Leftfield option: Jaspa Fletcher. Balanced midfielder, averaged 23 disposals, part of the Lions Academy (F/S). His old man also played some footy at the Saints. Expected to go around pick 20 and the Lions are already scrambling to have enough points for Ashcroft. Good chance if we pulled the trigger at pick 10 the Lions wouldn't match.

Also worth noting.

Cmac won’t be a mid in his first few years. He will be a HFF/wing etc.

So realistically anyone we draft won’t be a huge difference in the guts.

But it might mean someone else moving in there who can 👀

Sinclair? It will be interesting to see what we do with him. He could be a powerhouse in the guts but he's also valuable across half back.

Yeah - I think the immediate move will be Sinclair. Rory Laird style.

Easier to bring talent through at Half back + Coffield returning.

You could make the same argument about Philapoo, Hollands, heck anyone outside the top 4/5

His family still live in Brisbane, his old man coaches a local club up there. So the go home factor would be too much IMO.

Agree that was Rattens biggest error last season IMO. When our mids were getting slaughtered out of the middle he didnt use different players eg Sinclair through there.

Rattens inability to think outside the square on match day was ridiculous for an experienced coach.

He would be sensational and plays with that in your face attitude our side needs. Although I think we might have to move up the order to get him?

There are bound to be some around his quality still there.

Konstantky, Keeler, George, Allen, Clarke, Jones, Szybowski, Burgiel.

Johnson went another 7ish picks behind Chesser though.

We are talking about Busslinger who will go before their next pick and arguably could be taken the very next pick - as he fills a role we ******* suck at.
Many considered Johnson to be the biggest slider in the draft though

Some had him going as high as 10

No idea where Busslinger will go. Twomey has him ranked at 14. The thing is though, in terms of needs a key defender wouldn't be the number one priority for West Coast. They are desperate for young mids more than anything.

I'm not disagreeing that we need to find elite mids. But that doesn't mean you pick a mid just for the sake of it. Realistically, the top end mids will all be gone before our pick. I would love McKenzie but he's 50/50 to be available. Hollands is the next rung down and will probably be there for us. Or do we pick a guy like Phillipou who isn't a mid but we hope can transition to the midfield (see Billings).
Phillipou is a mid. That is where he has played the majority of the year.

Very different to Billing who was a genuine half forward

Quite possibly. Played as a high productive third tall in his underage year. Hasn’t had a lot of exposure this year due to injury. Looks like he can take a contested mark at least. Often described as a Nat Fyfe type - he started as a medium forward.

Averaging 33 disposals over 4 games in the SAFL? That's not medium forward/ 3rd tall stuff.

I wasn’t aware of those stats. I’m going off the draft central thingy.

Those stats are from the state championships, where he played injured some of the tournament. He's also effectively playing as an under-ager with such a late birthday which makes some of his numbers a tad more impressive than they look on paper.

He looks to be one of the players who could be a superstar - being compared to Fyfe and Dangerfield.
Doubt he will be there at 10.

But he is the type we are after.

His 2 minutes highlights package & the way he is often described gets me excited for sure. I am just not sure he’s a safe option to pick m & if we can afford to take such a risk. I’d love Mckenzie to be available. Seems a flip of the coin though.

If all of McKenzie Phillipou Tsatis and Humphrey are gone before our pick I would swing to Buslinger. I think the next batch of midfielders are not in the same bracket. Hollands had a really good final Champs game particularly early but he is in the Hewitt Hotton Hustwaite discussion IMO.

Ginbey is the wildcard if GC or WC select him then one of the four other mids will make it to us.

I personally don't rate Jhye Clark in that top set of midfielders either though Twomey seems sure he will go 5-8 so I am banking on Geelong taking him

Top 4 seem set:
1. Ashcroft - Bris
2. Cadman - GWS
3. Wardlaw - Nth
4. Sheezel -Nth

Then it is a game of dominos
5. Tsatis - Ess
6. Ginbey - GC
7. Humphrey - Haw
8. Clark - Geel
9. Phillipou - WC
10. McKenzie - StK

If Ginbey isn't selected we will probably be choosing between him and Buslinger

I think Ginbey is better than any of the other midfield options remaining in that case - a bit crude but an athletic beast bit like Eliot Yeo so I would be OK if it fell to him.

Buslinger would be top 10 IMO if he had played more, his injury has seen others pass him but quality wise and potential impact is above the 3rd tier midfielders. Suprised GC isn't into him he fits their needs more than another mid I think. Probably has the highest upside/ceiling of those not currently predicted to be in the top 10.

It would be frustrating that we missed on the top midfielders but we shouldn't compound the problem by overlooking the best talent at pick 10.

He's an enigma for me.

Sometimes I think he has the ability to be game breaker, can break tackles like few others and can be game winner.

On the other hand, he can go missing at times, can be selfish and gives up. I think clubs will look positively on him.
I couldn’t disagree with that comment more. One of the more consistent players all year. Finished ahead of Sheezel at dragons in best & fairest. Plenty of footage of him giving goals off and while at times has shots he shouldn’t that’s what all fwds do. The give up comment is perplexing to say the lease. I doubt you watched him live. I will state I know his father so a little biased but as I stated that’s a poor assessment.
