Because they were totally unfair and made a mockery of the draft system.
Apart from that they were fine.
True, so then why do some clubs still have unrestricted access to academy players while others don't? Big reason why I'm losing interest in the AFL is the utter imbalance that seems to get worse every season (Academies, playing some teams twice, poor sharing of free to air/prime time games, players nominating clubs to be traded to, salary dumps etc)

Always thought there was something in a name .... and a name like Henry Hustwaite doesn't really do it for me

I mean The Hust is not as cool as The Bont or The Trac

CMac works as does the The Pou and the The Bear (as in Humphrey) .... throw in The Cheese (Sheezel) and Buttlicker also

Tsatas doesn't oil my pistons nor does Cadman or Ashcroft as names

Phoenix Foster has some coolness about it but maybe too cool for its own good ....like Blaine Boekhorst or Dillon Viojo Rainbow or Khan Haretuku or Giovanni Mountain-Silbery

Marcus Windhager though ..... *ing A .... enough nerdness with the first name to soften the insane coolness of the surname

Also names like George are a bit meh .... buyer beware
But he's still only the second coolest Phoenix in the AFL after Phoenix Spicer

Still want McKenzie first but really can’t go wrong with either of them.

Maybe we can get Ginbey, Gilbey , and Gillbee. ( Is there a Gibney too, or was that a typo I read somewhere )?

Failing that , i think, Clark, Clarke , Mackenzie , and Hayes would complement our existing list.

An insider from the West Coast board (seems to have worked with their draft team before) believeswe will take whichever of Mckenzie or Phillipou is there at our pick. Would be happy with either. If both are gone, he said our preference would be Busslinger.

Seems pretty likely.

One of the great AFL names. Wylie Buzza, Zephania Skinner and Llane Spaanderman might let him join their gang.
What about this 90's Richmond line up, Daffy, Chaffey, Blurton and Plapp.

Unbeatable.

Can’t wait. Heart says McKenzie but that just be because he is our nga. The pou has just about the highest ceiling in the draft and could be the next bont. They move exactly the same. Imagine if we missed another bont lol. We would melt

SAINTS MAY USE FOUR PICKS

While a number of clubs only have – or are only planning to use – two picks in this year’s draft, other sides are considering making up to four selections.

St Kilda is one club which could come away with a more sizeable draft haul than most, given it holds picks 9, 28, 32 and 47.

Even if the Saints use all four selections, they would still be left with two open list spots to use during the pre-season supplementary selection period or next year’s mid-season draft.

While there are question marks over the depth of this year’s draft, some clubs believe there could still be players they like available in the 40s.

The Saints have been linked to their Next Generation Academy prospect Cameron Mackenzie at pick 9 and are also believed to have some interest in West Australian key defender Jedd Busslinger.

A player like explosive Gippsland Power midfielder-forward Bailey Humphrey would also be a nice fit for St Kilda.

However, Humphrey is expected to already be off the board by pick 9, given he has some strong interest from Hawthorn (pick 6).

The Saints were thrilled with their draft haul last year and believe another good draft could help set them up for success under new coach Ross Lyon.

If we could get either of them, we will have done well.

List managers do NOT gamble on where other teams are going to finish.
Add to that , they value a pick this year higher than the equivalent pick next year.

If you got to have Garry Ablett Jr this year or next year , you prefer him this year.
Adelaide gave up pick 19 in a deal that saw them swap their future first with Carltons future first

If that isn't gambling on where other teams finish I'm not sure what is

They are still the rare ones. Not many have the balls to do it and those kind of screw ups make it less likely next time.
