It didn't work for Carlton or Melbourne if you miss Harley Reid there will be someone else next year's top 5 looks good
Anybody who gets a pick in the top five next year will be getting a player that would be better than Ashcroft this year but that’s the point about Harley Reid he is a step above all them. Nick Daicos is the only player that I consider equal to Harley Reid at the same age but I think Harley Reid has the edge

Yes but we have a "generational player" every couple of years. Has Rowell fixed Gold Coast, what about JHF, I mean the way he was talked about this time last year you would assume his sweat tasted of chocolate
I get your point but Rowell and JHF Are not as good as this kid but your point is very valid and I could be wrong

That gets said about all previous "generational talents" when the next one hops along.

Harley Reid is currently the best player in the draft crop for next year. That might change. It might not. People often go OTT with stuff like this.

Yeah what you say makes sense and could very well happened and you press the case and Hawks were winning I’ll jump on board the Hawks train and hope we climbed the ladder but at this point I feel where going to finish near the bottom so why not lose a couple of those 50-50 games and get the best talent available to be honest I think teams like North Melbourne weren’t too disappointed to lose at the end of the year and get the number one pick it happens nearly every year with the teams near the bottom

I love the Hawks but knowing the strength of 2023 is the only time I would ever consider accidentally losing on purpose to hopefully then take a step forward in 2024 with the absolute star in Harley Reid. Hopefully the risk of winning the wooden spoon will be worth it for the club
I could see next years pick 1 get swapped for multiple picks in the same draft and/or future picks. Next years draft bats deep so if a club can get 2 or 3 guns by trading the #1 pick that could see a team content faster than expected.

Good point about his size. He is a strong kid. I preferred it when Subiaco played him as a mid in the first half of the season. I think that's his best position and in an AFL program I reckon he will get stronger.

Maybe a rookie spot still looms. Man, he would be a good pick up for a club. A steal really.

If not, Subiaco have a league WAFL star......although he is still eligible for colts in 2023, I hope they get him into seniors.
Agreed Futbolista, he’s a very contested player, something we need.

After seeing your interest in him during the year and watching his clips on Streamer, I’m also surprised as to why he wasn’t on WA’s radar?

I remember when Bryce Gibbs was the best junior of all time guaranteed star. Then there was Jaeger O'Meara. Then JHF. There's so many highly touted kids who are the absolute next biggest thing ever who just don't get there.

Oh, but this kid is The One!

Tank away Hawks, no one will be upset. Tanking barely worked when you got two picks for it. Doing it for one is lulz

Pinch of salt and all that, but I’ve heard the Dogs are super keen on Michalanney and are prepared to bid as high as pick 11 (12 after Ashcroft) for him. I assume the Crows will still match, despite a small 2023 deficit.
I don't think the Crows match at 11.

That will really impact their first round pick in 2023 - could be a close to 300pt deduction.

That being said, they probably have a F3 for later points trade with someone up their sleeve if this did happen.

So did young Reid …

I remember when Nick Riewoldt was, and he turned out pretty good.

Gibbs’ draft was probably the most hyped draft outside of 2018 and 3 of the top 4 were extremely average players.
Gibbs was probably Harley Reid’s age atm when he was drafted. Came top 3 in his clubs BnF in the SANFL and had a game where he had mid 30 touches and kicked 6 goals.
In saying that 2018 does look to be living upto the hype

Outside the top 10-15.. 2018 is bust..

Even in that top, the jury is still out.. most of them seem just above avg player with couple elite.

It was a joke.

* me.

Perth is a shithole.
Err, what?

Melbourne is a shit hole. Don't get me wrong, I actually really like Melbourne, having grown up in Tassie and making many trips there, as well as living on the Peninsula from 205-2018 however I must address a number of glossed-over issues that the locals conveniently forget when comparing Melbourne to other Australian capital cities:

The amount of filthy, homeless crack addicts that infest Melbourne, plus the beggars(who are better dressed than me) asking for money every 5 minutes, as well as the skyrocketing rent and property prices, terrible weather, ridiculously spread out nightlife and finally (and this is the deal-breaker right here) inability to freely fondle a stripper's breasts, definitively lower the livability of the city, in my humble opinion.

Alright it's now gotten beyond a funny gag, there's been enough warnings to keep things to draft rumours in here, next time you feel compelled to discuss what pick trades may be fair or whether Hawthorn/ St Kilda will remain shit in 2023, find an appropriate thread for it or forfeit your right to post in here

Additionally, "Mods clean this up" isn't all that helpful, I don't spend my days trawling every thread here, if there's something that needs mod attention report it, or it may just get missed

A touch over a week now until the draft. More solid rumors, and everyones phantom drafts should start flowing in across the week. Aside from the top 4, the rest of the draft is a bit less predictable this year compared to most years, so many different directions it could go. Dogs sit on the edge of the top 10 to 12. Rumors of which player may slide to us changes every single week.

Jaeger O'Meara was a superstar as a junior his knee cap issues stopped him becoming the player
he could of become i.e all time great
Before those knee caps issues his pace was super super elite.
His pace was breath taking and he used it like Chriss Judd to burn opponents of
