If that was with the crows, apparently it was not allowed because we originally owned the pick we were trying to get, if that makes sense
Pretty sure it was like the 3rd or 2nd last pick of the second round.

If you traded it directly to the crows during the trade period, then that is against AFL trade and draft rules.

Genuinely surprised that Melbourne would make that mistake, with how well their draft department appears to be run.

Yeah weird mistake for them to make but definitely the reason

Don’t mind the out of the square thinking re Geelong pick . Everyone presumes Clark but might not happen

Phillipou I can see going to Essendon or hawks at 5 or 7 … if not then I think saints
I don't think Geelong can take another midfielder this offseason without jeopardising their developments. Bruhn and Bowes will have to work hard to get consistent opportunities as it is - do they really want to draft another? Their tall defensive depth is paper thin. I think they draft Busslinger and take him down the same route of development as SDK

Even there tall forwards seem a bit of an issue

If they lose Ratugolea, Hawkins is how old next year?, S.Neale id say if he doesnt get games both WA sides but more so West Coast will be chasing a tall forward who can chop out in the ruck end 2023

Would not surprise me at all if Geelong take Jefferson to replace the ageing Hawkins. All the Clark rumours could be a ruse to throw everyone off the scent

It's an embarrassment of riches. Even if Hawkins retires, simply having Cameron puts them in a better position than most clubs. They could draft a project tall late if they wanted to, but I reckon they'd already be planning to recruit from another club

So he's confident?

Yeh wont surprise me if thats the avenue they go. Theyre ok if they can keep one of Ratugolea or Neale but would probably be wanting to try and draft another as we know key forwards take plenty of time even the best ones

Agree, i had Geelong taking Jefferson just from a list need. Busslinger would suit aswell

They might be happy with Parfitt, Holmes, Bruhn, Knevitt as the younger midfield brigade for now

We all know that the best key forwards mostly come from the top end of the draft

A bit might depend on how confident they are in Neale and/or Ratugolea staying post this year

There is no mock draft showing Mackenzie going in the top 6 and he doesn't seem to be rated highly enough to warrant a pick exchange like your suggestion. It also seems like Geelong and West Coast would be highly unlikely to select him according to all the draft reports. West Coast seems to have targeted their pick 8 (that will be taken at 9) for Gibney and Geelong look more likely to draft Busslinger due to their need for a young key defender or Clark who is a hometown boy. If St Kilda did rate him due to their inside knowledge they would be way better off dealing with Gold Coast and trading pick 9 and a future second rounder (perhaps with pick 47 in the 2023 draft thrown in for pick 5 and a future third or fourth rounder coming back as Gold Coast have a ton of 3rd and 4th rounders they traded in this year to match points for 3 GC Academy players but were seeking more second rounders or they'll have massive issues with creating so many list spots before the draft.

If GC doesn't see a player they rate as being a likely star who feels a list need then I wouldn't rule out Essendon trading their future first in exchange for the Gold Coast pick 5 and a future 3rd rounder. Essendon then use pick 22 for a future second and a later 2022 pick to give them enough trade capital for teams requiring points for bid matching to get back in 2023 first round as well.
Gee, I hope we would be prepared to select Mackenzie over Gibney at pick 8.
