If we can’t trade up and we get to our pick and the Pou is on the board, but the crows offer 2023 1st rounder, what would you do?
That would be pretty tempting. Adelaide are a Taylor Walker injury away from finishing on the bottom. They need mids too so they’d be desperate enough to throw in something else as well.

Phillipou is the x-factor midfielder we are crying out for. I'd rather take him than hope there is a similar type available at our pick in 12 months time.
He won’t be a mid next year though.

He will need 2/3 pre seasons before we can expect him to be or consider him a “mid”.

I reckon everyone is locked in.

McGowan broke the news we would be taking the one Essendon don’t take yesterday.

We either get a bust or a bonafide stud with Phillipou.

This time, we have the right coach and football department to manage a talent like that
Ess & Haw have done a lot of late work on the Pou plus Pou pretty much said in an interview the other day that he expects to go to the Dons or Hawks. Of course Dodo & Haw could be playing silly games with each other they have form.

Don’t see why he couldn’t be a full time mid next year if he’s good enough.
Lower your expectations 😂

He is a high bust/high ceiling player.

Ideally, he comes in and by years end he has cemented that high half forward/mid role.

Another pre season. Getting size/building a tank etc.

Give him time.

What? Don’t have expectations at all. Just saying if he comes in and the coaches feels he’s good enough to play midfield, there is no reason he shouldn’t get midfield minutes.

I think that’s Essendon shutting up shop and not letting anything out. Could change a lot of club’s moves.
Twomey is an Essendon supporter who normally has good mail out of Windy Hill. But I can't figure out if Tsatas is who he wants the Dons to take or who he thinks they will take. He has been strong on Tsatas all year.

Be very excited about him.

But I wouldn’t be setting huge expectations on him in year 1

Phillipou has been my favourite since day one. Still think he has the potential to be the best player from the draft.

* the figjam, we'd be stupid to pass on him if he made it
Not ideal that he’s from SA and wants to play in “big games” though.

The SA clubs would be coming hard at him for years, and the temptation to play in front of rabid full houses at Adelaide Oval would presumably be very strong.

Does anyone think we will try and tap into GWS mountain of picks and try to move up the board?

Just my theory of multi club pick swap -
28, F3 to GWS for 15, 57, 61.
It would be a push for 15, more prob 18 but that would nab us a player like Charlie Clarke.

Then push 9, 57, 61 (prob 52 & 56 after Bris F/S points) to Ess for 4 & F3

Currently Bomber don’t have enough points for Alwyn Davies if he goes in the late teens and his brother early 30s. They will still get a mid either Tsatas, Phillipou, Clark or CMac. Plus all their points to pick up Alwyn Davey without using their 2nd rnd pick.

That leaves us
4, 15, 32, 47

What would we be willing to give up for that?

Seems like an awkward spot to draft back into.

I'd be doable if it involved our first
There’s super-strong interest in the first pick of the 2nd round each year- for reasons I haven’t quite gotten my head around- so a bidding war could make it very expensive.

If that guy has been playing midfield, why did he only average 16 disposals per game?

The problem with Geelong is that so many who get drafted grew up down that way, and are keen to get back there later in their careers, then it’s also an appealing place to live for those who prefer the country lifestyle, like Jezza Cameron.

Then there’s the fact that Geelong apparently offer everyone incredible property deals, and that no-one gets overpaid there, plus it’s highly appealing to go to a successful club, and they have effectively an interstate team-like home ground advantage 9 times a year, but then effectively have a 2nd home ground at the MCG, so it’s hard to see much changing any time soon.

They have so many advantages it’s not funny.
That’s where the saints need to look around our growth area. Focus on what makes the bayside area great and bring back players who grew up in the area.
Look what Geelong did to lure Jack Bowes and pick 7 into their club for nothing. They identified local talent with contracts running out, talked to them and kept them close.

Fin Callaghan is coming out of contract end of 2023. Mordy boy. Get in there saints and start the convos.
