Bombers may need to trade 22 because it could get eaten up by a Davey bid. 21 and 22 could be nice to go with 11. Not sure what we could offer probably a future selection. I’m not over what we have next year other than two firsts. We could trade out 39 and our pick in the 60’s for points to them and maybe a future 2nd or better still 3rd rounder for 22 and a later future pick back.

We're taking 3 live picks at the draft - in that scenario our third pick will be 69

I think you're on the money Mof.

If we traded out 21 for a F2 (unlikely in my uninformed view) then we'd have 11,39,69 as picks for new players plus two very late picks to upgrade Sweet and Khamis. Maybe they'll be picks 87 and 105 but the actual pick # is immaterial for those upgrades. Most clubs will be saying "pass" long before then.

One reason we might do this apart from rating a 20-something pick next year better than pick 21 this year is that we could be thinking about our now traditional selection of the best player on the Footscray VFL list. Probably Lachie Sullivan this year but someone suggested Gilbee would go all right.

These picks get mocked a bit here but they routinely outperform most of our senior list players playing at VFL level. Yes, they have a modest ceiling - we know they'll never be rated elite at AFL level - but you know you'll get a player with some footy nous who will try his guts out if given the chance. Case in point: McComb is still on our list while Butler is gone.

So it seems pretty likely we could get Sullivan with pick 69. If that's the plan then we might wait until we see what we got for pick 11 before trading out pick 21. If our first round selection ticks the requisite boxes then we might be happy to get one other handy player at pick 39 (e.g. Phillips if he's still there) and turn 21 into a F2. If on the other hand we miss out on all our preferred players at pick 11 we might decide to hang onto pick 21 and that would mean hoping Sullivan lasts to the RD.

And if another club likes Sullivan and gets him before we do it's not the end of the world. I'm sure we have a good number of speculative options at that end of the ND or in the RD.

21 is a high end 2nd rounder so I would want a high end second or late first next year back. Always a gamble for clubs trying to predict where others may finish next year.

The Bulldogs will be disappointed to head into the draft armed with only the single first-round selection, having sought a high pick from Brisbane in exchange for [PLAYERCARD]Josh Dunkley[/PLAYERCARD], however had to settle for the Lions’ pick 21 after a drawn out saga.

They will be looking to get some good value out of their 11th overall selection and, considering Dunkley’s departure, a midfielder looks to be the target for the Bulldogs.

Murray Bushrangers talent Oliver Hollands seems to fit the bill perfectly, an elite runner that could command a wing spot for the club, freeing up star [PLAYERCARD]Bailey Smith[/PLAYERCARD].

Cam Mackenzie from the Sandringham Dragons and West Australian Elijah Hewett are bigger bodied mids that could also catch the Bulldogs' eye should Hollands be off the board.

The Bulldogs are stocked at key positions, so taking anything other than a midfielder with their only first round pick would be a surprise.

2022 Picks: 11, 21, 39, 69

Busslinger and Van Es could be a great backline duo given a couple years to develop. Buss intercepts everything that comes his way and Van Es plays on the gorillas.
I don’t know about Van Es at our 21 though
Or did you mean the pick that follows?
Someone like Clarke or Konstanty in the middle, possibly even George
Would be nice
Even taking the two key defenders in the draft I would still want one come the rookie draft. If not key defenders: than forwards or a ruck. Personally not keen on rookie selecting a midfielder

The two first rounders next year we could select a couple of midfielders and start building the team to comeBontempelli as he’s winding down

Yeah, I reckon Van Es should reach 39. Busslinger, Konstanty/Clarke/George/Burgiel, then Van Es.

This would absolutely be a dream draft for me.
Add a slider like George or a winger/outside runner that can hit up fwd targets.
Sprinkle in a few f/s and the doggies could have a long finals shelf life.

There's a few decent options who could be there at 21. Ed Allan might be there. Coby Burgiel can play anywhere well. Konstanty and Clarke can be there as smalls.

Kind of agree we go with the midfielder first but a mid will be the best available at our pick 11/12 aside from Busslinger so the article is obvious ?

Whatever happens I would like at any one of our picks
Busslinger
Hayes
Phillips
Or
Van Es

If we choose two of then brilliant we have closed a structural list problem

If Hollands or Mackenzie are available at our Pick 11 and we take Busslinger, I think I'll spew
