To be fair, the Gold Coast academy hasn't really given them much. One top 10 pick who is now at another club and that's about it.What a surprise Sydney, GCS etc continue to benefit from their academies. At what point do the same rules apply to their academies as other clubs?
isn't that why they brought in the next generation academies. and now thats being waterered down. so they should with the GWS , Sydney etcWhat a surprise Sydney, GCS etc continue to benefit from their academies. At what point do the same rules apply to their academies as other clubs?
Solid move, I don't know much about the guy but looks like he did the hard yards - always prefer those guys around the club rather than the silver spoon private schoolboys who had it all handed to them.
How many top 10 picks have we had? Next year will be a huge year for their academy players with a top 10 key foward who made this years All Australian side and others. To be fair, the Gold Coast academy hasn't really given them much. One top 10 pick who is now at another club and that's about it.

Congrats for them I guess. Why do we need to compare ourselves to Gold Coast? Obviously it sucks for us to not get our academy guy for free but we play the hand we are dealt. I'd be much more annoyed about Sydney having more good academy players, they've had major handouts from their academy for ages in Mills, Heeney, Blakey, Campbell all being Top 10 (or equivilent bids) picksHow many top 10 picks have we had? A left field strategy : When the draft evens out , and players are hard to seperate , go the Tasmanian option.
The AFL will not set Tassie up to fail , and they will get all kinds of draft concessions , and Tassie , like those before them , will pay overs for that local talent. If Lachie Cowan for example - was there at one of our 2nd Rounders and we took him , down the track , we would have the option to hang on to him , or to cash in. There are only 21 Tassie players currently on AFL lists atm.

No Keeler in top 30Cal's form guide
Mentions us as having interest in Tsatas (3), Humphrey (6), Phillipou (9), McKenzie (10), Hollands (11) and Hewett (13) with the strongest link being to CMac.

Nope all Tasmanian players to play for the Tasmanian team.
AFL need to set it up that way to recognise the pillaging of talent and $s from the state for decades (from a tad defensive Tasmanian!).

If a side takes Cowan and develops him for a few years they deserve compo though. If Tassie come in perhaps the AFL says they get a free hit at Tasmanian born players but work out a compensation system that the AFL stumps up for at market value or teams will not pick Tassie players for a few years. We need them developing in good systems because they will go home with IP and a good base to work off.
Cmac is our boy by the sounds of it. To be honest out of all those names mentioned, he is my preferred option.Cal's form guide

Both would suit us well so if we could end up with wither of them, we will have done well. That all looks about right. I feel like Phillipou is the only one that might be available of the ones mentioned before CMac. I really like Phillipou, I think he could be a real star type but think that CMac is probably the most safe bet of the potential pick 10s.
Great Result would be:
1st Pick: Mackenzie or Phillipou
2nd Pick: Keelor
3rd: Phillips
4th: Best available
