Unless Geelong take Buss, I think he’ll be there for us.

Perhaps this changes if Ginbey goes earlier, WC may go Buss. But seems like they’re keen to bolster their midfield.

Nothing wrong expressing your Frustration hopefully the club draft’s a young developing KPD. It’s a shame we lost Lewis Young after all the development the club put into him.
And Marcus Adams, it’s not like we haven’t drafted defenders, we have just had some problems keeping them.

Question, which club do people believe develops the best key position defenders?

If we take a KPD I just want them to have the right kind of support around them
And no I don’t mean other teammates, I mean off the field

Geelong, Adelaide and West Coast.

Starting to feel like we may miss out on Hollands now. Blues seem to be keen, they need an outside running type to compliment their inside brigade. And apparently he is a Blues fan as well. All the players I would like to slip to us at 11 (12) seem to be more likely to be gone now. At this point Busslinger seems to be the most likely to reach us. Not my main preference. As I feel Intercept defenders can be found everywhere.

We need more man on man type defenders than intercept types, and those willing to fight for each contest. Half our defence ball watch or quit running and drop their heads when beat on the lead, its not a good look.
If we really are set on an outside runner who can kick, Hotton is a vague chance of slipping to our second pick (or we may rate him at pick 12)
Pretty much anyone available at pick 12 is a position of need (IF Jefferson is on board with playing in defence).

Agree, the three clubs I'd nominate as well.
Sydney are pretty good at it too
We'd have to be in one of the worst categories. Since Grant was done. I can only recall Lake and Naughton as genuine talls we have drafted, developed and turned into A graders. Never had a dominant forward or ruck the whole time since I started following the team since 2007. Not counting anyone we have traded in. Makes me wonder why we are so poor at drafting and developing KPP.

Will Minson was a genuine A grader for a while. But yes, your point still stands, talls have never been our strength. Most clubs would be pretty envious of the midfielders we've developed over the years though

Since we usually pick midfielders early and often, we get lots of chances to find elite ones.
KPP not so much.

Huddo was recruit of the year when we got him.

KPP that are as competitive as mids in their draft year go picks 1-5. They are rarer and we’re less likely to have those low picks considering we’ve finished middle of the table mostly for 10 years

Is there anyway to tell how far our pick 39 comes in with all the bids etc?

No.
Lions could trade some or all of those picks out for points on the night.

I would suggest that there will be 4 players bid matched prior to our pick and that our pick will end up at pick ~41 (after picks being used).

The system of picks to points is broken.

I think it might end up being earlier given Brisbane will likely use all of 34, 35, 36 and 38 to match bids.

Yep they can't trade out endlessly as the free list spot per pick rule is back in force. Plus they need to match two first round bids as Fletcher is slated in the mid teens range

WESTERN BULLDOGS

Arrivals:
Liam Jones (free agency/Carlton), Rory Lobb (traded/Fremantle)

Departures: Louis Butler (delisted), Zaine Cordy (free agency/St Kilda), Josh Dunkley (traded/Brisbane), Lachie Hunter (traded/Melbourne), Stefan Martin (retired), Charlie Parker (delisted), Josh Schache (traded/Melbourne), Mitch Wallis (delisted)

Uncontracted: None

Contracted: 38 (one category B rookie)

Draft picks: 11, 21, 39, 69

The Bulldogs have five list vacancies, or six if a second category B rookie is included, and have a good draft hand to help fill them. They are set to make three picks at the national draft and up to two more in the rookie draft, unless a spot is left open. Buku Khamis and Jordon Sweet must be upgraded under league rules on how long players can be on the rookie list.

Once the draft opens, they can trade out any pick for multiple picks. There are no requirements at that point to only have picks you have list spots.

There is nothing stopping North from trading up into those picks and Lions getting a pick surplus back. It’s what they will do on draft night.

So based on that we don't have a list spot for James Rowe or any other DFA unless they come as a rookie?

Surely that's not how it works? It would make the list spot requirement completely redundant.
