Well based on the “rumours”

Our first pick is 100% going on a midfielder.

Our second and third looks like going on an Athletic tall and a developing ruck (Keeler)

Our last pick is looking like being a bolter or someone who has been banging the door down in the system like Phillips or Gallagher.
We desperately need a tall forward/ruckman in the Keeler mould, plus another versatile key position tall. Perhaps at that stage list needs take preference?

If another highly rated mid slides through to our 2nd pick eg Burgiel, Toce` & Gallagher are going to have a difficult decision to make.

Phoenix Foster looks good as a Forward/Ruck & later pick. Nick Sadler as a small mid. looks good also.

Great - will stop us overspending on a tall "prospect". We already have Marshall filling the main spot with Campbell and Heath as back ups. Not sure we should be spending a second rounder on another ruck/forward.

There seems to be enough tall "prospects" about to find one at Pick 47 or rookie and use 9, 28 and 32 on other more pressing needs.

Whether its Keeler, Barnett, Lemmey, Northam, Scully, Bradtke - someone will slide.

Heath has had more wraps than Allison ever has and in less time. He's had some very handy VFL games, especially early in the season, dominated a game or two, which Allison has never done.

There's been enough to give some excitement, considering he's a mid-season, long term project.
Phoenix Foster

Max Heaths best game was 16 disposals, 3 goals and 28 hitouts. Fair performance for an 19 yo ruck in the VFL. Tired towards the end but I'm certain he will get a run this year.

As for Allison - still think he will surprise a few this year.
I heard you say that last year and the year before. At the moment Allison barely looks VFL quality let alone AFL.

As for Max Heath, it's one game against an average opponent.

I think he's a decent prospect but to think he's close to AFL footy after one game while totally ignoring the rest of his season is crazy talk.

He's still got a fair way to go before he is afl quality.

Good list management is not throwing your eggs in the basket of players that haven't shown to be AFL quality.

If we are making decisions about not bringing in players because they play the same position as those types, we may well find ourselves in a lot of trouble in a couple of years time.

Then all of a sudden we are trying to get more stop gap players into the club like we have over the last 5 years.

And that one big game was against the other young ruck, who was picked up in the PSD? can't recall his name, who actually had a much more consistent & better season.
Allison kicked a 70 metre bomb goal, in his last game for Sandy. Lets hope he can become the Gunston, he's been compared to. ???

That would be disappointing. We took 3 mids last year. We've got a potential mid training with us. We don't need to bring in 4 more through the draft.

There are other positions that need should be adding too, such as a small forward and some tall depth.

I agree , and i think a lot of the more likely mids will go early in the draft.
There are some more prospective talls later in the draft.

Unfortunately it's this one he's been compared to ......

Don’t be too hasty writing off Allison..maybe make a judgment call at the end of next season!
I remember having reservations about BJ early doors and look how he turned out!!

Fingers crossed he makes it, but we'd be mad to make any list decisions around him.

Goddard was a long way ahead of Allison. It's really not a great comparison.

He made his debut at 17 and had played over 30 games by the time his 2md year was done

In the end it will mostly depend on the best available at our picks, but fingers crossed we land a mid with our first.

After that if we can get a key forward, key defender and a small forward I'd he rapt.
Aren’t the players projected at our pick all mids?

Busslinger the only one not.

There have been some draft watchers who think we might grab Jefferson , but its not likely IMO.

Hypothetical.

1: Cadman
2: Ashcroft
3: Sheezel
4: Tsartis
5: Wardlow
6: Humphrey
7: Clark
8: Phillipou
9: Mackenzie
10: ??????

That leaves us with a mid who is a step down on the others ( Hollands ) , or to take tall defender Busslinger.

We are kind of reliant on West Coast taking Ginbey or Busslinger.

One of The Suns or the Eagles are taking Gibney though.

Read today, that the Saints have had a chat with draftee Sam Gilbey from WA. Dashing med. sized Half Back who takes a good grab, kicks well & from the footage I saw, loves to tackle. Had a very injury interrupted year.

Injury prone AND a back flanker? Yep, sounds like us.

Gold Coast supposedly keen on Ginbey!

We’re going to need run and carry out of defence with potentially Sinclair getting a lot more midfield time & Hill moving to the wing.
Sinclair won an Australian jersey from half back, I wouldn’t move him from a role he is now elite in, plus he has not proved he can play the midfield role really well.. e.g. with his size 180 and not a pure extractor, can he actually win the ball inside against Cripps, Fyfe of the world, I think not.

Instead, would try to get improvements from a better midfield structure and organic growth from players like Bytel, Winghager, Owens, Brynes, also Stoker if he gets a spot.

I actually think we move Jones to his natural position at half back or play a hybrid role, with him and Sinclair, we got enough run I would think. It also solves the problem that jones is not a consistent mid because that’s not his natural position for example, not clean with the ball in close..

Or he could be an All Australian midfielder
Reckon I know where Sincs wants to play

Yep another one to add to the list of possibilities. Stats wise not a lot worse than Keeler. More goals, less possessions.

But he's a bit like Oscar Adams in that he hadn't fully been part of an elite program yet came on in leaps and bounds once he got a chance.
