Sounds like Suns and Humphrey is a big chance. That will be heart in mouth stuff with WC’s pick

Yes I am a little worried. I reckon GC will take Humphreys over Ginbey.

So unless WC with their first pick take Ginbey or Busslinger we will miss a quality mid by one pick.

And I doubt WC would go Busslinger with their first pick.

Is Ginbey not a mid?

Picks:
9, 28, 32, 47

Ablett says: “Ross The Boss” is back. Expect improvement out of the Saints. The addition of Zaine Cordy gives them some much-needed assistance in their key defensive stocks. Now it is time to find some leg speed and midfield class that can also hit the scoreboard.

Draft Prediction: Elijah Hewett could be the answer. He is an exceptionally well-balanced midfield-forward who is a natural finisher. Having experienced senior football at Swan Districts in the WAFL, Hewett is ready to play. Coby Burgiel would also suit. His blistering speed and ability to kick multiple goals is attractive.

So west coast traded back from 2 all the way to 8 where the 3 WA prospects are expected to start being called out and you think they will pass on Ginbey if available- even though he has been touted to go as high as the suns for a month?

There is 0% chance they go outside of Ginbey/Busslinger/Allen at 8 (9).

One of Tsatas/Phillipou/Cmac will be available at our pick.

And that’s probably how they are rated aswell.

Phillipou has even taken the go home factor off the table. But will require the most patience. Biggest ceiling, lowest floor potential of the 3.

They passed on Johnson at 18 last year was was touted as a top ten prospect to go for a Victorian kid.

I've got my fingers crossed they go local but history suggests that's not always the case.

If they take best available with their first there will still be a local kid there with their second and third picks

Well, going by Cal T they traded down to double up not necessarily just for WA talent. Seems odd. But he has mentioned previously they rate Phil and CMac.

Seems a bit strange to me that WC would trade out of pick 2 then not go local. If they wanted the best talent available wouldn’t they have just kept pick 2? Of course it’d be our luck to miss out on a top mid by 1 pick.

Little different.

Johnson fell to the start of the second round.

So there was obviously something we don’t know there.

We are talking a clubs first Pick taking the best players of their choosing from their home state.

No go home issues.
Nice little sell to the members for trading down etc

Anyone able to access the Herald Sun article about Essendon trading pick 4?

I think crows might be trying to get it for Phillipou?

AFL Draft news: Essendon open to live trade to shuffle down order

Essendon will secure three junior Indigenous stars on draft night, and could land a much bigger bounty if it plays its cards right. Here’s the inside word.

Essendon is open to a draft night trade that would push the Bombers down the draft order while still securing their No.1 midfield target, but it would take a compelling offer.
The Bombers are determined to nail a draft night strategy that could see them nailing a powerful midfielder like Mattaes Phillipou to round out their onball unit as well as selecting a trio of exciting Indigenous talents.
They have picks 4, 22, 54, 68 and 72, and ideally would use the early pick and selection 22 before a club lodges a bid on father-son prospect Alwyn Davey Jr.
Clubs are likely to consider Davey from the late teens onwards, and Essendon will surely match that bid, but would love to secure a bonus player at pick 22 before his name is called.
But before that they will have a decision on the No.4 pick – set to drift to pick 5 after Will Ashcroft’s father-son selection at Brisbane.
Essendon is interested in Phillipou, an exciting 190cm, 89kg Woodville West Torrens mid-forward equally adept in the centre square or pushing into attack with his strong overhead marking.
But if they believed they could secure him with a pick later in the top 10 it could allow them to secure a second selection – likely in next year’s draft – as the price for easing down the top 10.
St Kilda is one club at pick 10 who has ambitions for a higher draft selection.

Essendon football boss Josh Mahoney said all options were still on the table as the Dons work through a range of scenarios ahead of next week’s national draft.

“There have been a lot of discussions (with other clubs) before the pick swap period ended on November 15. But being able to trade live on the night, there are some scenarios that have been thrown our way from clubs, and that’s an important part of what we do.
“We plan well and maximise this period for us and if there is an opportunity with a deal that benefits us we will certainly look at it, but we are excited by the player we are going to get at that end of the draft as well.

“It’s important we maximise the talent when we have access to the high end of the draft. We will be looking to do that and it’s an important next days to continue our planning around what draft night looks like.”
Davey’s brother Jayden will be a later selection or even fall through to the rookie draft, while fellow Indigenous talent Anthony Munkara looks a high-upside forward from West Adelaide who the Dons can secure as an academy talent if he drifts outside the draft’s top 40 picks.

Where does he go? A very interesting one to track. Essendon has done its work on him but most likely would be if the Bombers moved back from No.4. St Kilda has also been looking at Hewett, while Carlton and West Coast could be a chance. Greater Western Sydney would likely consider if available in the teens and he could get through to deeper into the first round.”

What do you think is the risk v reward on Elijah Hewett? Could he cause trouble or be a flight risk?
I think he's a flight risk for sure, as for causing trouble it's an unknown really, he may have matured recently. It's only anecdotal and I don't claim to be some miracle worker in figuring this stuff out, but when I interviewed him he was really well spoken and level headed, but I'm also media so it may have been put on.

What I do know is that he's got a fantastic game on field, few limitations when he's up and about as a player and if clubs can get him to find some consistency he's going to be one of the best from the class. Ultimately the draft is about weighing up what risks you're willing to take, whether that's on someone with elite traits but not much craft, someone deemed a flight risk, or someone that may need some maturing/ mentoring, and to me Hewett is a worthwhile risk pretty high up, his game v VIC Metro this year and the second U17's clash v SA last year are him at his best and it's Petracca like

Pick 18 which was there pick wasn't far from the 2nd round though?

I doubt their members are too fussed about where they come from to be honest as long as they are good.

West Coast have rarely had issues with go home factor. They are a big, strong club that have a good track record with holding onto players.

Honestly Hewett looks like being one of the best from the draft. But a significant risk. Could be Dusty Martin though. I wouldn’t mind us taking the risk.

It will be a future 1st not a 2nd

I'd imagine, but wewould have to give up more than a future 2nd to jump that far up the order.

We offered a future 2nd last year to move from 11 to 9 and it got knocked back
I would vomit to burn currency doing a future first.

A second makes sense if no one else is offering anything that keeps them in the top 10 for Phillipou

Their not doing it for a future 2nd and going back 6 spots this year
I would spew if we done a deal like that
