Clark and his manager yesterday said they expected him to go between 5-7 and he’s mainly been talking to Hawks, Cats and GC.
Almost said he’d be off the board by 7.

Could be in for a bit of disappointment.

Just briefly scanning this and with CMac they say one of his improvements needs to be consistency, then in the first paragraph they say (and I quote)...

"Sandringham Dragons midfielder Cameron Mackenzie is one of the more reliable ballwinners in this year's draft crop, producing a remarkable level of consistency across multiple levels to establish himself as a Top 10 candidate."

The Bombers have been linked to WA on-baller Elijah Hewett, who’s also been linked to St Kilda. Although it’s been suggested the Saints will target a key-position player with one of their second-rounders, with GWV Rebels backman James Van Es linked to the club

Apart from Essendon, who it appears have since settled on Phillipou, no club has been linked to Tsatas. Tsatas seems to be the one player that hasn’t been associated with any club. I think he could be the big slider.

If Tsatas was the midfielder left at our pick would we take him or maybe reach for Hewitt or Hollands? Tsatas does seem too good to overlook at 10 but his low contested numbers worry me.

I would defiantly

take him at ten. We have a lot of inside midfielders but not really any with genuine pace on the outside

Worth noting that Toumpas, Polec and Fiora all went top 5 in their respective drafts.

Fiora would have been a gun in today's game. He was ridiculed for being soft but he'd be be able to play now without being ironed out. He'd e like a faster DMac. Polec looked great at Port but an absolute spud at North. A bit like Hill he wasn't able to find a role that suited his strengths at his new club. Toumpas was a miss but he's not the first or last player to bomb after being drafted high. He ended up a SANFL stalwart which was probably his level or he developed late.

Tsatas looks a good player despite the lack of contested game. This year showed that sides with outside players went well in finals and the sides with dominant midfield sides got knocked off. Melbourne and the Dos are the 2 best grunt midfields in the comp. Both got knocked of by sides that moved the ball fast with run and spread.

He's not my first choice but he looks good to me.

Would love it if Clark made it to our pick

Haven't really thought about to a lot because I didn't think it was likely to happen but it looks like a real possibility now
This

I will also add Clark and Mackenzie look like the 2 safest picks in the top 10 outside of Ashcroft in terms of their games translating.

I just don’t know how high their ceilings are. But they will be 200 game players.

Yeah and if he's getting it 34 times a game there's barely any time left to tackle! 😀

It doesn’t matter how they got there, or which attributes they do or don’t have that Tsatas does, the fact that Toumpas went pick 2, Fiora pick 3 and Polec pick 5 suggests that they were every bit as well performed in the juniors as Tsatas has been, if not more so.

This is no “superdraft”.

So talking up Tsatas like he’s on a different level of talent than guys who were drafted higher than he looks like being drafted just doesn’t add up.

All the sort of accolades that Tsatas is being given now, those guys were likewise being given at the time they were drafted. That’s why they went top 2/3/5.

So just like how it was no guarantee that they would make it big as a result of those, there are likewise no guarantees that Tsatas will because of his.

And again, it is considered an undeniable fact that those who have very low contested ball ratios- like Tsatas- are much less likely to go on to have successful AFL careers than those who do.

That’s all I’m saying. If you’re playing the odds, history suggests the odds of him having a notable AFL career are not high.

Does this mean he won’t? No!! He could be in the small percentage who don’t win their own ball in the juniors who do.

Only time will tell.

I was worried that Max King might be a junior superstar but could struggle to make an impact at senior level because players like Ty Vickery were spuds and he kicked a lot of his goals like a giant Stephen Milne. It's best to not try to overthink it sometimes. He can play.

It's a comparison of a few ordinary players out of a pool of thousands of examples who have similar outside traits. This draft is a fairly ordinary one. Wardlaw, Ashcroft and Sheezel probably the only three I think are certain top players and then there is a pool of guys that look pretty good up until about pick 12 who all have a few question marks, then it turns into a big pool of speculative. We aren't getting a guaranteed star at pick 10.

I tend to agree with Sydney's recruiters, you could potentially get a good player at 35 as easily as one in the teens. It's good enough to get some talent out of but next year definitely sounds a lot more high end.

Damn man now you’ve got me on the Tsatas bandwagon. Looks like we will almost certainly end up with one of Tsatas, Clark or Mckenzie with Humphrey an outside chance depending on what GC do with pick 5.

Clark's still the one I'm least excited about but it's looking more likely.

The game has moved on from too many tough gritty inside players and we do have a couple already but perhaps that means he'll be coming on just at the right time as the older guys move on. He's very Selwood.

If it falls that way & WC take McKenzie then I hope we take Hewitt. Or trade into next year.
If WC take McKenzie I hope he does a Jamie Cripps & walks out on them after a year, returning to St Kilda.

Yeah, that's one thing he's been praised for.

He's definitely more of the more bankable players from this draft. He's a bit smaller than our older inside players but he is the type who could take over from Crouch in 2-3 years.

But in a draft of tall and explosive mids, I'm just more inclined to want one of them.

I agree with this. At our draft range Clark & Mckenzie look the most balanced midfielders that can play inside & outside which bodes well for having a long AFL career. However, there’s a big difference between 200 Jack Newnes games & 200 from Joey Montagna. Hopefully the latter, if we get one of them.

I’d be happy with either Mckenzie or Clark. But I don’t think we need to necessarily target a taller midfielder after taking Windy & Owens last draft. Clark also plays a lot taller than his height. Media seem to be making Selwood comparisons but I’ve also read comparisons to Bartel from some of the draft watchers on here due to his overhead marking ability.

Yep- that's why I'm more interested in who we get with 28, 32 and 47 rather than who we get with Pick 9.

Unless its some speculative tall, Pick 9 should be a good player - but getting quality with 28, 32 and 47 is the real test of drafting skill.

If Clark did fall to us we should be wrapped… have been captain of every team he plays in and surely become a leader at ours. Not worried about his height as we have got some bigger young midfielders already. Must say I’m struggling to see the hype in Tsatas… seems like a bit of accumulator of ball.

If we get him, we will have a very good player. I'm just hoping it is one of CMac, Tsatas, Humphrey, even Ginbey who fall to us to add something a bit different to our midfield mix.
