Can’t wait. Heart says McKenzie but that just be because he is our nga. The pou has just about the highest ceiling in the draft and could be the next bont. They move exactly the same. Imagine if we missed another bont lol. We would melt
We always have to take the local kid when its 50/50. Plus McKenzie has been apart of our NGA and Sandringham, he would fit in seamlessly. If its Phillipou that gets through I will be just as happy!

Busslinger is a great intercept defender, but not a real need, I would rather go with OIliver Hollands.

They are still the rare ones. Not many have the balls to do it and those kind of screw ups make it less likely next time.
It wasn't a screw up for Adelaide though?

So if anything wouldn't that deal encourage clubs to trade away current picks and gamble on where clubs finish the next year, not the other way around

I'd say Busslinger would definitely be a need.

Right now the only genuine key defender we have is Dougal Howard and he's no world beater. After that we've got a few third tall types.

I'd love a quality mid with our pick but if all the best are gone I'd prefer we just take the best player rather than reaching slightly for someone just because they play midfield.

We did use our first 3 picks on 3 different types of midfielders last year also

Sorry I didn't read it properly. Yeah, the ones that clubs do well from are still pretty rare. Might make other weary about trading in though. Not many do it because it's a massive risk still. Perhaps it was payback for rooting Adelaide on the Brice Gibbs trade.

All the more reason why it would just us much us saying no to a swap of picks than another club.

IMO any club with a pick from 14 onwards would jump at the opportunity to swap for our future first.

But we'd be silly to do that

Beyond that, I don't see why a club would trade a pick just after ours as it's around that range where we'd be expected to finish this year.

What about my boy Oscar - was coming along nicely until his back injury.

Showed some good traits but he's a long way off AFL footy and I'd hardly be pinning my hopes on him becoming our next number one defender.

If he makes it is see it as more of a bonus than anything.

Busslinger looks a genuinely safe pick as a 200 game key defender

An insider from the West Coast board (seems to have worked with their draft team before) believeswe will take whichever of Mckenzie or Phillipou is there at our pick. Would be happy with either. If both are gone, he said our preference would be Busslinger.
I’m very happy with this scenario. I think we can assume that if Ginby or Busslinger are taken before our first pick, it unlocks one of Mckenzie or Phillipou being available. If neither Ginby or Busslinger go top 9, then Mckenzie & Phillipou are off the board, & we take Busslinger. Makes perfect sense.

FMD. Want. campaigner looks like peak James Gwilt in the 05 qualifying final.

Exactly how I'd like to see this all go.
Tsatas can't slide that far surely and Humphrey's kicking :/

If you watch Busslinger he is really quiet poor as a one on one defender even against the kids his age. Imagine what he is going to be like at AFL level until he gains 10-15kgs of muscle.

Its one thing being a good sag off interceptor, its another being able to defend and beat your opponent when you are isolated.

I would much rather go with a midfielder with our 1st and look at Van Es, Phillips or similiar later in the draft.

I'm really not too fussed about him being too skinny for AFL level next year. Happy to play the long game with a genuine key defender.

None of those mids outside the top couple of tiers really excite me.

I wonder if they do take him if there is truth to tsatis sliding to us. Would be nice
Doubt it.

An article stating WC might take Allan at 8 because the Dogs are looking at him before their next pick. Ginbey seems to be linked to GC because there doesn’t appear to be the go home factor.

Could play out like this.

1. Ashcroft - Bris
2. Cadman - GWS
3. Wardlaw - North
4. Sheezel - North
5. Phillipou - Ess
6. Ginbey - GC
7. Tsatis - Haw
8. Clark - Gee
9. Allan - WC
10. Mckenzie/Humphries - STK

WYD?

I'd take Mckenzie over Humphrey. Better kick and has the speed our midfield needs.

Wouldn't be unhappy with Humphrey though.

Campaigner also reckons he's the best player in the draft.

Sigma male type vibes, get him in now

The Bozz on Twitter (Collingwood bloke who seems to get good mail) has tweeted that he has heard Hawthorn are all over Jhye Clark.
Heard a few rumours Geelong are interested in Busslinger.

Hopefully that is the case and Mackenzie or Poo make it to us as it seems the WC are keen on both

Interesting comments from Mofra's phantom.
I'm growing less hopeful of landing Cmac each day but even with Buzz sliding we get a good player which is reassuring.
If we lose out on Cmac I'm pretty ambivalent TBH. I'd like to get Keeler and improve later picks so possible trades with the Swans, Giants and West Coast.

Pick 8 - Geelong - Cam MacKenzie
The Saints finally develop a gun mid who gets drafted inside the top 10. Unfortunately the saints don’t get him because the football gods are utter bastards when it comes to St Kilda. Geelong seem to do well with footballers named Cam.

Pick 10 - St Kilda - Mattaes Phillipou
Slips as he “interviews poorly” which is a stupid reason for a kid to fall down the order. You’re drafting footballers, not Ray Martin. His dad played for the Bulldogs and with all their father son success over the years, the Saints find a way to game the system and finally nail a first rounder.

Pick 22 - GWS - Jedd Busslinger
Slides in my view because he was a spectator as Jefferson kicked 7 in the Vic M vs WA game. Kicks the ball well but double-grabs marks too often for my liking. Positioning is excellent though.
