Oscar Murdoch was the other defender I was really impressed with. Good size for a medium.

Squiggle tips Demons at 77% chance -- What's your tip? -- Team line-ups »
I haven’t watched the 2nd and 3rd quarters but in the 1st quarter I thought Hayes was very good on Humphrey.Hayes was playing on someone who isn't a great matchup. I think he'll be better on talls who aren't quite as explosive as Humphrey.
I get the sense there’s about 20 blokes in “end of first round calculations” after the top 10-12 players. After watching the game yesterday. Weddle is likely the third KPP player off the board. He won’t be far behind Busslinger or Cadman.
Hayes was decent too BUT Humphrey was one of the best on ground and Hayes was playing on him. I think Hayes drops to end of First round calculations.
I like Jhye Clark but likely gone before our pick. IF he is there, he would be hard to pass on. Needs will say MacKenzie or Busslinger before him but he isn’t a bad option.
I also noticed more of Binns than I had previously. He was good and could play that outside role for us. One of the better ones outside of the top 25.
Van Es got turned around and took too long disposing of the ball.
I get the sense there’s about 20 blokes in “end of first round calculations” after the top 10-12 players.
For this reason I’m ok keeping our pick #29 rather than Lobb (who I see the appeal of) and potentially downgrading our pick #11 to 2 picks (maybe GWS #19 and #21 once they have #19 from Richmond).
Noting #19 and #21 likely become #21 and #23 with Amon and McStay comp we could possibly even get #21, #23 and #41 (currently #39) for our Pick #11.I actually like that slide to 19&21. 11 is about the right pick to do that BUT I suspect Weddle goes at 10-14, so we would miss out on him.
I hate pick 29 for Lobb. We have pick 37, which is a much better option for us.
He also had some terrible moments..panicking with the ball is not a good trait for a footballer, especially when exiting the back half. Not a good sign.Van Es had some nice use of the footy good size still needs to fill out. If we didn't get Hayes or Weddle I would take a flyer on him. Binns showed a bit in the Champa final yesterday.
Not sure I see it with Hayes as a lead KPD that you’d take in the first round. The underaged half back Reid bullied him physically a couple of times in 1v1s after being thrown forward. Hayes’ numbers look good but seems to get a lot of his touches from sideways kicks in the backline.
Still keen on Weddle for a late first. He’s got a tough streak, is strong and quick and looks like he’ll keep filling out and be a genuinely big body at AFL level eventually.
Hustwaite is super composed. But his height is a myth, need to take out at least 2 useless inches of his giraffe neck.
We could really do with one of Konstanty or Charlie Clarke on the list.
Depends if they're still growing or not remember Darcy added 5cm+ this year if we draft a 192-193cm and he grows even just 2cm they're a 194/195cmI don't like the fascination with 192-193 cm talls.
Sigh. I'm feeling my age. I remember when some of the best ruckmen were that height.I don't like the fascination with 192-193 cm talls.
Must be all those growth hormones in beef these days...Sigh. I'm feeling my age. I remember when some of the best ruckmen were that height.
Even Chris Grant at CHB was only 193cm.
I think "talls" has to start at 194-195cm these days doesn't it?
He has a big enough leap to play an Easton type role. If he does grow another 3-5 cms will be a genuine KPPI don't like the fascination with 192-193 cm talls.
I don't like the fascination with 192-193 cm talls.
Currently I think we have 11, 29, 37 (North's 3rd) and 65 but that will be subject to the usual shuffling depending on any PPs given to North and when bids come for Ashcroft etc. What picks do we have pre Dunkley trade?
Thanks a lot. Like going to the draft with 3 picks under 30 when you add the Dunks first rounder. Use 37 and 65 on Lobb and ask for something in the 40s in return.Currently I think we have 11, 29, 37 (North's 3rd) and 65 but that will be subject to the usual shuffling depending on any PPs given to North and when bids come for Ashcroft etc.
I am likewise really high on Cowan, I've said here previously that Cowan, Hotton and Weddle is my dream draft (realistically)My list from my amateur watching
A few things.
To my list
- I think Cowan is heavily underrated and I get similar vibes off him to what I did when watching Docherty as an 18 year old. I think he’s more than capable of moving to a wing which is where he has played at times this year
- Hollands is a pretty good fit us, I underrated him earlier in the season. He can play in multiple positions, but looks best on a wing in my opinion. I would certainly consider him at pick 11. Considered one of the best two way runners in the draft and would fit a need
- There are some KPD's we could look at later in the draft. Hugh Davies is one from WA at 196cm. He got a national combine invite so he has a lot of clubs interested in him. He got a bag of goals kicked on him at the championships, but that doesn't necessarily mean he won't make it. Others have had bags kicked on them yet still made good AFL players. Anyway, he has some good athletic traits and is decent with ball in hand. Darcy Minchella caught my eye after watching some SA games. Very skinny, did well in the last half in the season. Classic project type, possibly as a defender or an undersized ruckman. Loads of potential. Kyle Marshall at 198cm too looked like another skinny project that could possibly be a rookie KPD chance also, but I was less excited about him admittedly.

Get Hollands and bring his brother home next yearOkay finally come to my conclusion. Our first pick, if it remains around the 11 mark, my first preference is Elijah Hewett. Closely followed by Oli Hotton, and Hollands. We need burst speed and class and from what I have seen and read, these three fit the bill perfectly, whilst also being somewhat unique to each other.
I'm really keen on McKenzie, to the point I'd honestly pick him ahead of Sheezel. Surprised how low you've got Hewett, he's another I hope we can grab, assuming we've got 3 picks in the first 30 this year.My list from my amateur watching
