What are those concerns? Just strength and contested ability as listed on rookie me.
You'd expect those to improve in the AFL system, especially considering his age and height. I'd much rather take a defender who is athletic but not strong than vice versa (see Keiran Collins)
On the other hand if he lacks aggression it gets lost like Lewis Young did that would be more of a concern. I haven't seen any full games but it seems like he does a reasonably good job of shutting down opponents as well as intercepting?
The issue for me his strength in the contest against his peers, so his improvement from here would have to exceed his peers to not be an issue at AFL level.
Not to make a mountain out of a mole hill, but there were a few contests in the U18 Champs final where he got pushed around by an (admittedly very talented) smaller under-ager. And Weddle seemed to take more of the best key forwards during the year, including Cadman in that Champs game.
Also his disposal and mark numbers are inflated by kick ins and sideways kicks in the backline.
I think where there’s a lack of a particularly player type in a draft the best few of that type always get elevated beyond their actual standing in their cohort. We’ve seen it with key defenders a few times.
He’s talented and I’m not against drafting him, but I’m not sure he’s big/athletic or competitive enough to end up being a defensive game changer. More of a solid citizen. If he’s available in the 20s then I would be fine with picking him up.
