It would just be nice to have some F/S in the next couple of years. Good ones.
When does Boston Everitt come through? Anyone keeping tabs on him?

Edit:

“Fifteen-year-old Boston is considered an emerging star with AFL clubs already earmarking the son of Spida as a potential high draft pick. He is currently training with the Under 16s Suns Academy on the Gold Coast and playing at Southport Sharks on a club level”

Was part of our NGA this year, I assume he’s a father son as well if he nominates.

I hope he nominated us. I know his dad wants him to. We will melt if he goes to the suns

2024 draft for Boston. Played at the Under-16 championships and did alright. Didn't get all-australian but still 2 years of development left as well befire the draft.

Clubs wouldn't do that, they would want something thrown in such as our pick 28 to even consider the move and even that might not be enough. They're not going to just swap the future first for pick 11 that would be totally pointless.
Not really.
Could be worthwhile to them if they are very keen on a certain two players and the trade could let them land both.
Or maybe they have a fs coming the next year so don't mind getting rid of their future first for one in the current draft

I actually think we are a bit better than that but 100% agree on external perceptions of our list. We finished around the same mark as Carlton who on paper look better in most ways. They have lots of players who now look like stars and a pile of players who haven't played to expectations yet but still have it in them.

We don't have many stars and have been playing such a dull brand of footy for a decade that no-one even notices that we exist. I don't think we look any worse than the Tigers did before they rose to the triple crown side that they became. Just tweaking the forward line could have a huge jump.

In short I 100% think that externally we would be expected to step sideways or backwards after a quiet trade period and not much of suite of draft picks to work with. I Don't think it's necessarily an excuse though. We should expect to improve.
I recently went back and looked at what the media was saying about the tigers after 2016 season and trade period and it's so similar to what they say about us at the moment.
Just goes to show how much the media know about list quality.
It only takes one season of the team playing well and suddenly the players that weren't up to it the year before are stars.

Teams will be expecting us to rise not fall there is just no way a club would swap 10-13 for a future pick that will likely be the same in a years time.

Why?

New coaches and gameplan in,. So lots of disruption.

We prioritised youth last draft, and again in this draft. So we are redjigging our list.

Also most teams above us have brought in some good established players.

ie Look at the Tigers.

Doggies weakness was their tall backs, and they now have a good tall back.

They now have so many tall forwards they cannot fit them in. They lost some midfield depth, but they have ample anyway. Only thing holding the Dogs back is their coaches poor gameplan.

I think a few of our guys are tarred with being shit for playing in a boring side with no hype. Sincs, Crouch and Steele all had great seasons and Gresh when he was on the park too. Snags looked ready to break out and King had half of a brilliant season. There is talent there, Battle, Wilkie, Ross, solo Marshall all showed a heap too. Dmac was flying until injury as well. Still half a dozen guys that have performed in the past that didn't meet expectation too. Billings, Jones, Coff and Clark etc all have form in the past and could be big injections of quality along with some good young talent.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Ross can do with us next year.

Yes agreed. Feeds into what I have been saying since after the bye, the players have the ability but are mentally weak and Ratten and his team could not instill the requisite belief into the team once they had a confidence sapping loss. It just spiralled downhill.
This is where Lyon will be much better. He will get buyin from the players and even if things aren't going well they will believe in the system.
I remember R1 2009 down 1.1 to 5.4 thinking here we go. Apparently the players got to the huddled and were excited and pumped even being 27 points down. They believed in the system in place. Proceeded to kick 11 more goals and held Sydney to just 4 more for the rest of the game.

Lyon installs that belief and we will be finalists.

Hang on, so you’re saying that when players aren’t playing well then everyone thinks they’re not very good, and then when they play better everyone thinks they’re not so bad? What a revelation.

I think because the side is seen as uninspiring that even the better ones are considered meh as well.

Carlton have a perception of momentum and stats wise they haven't achieved more than our guys but because they are a big club who improved everyone talks them up. Cripps and Walsh are considered guns but Steele, Crouch and Sincs are hardly noticed.

Carlton have the perception of momentum because you can see their upside. They have a super deep midfield with match winners, two Coleman medalists up forward and one of the best key defenders in the game. I would kill for their core.

Their core id fine..its outside their core that they have problems. Their bottom 6 are very ordinary

They aren't much ahead of us. They have a very good top end but then a solid depth core but are still missing few pieces.

Their top end is miles ahead of ours which is all that really matters in the end. Cripps, Walsh, Curnow, McKay and Weitering is lightyears ahead of our core and then there’s Kennedy, Cerra and Hewett as midfield depth that we can’t get near. I agree with better coaching we can close the gap a bit but that’s a young core that’s going places.

He literally just showed they arent lightyears ahead but you just ignored it.

The only area that was a poor comparison was Curnow vs Higgins but also highlights our biggest issue in not getting enough out of our forward line. The rest have very even amounts of impact on a game.

Curnow is miles ahead of anything we've got but go back through the stats including fantasy scores, not much in any of it. Probably similar to us really but have higher profiles due to the big club factor. Cripps probably has the bigger game impact occasionally but Steele is super consistent.

Cerra is a GOP, Gresham has him covered. Hewett is a soldier like DMac, he's not a star. Kennedy started this year on track to be a gun but fell away hard Ross probably had a better season than him over all. Even when you look at Hill and Zac Williams are similar in their disappointments.

Stats are nice but they don’t tell the full story. Steele is a star but Cripps is on a different level because he’s one of the best contested ball winners in the comp and kicks way more goals. Crouch vs Walsh is not a comparison IMO, Walsh almost won a brownlow in his third season whereas if Crouch has 30 possessions you wouldn’t even know it. Adelaide literally let him go for nothing that would never happen with Walsh. Then they’ve basically got two Max King’s and one of the best key defenders in the comp, to me they’re miles ahead on talent.

Unfortunately Gresham doesn’t have anybody covered sitting on the sidelines every year, he just never plays anymore. Kennedy had similar stats to Steele this year and Hewett averaged more contested possessions than him. Then they have a former top 2 pick who can’t get a look in the middle yet because of that midfield quality and depth. And they’re all younger than guys like Ross and Crouch, I just think they’re in a much better position than us long term right now.

Guess we'll see. I think if we get all our players on the park we line up very similarly. A second high scoring forward is probably where we have less but if Snags played like his first quarter of the season we aren't even far off there. Having too few players doing the bulk of the scoring is actually less than ideal for both of us though.
