I like to watch the games myself, I tend to treat what many others say as fan fiction. I know he’s had injury problems but honestly the highlights show what I saw. He was underwhelming, missed targets but hand and was sloppy by foot and didn’t display great decision making etc. If people are worried about humphrey’s disposal this kid would give you nightmares. If he was the ducks nuts he wouldn’t slide to us it’s that simple. Mckenzie on the other hand has been nothing but impressive on just about every occasion I’ve seen him.

Anyway there will be a bloody good player available at our pick and if we could grab Carlton’s then you can make that two really good players. I’m less keen on trading next years 1st for anything much later and I’m not really interested in moving up, Imo it’s just not worth it.

I still think there will be a few surprises, Allan to WC must be a huge chance, who will GC go with and you can throw Essendon into the mix as well.
Well that’s not true.

That article that all this conversation is based on is very clear that Essendon think Philipou has a massive ceiling (potential)

Suns/Hawks/Cats all wedded to the players they were taking prior to anyone slipping and West coast taking the WA bolter.

It is potentially set up for us to be kissed on the dick here.

Let’s just wait and see what the phantoms are like closer to the draft and who actually gets called. I’m not sure that anyone is really a lock at this stage other than Ashcroft and cadman. We were always going to get a very good player at our pick, the question is do we like anyone enough to trade next years 1st and can we find a club willing to do it.

If a top talent fell.

It’s hard to argue not taking him and being Hawthorn/Geelong who are wedded to other kids.

If he is as good as advertised on the outside. There should be plenty of scope as an inside mid.

Gives me Sam Walsh vibes.

disposal is bad... doesnt seem to like close traffic and when he does have space he doesn't have an elite kick.

So why does most the country rate him as a top 5 pick if he is so poor in so many key areas?

If next years draft IS THAT GOOD.

No one is going to trade out.

So as we get closer and those phantoms start dropping - we are looking likely having 2 of Tsatas/Cmac/Philipou/Humphrey/Busslinger drop our way.

You have to trade in at this point.

Turned it over almost every time he had the ball in that compilation haha geez

Had a couple of nice kicks, the rest were elementary kicks that anyone should make and everything else was handballs. Not the best package of what he can do IMO.

He has good disposal, I agree that vic metro game he played was a tad sloppy by his standards and most people judging him off that one highlights game but the games prior to his injury he was elite. We would snaffle him in a heart beat if he fell to us.

That fox footy article implies both would be available at our pick with Phillipou going 5 and Humphrey to the Hawks.

So potentially you could convince Carlton to trade firsts and land both.
And if they’d bite at that, I’d take it. No question.

Tsatas is a top prospect, but McKenzie’s disposal is cleaner. That’s what sways it for me.

It will be interesting that’s for sure, we could come out of this draft very happy. Two mids is my preference especially if one is Humphrey, this kid has got something special about him he looks to be the difference maker in this draft.

What’s an easier fix?

A player who turns the ball over a lot?

Or

Asking a player to get the ball more?

For me, the game will slow down for a player who gets the ball 25+ times a game. That will help with ball use.

A lot harder to get a player to work significantly harder and be smarter with running patterns to get the ball enough to be an elite mid.

The guy who turns it over a lot gets to practise a lot more. Then again, Dunstan seemed to struggle.

Much harder for the other guy... " i had 15 almost possessions today ".

I'd be rapt if we got the "funny ol fella " but i think he'll be gone.

That's exactly how I would describe Tsatas to be honest. Seem to will himself to every contest and more often than not ends up with the footy

He reminds me of a Dangerfield type. Competitive, works hard, finds heaps of the footy. He can be messy with his disposal but he's got break away speed at a stoppage.
Not sure he is a contested beast like Danger. I was thinking Bailey Smith minus the goal kicking.

That's fine, we all have differing opinions

Just stating that yours seems to be in the minority and different to most draft watchers

That does not mean you are wrong of course

I agree he can look sloppy but so can Dangerfield. He also has a lot going for him. He's a ball magnet with a great burst of speed

McKenzie looks polished but also has has weaker points. He doesnt find near the footy Tsatas does and he struggles to win the footy on the spread which is a bit of a concern.

On your point about him sliding to us meaning he must not be that great, well I highly doubt it happens. Seems like a dream to me, but his go home factor is going to rule at least two clubs out ahead of us.

And can't you say the same about McKenzie? If he was the ducks nuts he also wouldn't end up that far down?

Essendon have been chasing mids for so long that they have a lack of tall timber. I'd be going for a tall if I was them. Busslinger would be a good get as a gun KPB. They've struggled for a good tall back since Michael Hurley broke down.

STRENGTHS:
  • Speed
  • Agility
  • Vision
  • Clean Hands
  • Consistency
  • Production

IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Strength
  • Defensive pressure
DRAFT RANGE: 1-5
SUMMARY:
Despite missing three months of football in an important period, Tsatas remains a big chance to be one of the first selected in this years draft. Standing at 186cm and possessing elite speed and a good leap, coupled with his natural football ability and production, it is hard to ignore Tsatas in the top 5 picks in this years draft. There is also some upside with Tsatas as he is the least readymade out of the top mids and with an interrupted year who knows how much better he could have gone.

Wardlaw should be pick three for sure. Ashcroft, Cadman and Wardlaw should be locks. I reckon Wardy looks like he could be the best player in the draft. It might be the smartest thing North have ever done getting hold of 3 and 4. Could end up with 2 guns.

Most of those "turn overs" were due to his target either being pushed in the back or failing to compete for the ball. The only real question is the lack of any difficult shots being attempted/executed.

From PMBangers on the draft board, asked about McKenzie and Philppou

I anticipate it'll be one of those two availability permitting, I feel as if St Kilda's pick is right at the end range of where a lot of the players you'd assume they'd like, you can make a case for any of Humphrey, MacKenzie, Phillipou, etc. and can't really see them going for a Hollands or Hewett type who would probably be a couple in Carlton's sights, or at least in that range.
That's if you guys don't trade up of course, I imagine Tsatas and Wardlaw would be two that the Saints would have their mind on if they managed to get a trade done for a top 5 pick
