The reason why GC should target WA talent. Goldcoast might be a more humid environment but anyone that likes the surf life in WA or lives close to the coast is going to love living at GC. It maybe the most far away place a WA player can go but it's got a similar vibe so they wont feel completely out of place.

I don't dispute that. What I'm saying is the Vic Country factor specifically is overblown.


It's a wonder that there are multiple of them requesting trades to WA every offseason, then.


That you're saying this shows why it was overblown, because there are numerous exceptions to the supposed concentration on Vic Country players.


Others too, like Noah Answerth, but I limited myself to high picks.


Cam Rayner was being discussed here in 2017 as a potential flight risk. The thing is, you can't be 100% sure who is a flight risk and who isn't. Josh Schache was definitely not thought of as a flight risk at the time, and ended up being one. Point is that it's not as simple as just drafting a whole heap of country boys.


Well that's for the Suns to decide based on feeling. A lot of people would have put money on Ben King leaving for Victoria at the first opportunity, but he re-signed. Some players can be talked around.

You can keep quoting me and go on and on about it if you like, but the fact is Brisbane completely changed their draft strategy and targeted mostly Vic country boys ahead of city where possible.

That's well known.

No one is suggesting that every player they have drafted is from country Victoria but a much, much higher percentage than what you would normally see drafted from that area.

It's worked very well for the club too.

And yes, of course it is up to GC based on feeling, which is exactly why most are expecting them not to draft Tsatas of he is available.

Its a smart move not to "back your system" if it's likely he's just going to ask for a trade in 2 years.

Absolutely. Doubt he gets through to pick 23 though. There are 4 or 5 players I think we will look at with that pick. Cowan, Ryan, Hustwaite, Konstanty and Gruzewski. Gruzewski will be there but I think they are hoping one of the others will be as well.

I think all but Konstanty (GWS) will be there however whoever you don't take will be snatched up by blues Hawks Pies and Saints.

The rumour on the Swans board is that we don't rate this years draft that much so it would not surprise me if one of our picks inside the top 20 would be available for the right offer.

It's not. Not only do we draft a disproportionate number of Vic country kids, we go heavy on the GWV Rebels kids.

The club has committed to redrafting Ryan Lester & Nakai Cockatoo in the rookie draft. We also have to upgrade James Madden to the senior list, so we'll probably draft him as the third player.

And we'll add Connor McKenna as a SSP signing.
