From PMBBangers on the draft board

I think he's a flight risk for sure, as for causing trouble it's an unknown really, he may have matured recently. It's only anecdotal and I don't claim to be some miracle worker in figuring this stuff out, but when I interviewed him he was really well spoken and level headed, but I'm also media so it may have been put on.

What I do know is that he's got a fantastic game on field, few limitations when he's up and about as a player and if clubs can get him to find some consistency he's going to be one of the best from the class. Ultimately the draft is about weighing up what risks you're willing to take, whether that's on someone with elite traits but not much craft, someone deemed a flight risk, or someone that may need some maturing/ mentoring, and to me Hewett is a worthwhile risk pretty high up, his game v VIC Metro this year and the second U17's clash v SA last year are him at his best and it's Petracca like

I would vomit to burn currency doing a future first.

A second makes sense if no one else is offering anything that keeps them in the top 10 for Phillipou
I reckon it's close to zero chance of happening for a second rounder.

Firstly, it's a massive risk for them to think that he will make it all the way to 10 .

Looking back on past trades that would be the a long way off what other clubs have had to give up to move that far.

I'd say it would have to be our future first with 22 coming to us as well.

I think we may as well just stay where we are.

Look the conversation is based off that article.

It make sense on the basis that Essendon can grab a top 30 second rounder next year in a deep draft (supposedly) by trading down to our pick and grabbing the player they would arguably be taking at 4 (5) anyway.

no other club can put them in position to take Phillipou aside from us.

It seems he is our second choice behind Tsatas. Which means Phillipou would be gone if available at our pick - so rules out Carlton/Dogs/Swans etc.

Out of Tsatas, Philipou and Mckenzie, Tsatas just does not look clean with his disposal, not sure we should trade up to grab him.

Is Ginbey not a mid?

He is a mid, but he is not as good as the others. WC only pick him if they are worried about the "go home" risk of the others. That means they accept a quality hit up front. W, and they did. That ill they do that though?

Remember when the Saints gambled that WC would not take Judd, but they did? That gamble arguably cost us a flag or two.

I wouldnt be giving up a future 2nd to move up a few spots in this years draft, unless it was for a garuanteed Dustin Martin or similiar.

How many years have we traded out our future 2nd round picks and what has it brought us? You are nearly as likely to get a 100-150 game player in the 2nd round as you are from picks 11-20.

Its time to stop this short term thinking, get our recruiting right and value each draft pick like they are gold.

It makes more sense to have academies up north. Those states need the clubs to run programs to attract talent to the AFL. It makes much more sense than giving Essendon the Tiwi Islands where they are a traditional footy area and the club is doing FA to develop footy there.

I don't mind having access to academy kids in Melbourne but probably players developed locally and from strict background parameters. The area they need to crack down on is trading out your picks to use points is a blight on the FS as well. You should have to take your first round pick out. The Dogs got to take Treloar for free and got a pick one from one draft hand. It's double dipping and makes an uneven playing field.
Same with the Lions this year, arguably the pick of the trade crop, two first round F/S's and they wont have a first round pick to match them.

Ridiculous.

There was still year 12 exams being completed last week.
Probably argue having the draft before the exams would be better mentally for the kids.

Its been a stupidly long and drawn out trade/FA/Draft period which i get is all for the media cycle but now we drag it out even more with the draft over 2 nights.

Its stupid.

I like both but Tsatas doesn't look an outstandingly better player than Phillipou. Not enough to trade up for. I like Ashcroft, Cadman, Wardlaw and Sheezel at the top picks but then it kind of evens out in that next pool, Tsatas looks like he's the least enticing of the top order guys. Humphrey, Clark, Phillipou, MacKenzie, Hollands etc, look pretty even.

I'd be using our picks as they fall unless an absolute shock slider occurs.

He's been highly rated all year. He's a bit of a big body bull type and looks like he could be an instant impact type. He's not super exciting but he looks good. To me he doesn't look out of place in the top 10 but a bit boring.

So we swap 10 for their pick 4
And the player they want goes at pick 8
Big risk for a future 2nd round in the mid to late 20s
Well based on the links, only Essendon,us and the Doggies have had genuine links to him.

Hawthorn have had strong links to Humphrey/McKenzie/Tsatas

Geelong will go Clark

Suns will go Humphrey or Gibney

Eagles Gibney or Allen

It doesn’t seem like a crazy risk.

I reckon if we are trading with Essendon we will steal the pou. We are pretty keen on him. Imagine the melt if that happens
How did you come to that conclusion?

We wanted pick 3 for 9 + Clark.

We obviously rate some pretty highly in that initial lot.

Phillipou has only really risen In the last 6 weeks
