I was adamant on him until a few weeks ago, but think Allen is first choice. All these smokes and mirrors re Clark and Tsatas. We are usually pretty tight lipped at Geelong. Allen isn’t even invited to draft night (yet!)… remind you of the last time this happened?

Cockatoo was a very different scenario..he wasnt our first choice but we told the afl the day of the draft to fly him up as we got wind our first choice was going just before our pick. At this stage theres nothing solid linking us to allan and given the flight risk with him and the other talent likely to be on the board at our pick id be surprised if we took him.

Not saying, it needs to be done just how it can be.

Possible under rules but little chance in reality. I dont see us doing that given the other options available at our pick.

The Gold Coast recruiting team travelled to Dunsborough to visit the Ginbeys. That’s 11 hours flying plus 6 hours driving (Dunsborough’s 3 hours from Perth). Add to that the time waiting for flights and you get close to a day. It seems pretty clear to me that Ginbey’s off to Gold Coast.

Just googled it. Premise is trading 3 straight first round picks for pick 1 in the NFL draft. Seems a bit unrealistic at least for the AFL

They'd just take Clark, Mackenzie or some other highly rated player.

It's odd that some people can't wrap their heads around the fact that WC are happy to draft non WA players.

We traded down because we were worried about the Top 5's (Wardlaw, Sheezel, Tsatas) go home factor. Beyond that's a more friendly pool.

We traded down because we were worried about the Top 5's (Wardlaw, Sheezel, Tsatas) go home factor. Beyond that's a more friendly pool.

Those kids spoken publicly about being open to go to wa? Broad statement to suggest the kids in the 8-12 range are any less likely of a risk than the first couple. The 4 WA boys are clearly high on the priority list hence the trading down the order

I think the go home factor probably came into it with Wardlaw, Tsatas & Sheezel, who would be the obvious go-to for pick 2. Lot of pressure on this pick for W/C. Would have been our first top 5 pick since Gaff in 2010. I can understand why we chose not to take that risk.

Given the perceived even-ness of the pack in the 5-15 range it then made sense to try and get 2 of those. At this point where our list is at, adding 2 first rounders makes sense.

We have though, shown ourselves to pick what we perceive to be best available regardless of state with our first picks.

Our last 3 first rounders had strong WA candidates which we overlooked:

Chesser over Johnson last year;
Brander over Allen in 2017 (who we then did get to pick up in the second round, unexpectedly)
Venables over Powell Pepper in 2016

If Allen, Ginbey and Busslinger do go, it will just leave another very good draftee to pick up. We won’t worry too much.

I will be personally upset if Hewett isn’t one of our picks though.

The early guys were all metro, the 8-12 bracket could have some or all of country kids like Humphrey, Clark and Hollands available.

I don't think they'd particularly care if all four went before our 1st, it'd mean some really good talent fell into our lap.

That's worth the effort.

why not? Still better than 1 pick; particularly if they don't intend to choose Clark.
They may find another Mitchell Lewis at 58. Or package it up with a number of other picks.

We cant trade our future 1st and 58 is our only other pick-pointless.
If hawks take clark we will simply take one of mckenzie/tsatas/humphrey.

Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why we’re hearing that they’re looking closely at Mackenzie. We’ve tried to move up the order once already, so they may be bluffing to get us to trade up to their pick.
