.

Don't tell carlthtruth that, apparently he's an expert. As I said, in any decent draft he would be a second rounder

Something about Hayes that worries me. Is it the red hair? The lack of size and strength? The ungainly running action ? His brothers injury history?

Happy if someone else takes him

If he was a KF, those things would concern me but he's a KD and very good one at that. Much better chance of smoothing out those wrinkles with a KD than a KF.

I agree, there’s a far higher chance that a key defender will dye/bleach their hair than a key forward.

There’s actually a few later picker key position players that have been performing well above some higher ones.

I’d love for us to have Nick Larkey (Pick 73) or Mitch Lewis (Pick 76) in our forward line.

I don’t think you can always rule those bigger guys out so early.

I really like him.

But watching a much shorter and lighter 17 year old Harley Reid easily out body him the other day in the goal square was a bit of a shock to the faith.

When he is back playing Eastern Footy League at 21 he can tell his team mates about the day the great Harley Reid cut him up

U18 AA selection means you were a good junior player. Nothing more or less. It means that he's played some good football and is not just going to be recruited on attributes, which was the case with Liam McMahon.

Hayes is good but needs to bulk up.

Reid is the Daicos of the 2023 class so it's not really fair to say one bad game is a reason not to draft him. He was playing against a very good player. Daicos did it all the time to players older than him.

It wasn’t a bad game by Hayes, it was just a singular WTF moment once Reid shifted forward. And nothing to be worried about.

I’m a massive Reid fan and made the Dusty comparison early on.

But even still someone with that height and size advantage shouldn’t be getting our bodied in a neutral contest like that.

Not many. They may not be stars, but Jack Darking, Mitch Lewis and Larkey aren’t too bad.
