Freo let Crowden and Joel Western go. Western was a really quick indigenous kid who plays mid and small forward. Maybe not bad top ups. Western looked good in highlights.

A member of Fremantle's Next Generation Academy, Western represented Western Australia at the U16 Championships in 2018, and since then, has had two impressive seasons for Claremont at WAFL colts level. No player at colts level over the past two years has had more contested possessions, ground ball gets and inside 50s than Western and he has also had the second most disposals, score involvements and running bounces in those seasons. His regular good form was recognised when he won Claremont's Most Consistent Award in 2020. Western was also a major contributor in Claremont's premiership-winning season in 2019; he recorded 23 disposals, 15 contested possessions, four clearances and six tackles in the grand final. Having played primarily as a midfielder over the last two years, Western is equally effective as a small forward where he can utilise his lightning speed, clean hands, defensive pressure and goal sense. The 18-year-old didn't test at the 2020 WA Combine, but his 2.73 seconds 20m time in February 2019 would be quicker than the all-time national combine record, set in 2010.

From SA….my opinion given the footy I’ve watched here. If we are worried about Philippou we should also be taking D’Aloia with our 2nd pick, same team and will help settle in. AD is great leader and strong inside mid! Reminds me a lot of Jack Graham

I don't think his highlight reel in that video is a true indication on his midfield ability. Two of his strengths a seen to be his contested work and clean hands. He showed that in a couple of his early champs games

Reminds me of Milne or Caleb Daniel where he's quite strong overhead for a little guy.

He is my favourite player in the draft, I have been praying he is still around at our 2nd round picks and we have the guts to grab him.

He has everything you want in a midfielder except the size, and I think he is more a midfielder than a forward. Honestly I really don't know how much his size will limit him, he has the speed, agility and clean hands to overcome some of that and he is tenacious, he doesn't shirk the body contact and will throw himself into a tackle full bodied. He has played senior footy in the WAFL this year (Reserves I think) where he performed pretty well. He hits the scoreboard as a forward and despite his height he is an aerial threat he has a big leap and great judgement in the air. His kicking is good and he looks to kick to advantage every time, often kicks low and direct hitting up the leading player.

He looks like an U12 player with his twig like physique and the helmet but I think he has real talent, he IMO is a potential diamond in this draft.

Some will have a big red line through him just because of his size and that might end up being the right call it is a definite risk and he might well be another homesick candidate. He may have to become a small forward only or wing at AFL and that would limit his potential as so much of his talent is in the contest winning the ball and doing something creative either with his speed or with his vision and hands to exit the contest.

I love the kid, just seems like one of those kids who has been proving the doubters wrong every step of the way. Also love the helmet time we had another Burkey or Narkle makes them easy to spot on the field.

Others moved passed him (Keeler, Scully) but if he finds the form of his bottom age year id but happy taking a punt on him, could be worth a look at our 4th pick if still available

If I’m being honest all the South Australian prospects seem to have slid. Kobe’s size may be a concern for some clubs I assume.

I don't know, last year he was getting hyped. A few SA boys have had less than spectacular seasons and have drifted right out. Lemmy, Munkara, D'Aloia, Ryan, Keeler etc all drifting from really high to hardly mentioned.

I said it before but concerned about his ability to move through and in and out of stoppages. He kind of just stands there and shrugs people off.
