Adelaide will attempt to get back into the 1st round 2022 if a certain player slips to where they think they can swing a deal using 2023 draft collateral, they also have another later target if that player is taken. Will only take the one player though is what I'm hearing.
They're pretty keen on Keeler so wouldn't surprise me if they target the second round.

And another Ashcroft in 2024
Shh, don't tell them about the 8+ F/S the Dogs have coming through in the next 2-3 drafts, including some very potential top 10 players, and another Darcy... Milk the system man.

Phillipou? What sort of deal do you see them trying to facilitate? R1 for Fr1 ?

Last nomination to be done, a day before deadline.
I bet the Davey family wanted assurances and Bombers waited till last moment to work out their trade/ draft options.
They were negotiating extra years on the contract for Alwyn. We'd committed to them both when Jayden did his second ACL.

If he didn't have a brother, would Will nominate for FS and move to lions.

Would it not make sense to stay in Vic close to family. But with FS, he has more surety that his brother will get drafted to lions as well and they can play together.

He might've seen going to Brisbane as a good move for his football development, independent of his brother potentially being drafted there. Has the option of going to a potential top 4 side (not usually an option for a top 2-3 pick), potentially getting some finals experience early in his career and learning from someone like Lachie Neale.

I felt like the Davey nomination was delayed for long for same reason, they wanted assurance the other Davey would also get picked up by Bombers.
Yes he wanted to play for the club he’s father played for having Levi there with him is just the sugar on top

I dont get the love for Bailey Humphrey, his kicking is that sloppy I wouldnt have him in the top 20. He is high production, but apart from his one on one marking nearly everything he does skill wise is ordinary.

The other is Jefferson, in any other year where there were other reasonable tall forwards he would be a late draft/rookie option. He plays very much like the ex Carlton player Glen Manton and will take years to get an AFL suitable build IMO.

I saw him kick couple of goals in NAB league final. He had good service incoming but still marked well. Wonder why you are so down on Jefferson. lets hope he slides to Hawks pick in 20's then :)

I don't get it around Humprhies questionable disposal, and next to no tank

Hey, we’re fine with that.

When…

VIC kids stop telling clubs they don’t want to leave Melbourne/Geelong.

It’s a national competition. If they’re not prepared to move interstate, don’t sign the consent form.

Rookie contracts are extended to 4 years, and clubs have the right to extend contracts out to 8 years.

Kids stay for the full length of their contract.

Clubs have to declare all third party

I'm fine with that.

When...

NSW & Qld kids are treated the same way as kids from all the other states.

GWS and GCS getting an academy is understandable, and there is a sound argument for Brisbane as well. But Sydney? FFS, what a rort of the system.

The reality is that the AFL have broken the integrity of the draft, everything is now fair game.

And another Ashcroft in 2024
It gets worse next year with Gold Coast having three and Brisbane two players from their Academies highly likely to require early bids. That's why Gold Coast traded in a staggering 9 future draft selections for the 2023 draft. In case anyone's unaware all the non football state teams (teams outside of SA, Victoria and WA) can't select and bid match Academy players while the teams from the traditional states can't even select academy players until after pick 40. It's an absolute joke.

Remembering that both Ashcroft and Fletcher are available as father/son picks, Brisbane have only had one top 20 academy selection (Eric Hipwood at pick 14). Even Fremantle has had a higher academy selection than that.

The point people are making is that the system is broken and it now looks ridiculous. The problem with the Academy system now is that there is a disincentive to develop players to maximise their development before entering the draft. In my opinion teams should have use a selection with a minimum 1st pick for points having to be used or they can't bid and they should have to be used for a player. So a top 5 selected player should require a top 18 pick as part of the points matching and a second round pick should require a pick being used in the third round. A top 15 pick should require a second rounder as part of the pick matching. A second round pick should require a pick being used in the third round. Not a ton of later picks and I think the mass trading of future picks now looks absurd to anyone who's a casual fan of the game.

Who are the two highly touted Lions academy kids in next year's draft?

Sydney and GWS have kids who should be higher rated that any of the Lions kids.

We (Lions) have maybe one mid to late draft academy kid in next year's draft, and possibly a rookie draft prospect. Another two or three academy kids might be draft prospects in the 2024 draft, along with Levi Ashcroft. The 2025 draft might be a different story, depending on how the kids go over the next 2 and a bit years. Somewhere between 3 and 6 draft prospects.

But if you want to really get your knickers twisted. Do a little research on how many father son kids there might be in the 2024 draft.

Just in the SA 2023 squad, but for the 2024 draft. Father-son prospects Tyler Welsh (Adelaide), Lucas Camporeale (Carlton), Rome Burgoyne and Louie Montgomery (Port Adelaide).

In the Suns academy, father-son prospects for the 2024 draft, Joey Kennedy (Brisbane), Kalani White (Melbourne).

As well as Vics, Kynan Brown (Melbourne), Will McCabe (Hawthorn), Charlie Naish (Richmond).

I think there might be a couple of footscray father-son kids as well. I think Max Darcy (brother of Sam) is 2024 draft.

No idea about who's out in WA.

Let me help you out here. Humphrey has some elite AFL traits that are very rare. He hits the contest like a battering ram and has breakaway power exiting the stoppage. His contested marking is elite and gets multiple scoring opportunities every game. He will do the same against men. His kicking will improve in a full time system.

The two Brisbane Academy players I'm referring to are Billy Richardson and Bradley McDonald. They played in the NAB AFL Futures game on grand final day.
Here is the scouting report from the game for the Lions players if you haven't seen it.
Bradley McDonald.
Playing largely in the defensive half, the Lions Academy tall was another one of Team Houli’s intercepting threats. McDonald was strong in the air all game, out marking opponents well even when he wasn’t in a great position to do so. The only downside to McDonald’s game was his ball use at times, occasionally turning it over despite limited pressure, however with a year left until he’s draft eligible, there’s plenty of promising early signs.

Billy Richardson
One of the over-agers at this year’s Under 16 National Championships, Richardson was utilised behind the ball for Team Murphy and looked relatively comfortable there. Happy to possess the ball for as long as possible, he found himself under immense pressure at times but looked to work his way out with long kicks down the line. He was perhaps more efficient than expansive in those instances.

Hawthorn told Dylan Moore they'd take him with their first pick (45) in 2017 if available. We didn't, because we didn't expect James Worpel to still be undrafted. At pick 67 we finally took Moore. It must have been a nervous wait for him, considering he was a huge Hawks fan as a kid too.
Jeezus what a pick

Jeezus what a pick
I remember watching that draft and kingy had Moore rated 12 I was fingers crossed and screaming at the tv at pick 66 as it was the dons and the FML thoughts were going through my head that they would take him just before our pick. Luckily in true bombers fashion they took some other Jerk, Margaret thatchers son to be sure!

Watch that game and you'll realise there's nothing to worry about unless they improve dramatically

This will pretty much be the case if they get rid of the bullshit discount. These teams are already getting a player ahead of their pick, why do they get to pay unders as well ffs.

Kicking often doesnt improve in a full time system.
