Ginbey wont get past WC pick and Clark wont get past Geelongs pick. Top 4 look locked.

Tsatas can slide but would be surprising if he slid to 10.

We will get one of these four guys in most likely order.

1. Phillipou
2. Cam MacKenzie
3. Humphrey
4. Tsatas

Busslinger a smoky.

I think we are in a good spot. All we can do is wait and see what falls to us. Unless Gallagher and co have eyes set on someone else like a Hotton, Allan etc if Phillipou is left but they have doubts on him.
It has been mentioned on here before that we like Oliver Hollands.

If this is the case, I can see us trading our F1 on draft night to Carlton, Dogs or Melbourne for the pick and drafting Hollands.

Around the 11-12-13 mark, clubs will trade for our future first hoping we slide next year. I don't mind it, very Melbournesque. Just hope we know what we are doing, but have heard good things about Hollands.

Clubs wouldn't do that, they would want something thrown in such as our pick 28 to even consider the move and even that might not be enough. They're not going to just swap the future first for pick 11 that would be totally pointless.

Nah, reckon it was explained enough earlier that it's not as much as you think. It just needs to be a win win for both teams, but it wouldn't surprise me to see any of the three clubs raised part ways. Carlton have been quite vocal about being open to moving picks (I think they are least likely), Dogs have such a well balanced side already and may bank on a better pick in a good draft next year, and Melbourne have shown they are incredibly progressive when it comes to pick swaps, particularly first rounders.

Teams will be expecting us to rise not fall there is just no way a club would swap 10-13 for a future pick that will likely be the same in a years time.

Politely disagree. No one rates our list and I think most expect us to go backwards a little with new coaches and game plans etc. I'm expecting us to be right around the same mark honestly, but hopefully with more consistent efforts and way less blowouts.

Yep the rationale would be a shot at a top 6 or 8 pick in an apparent better draft. Whether they do it or not. Whether we should be doing that if we’re only getting pick 12 is another thing.

Like i said, "Except for Academy and F/S shenanigans" There will be less of it now. The 2020 trade was with Brisbane. Brisbane got their future pick as well as their Academy player ( with later picks ).

Exactly the same last year , with the Bulldogs happy to mover their pick back for overall points gain.

North 2019. They crazy. They could have had Caleb Serong in 2019, instead they have Tom Powell and Harrison Jones.

It doesn't depend how Sydney see their list as much as whether they have F/S to bid on. But who knows they might have a crazy moment Norf style.
You can call North crazy or whatever but that was the deal

And we are talking about 14 or 17, not 8

Sydney would be crazy not to trade 17 for a future first IMO, just as we'd be crazy to do that deal

Doubt we'd even contemplate it, but if they asked for a 2nd on top then that's laughable

I'd flat out melt if that happened...

Exactly. Until we see the draw/FIXture there is no way clubs would be betting on us going backwards, forwards, sideways.

If we get a more even spread across the season (ie not easy then hard), with better double ups and better coaching I'd be wary as an opposition list manager on figuring out where we will finish.

Heck none of us that watch very closely could hand on heart pick it.

Carlton really like Hollands, if we don’t take him at our first pick they will

A few media people have been making noise about our list, I'm sure it's rated differently in the AFL world. My point is that trading a pick from 10-13 now on the risk you MIGHT get up to 8 or so next year is a huge risk and I doubt it's one anyone would take.

How does this work, can picks be exchanged at any time or draft week?

Have faith in our footy department now as opposed to a couple of years ago when it was all about trading in moneyball players from other clubs.

There has been a big emphasise on the draft from the club but we need picks, unlike other clubs like Geelong (pick 7) we do not get gifted high picks.

I actually think we are a bit better than that but 100% agree on external perceptions of our list. We finished around the same mark as Carlton who on paper look better in most ways. They have lots of players who now look like stars and a pile of players who haven't played to expectations yet but still have it in them.

We don't have many stars and have been playing such a dull brand of footy for a decade that no-one even notices that we exist. I don't think we look any worse than the Tigers did before they rose to the triple crown side that they became. Just tweaking the forward line could have a huge jump.

In short I 100% think that externally we would be expected to step sideways or backwards after a quiet trade period and not much of suite of draft picks to work with. I Don't think it's necessarily an excuse though. We should expect to improve.

So, are we drafting players with "go home factor" again?

If we are playing attractive footy with some momentum it's a lot easier to keep players engaged. If we've sorted out the off field stuff perhaps we can actually sell the vision instead of being a stepping stone.

You can live trade on the night so if the player you wanted gets taken the pick before, you can change tack and swap that pick out for a later pick where your next best player is sitting or if everything that you thought was good is off the table trade the pick out for a future one.
