A couple of years ago or so they showed Sydneys back six. Every player was from the rookie list. They continue to follow the same winning formula by picking up Paddy Mac.

They then scour the cash converter second hand store for a ruck (no first rounders) or use a late pick.

So this means they use their draft picks on mids who filter out to the wings and forwards who don't quite cut in the guts while also actively drafting key forwards. Swans players from old to new recruits are known for being hard at it. They don't draft soft players.

He looks good at Colts level but you'd want to watch him against those good forwards like Cadman and Jefferson to get a better idea. I still hate taking KPBs with first round picks. We really need a big stopper and guys like Phillips from the VFL could do that.

Saw him as a junior at Carrum Downs - absolute stand out, no idea how that translates to AFL though.

Phillips would get destroyed in AFL. I'd like him to replace Irish though.

Might be worth a look at pick 27 but given the club has copped an absolute canning in this forum for selecting a tall "prospect" @ Pick 26, perhaps its best to give him a miss.

I reckon he's unlikely to get to our 2nd but our draft hand won't look the same as it does now come draft night.

Maybe we get the Roos 2nd or maybe we are the lucky ones to get Brisbanes first rounder

An early draft bolter this year, Mackenzie’s NAB League club Sandringham Dragons did not know where he sat at the start of pre-season. But by June, the ball-winning midfielder was widely considered to be a first-round prospect in this year’s draft. Mackenzie started the year by playing some strong football with both the Dragons and Brighton Grammar, before dominating a Vic Metro trial game in early June. He logged 32 disposals, eight clearances and kicked a goal in that match to be firmly on the radar of AFL recruiters. Mackenzie has gone on to produce an eye-catching under-18 national championships campaign with Vic Metro, including the side’s second match against Western Australia when he logged 28 disposals, five clearances and a goal. Part of St Kilda’s Next Generation Academy because his father was born in South Africa, Mackenzie has great speed and composure, while also being a neat disposer of the ball.

A powerful midfielder-forward, Humphrey has excited recruiters despite missing a significant chunk of football this year. He is a real competitor who attacks the ball ferociously, has seriously quick breakaway speed from stoppages and is a neat kick on both feet. When playing forward, he is a strong mark in the contest and is dangerous around goals. Humphrey suffered a meniscus tear in his knee in May, which meant he missed Vic Country’s first three games of the under-18 national championships. However, he made a stunning return to the field for Gippsland Power in the NAB League in Round 14, logging 31 disposals (14 contested), 12 marks, 14 score involvements and four goals and kicked another four goals in the final home-and-away round.

and there are some similarities between the pair’s games. Sheezel had played as an inside midfielder throughout his junior football days, before being thrown forward during an interleague match in under-15s and showing his ability to impact in attack. Recruiters describe Sheezel as a “freak”, with his forward craft and ability to crumb packs or win ground ball’s and make something out of nothing. He can also have a serious impact through the midfield and racked up 37 disposals and six clearances for the Dragons in Round 9 in an onball role. Sheezel has the ability to read the cues ahead of others with his footy smarts and is an athletic beast who finished ninth in the Yo Yo with a 21.7 result at pre-season NAB League testing in March. The AFL Academy member represented Australia’s under-18s team against Collingwood’s VFL side in May and has since been a consistent performer for Vic Metro in the under-18 national championships.

A medium midfielder with elite ball-winning ability and line-breaking speed, Tsatas started the NAB League season on fire as he averaged 32 disposals across the opening four rounds for the Chargers. However, a persistent foot injury which required rehabilitation after the Australian under 18s match in May saw him miss Vic Metro’s first three games of the national championships and the majority of the season for the Chargers. The injury lay-off isn’t expected to affect where Tsatas sits in this year’s draft, though, given he was a standout player for Vic Metro at under-17s level last year and has been earmarked as a likely top-five pick ever since. Tsatas comes from an athletics background and has competed at national level in the 400m and 100m hurdles events, meaning it was little surprise when he finished equal-ninth in the running vertical jump at the NAB League testing day in March. Tsatas is also book smart and aims to follow in the footsteps of his older brother and study law at university. He trained with Collingwood in January and has kept in contact with former Chargers graduate Nick Daicos, while he models his game on GWS midfielder Josh Kelly.

A tall intercepting defender, Hayes hit some red-hot form at the right time of year during the national championships. A finger injury on the eve of Round 1 meant he had a slow start to the NAB League season, but AFL clubs had kept a close eye on him over the past two years and were excited by what they saw when Hayes lined up for Vic Metro. The younger brother of Port Adelaide ruckman Sam Hayes, he was particularly impressive against Western Australia in Vic Metro’s second game, when he logged 19 disposals, five marks, eight rebound 50s and six intercepts. Hayes has good endurance, is a strong mark above his head and reads the ball well.
