A cursory glance at the draft, I would like us to get Phillopou, Hayes and Barnett.

We need players developing in the VFL, and Phillopou’s overhead marking is something we lack. We don’t want to be caught without a ruck going forward, and a developing Key defender to replace Jones/Keath later on.

Agreed and would love this outcome but currently we haven’t been linked with any of these players. And it looks like Hayes / Barnett will go earlier than expected. We would likely need to trade up to get them.

Van Es looks a pretty solid KPD prospect from what I’ve seen.

Why is he going in the 30’s in a draft that looks to be pretty weak, especially on KPD?
Late comer too Rep footy, so he isn't as far along as others. Looks to have some great tools to work with though. Feel like he would take some development but could be a solid citizen as a KPD

I think his got the highest upside of all the key defenders available. Unfortunately also got the lowest floor.

We would need to trade our future first and future second; and even then o don’t think we can get all 3 of those targets.

Cal twomey Has linked us to Ed Allen.

He said Geelong is considering him, with us and west coast a chance within first dozen selections.

His highlights don’t show much ability though.. but something to keep in mind.

Maybe with the second rounder but I just don't see him as being worth a first round pick.

He's also linked us to Ryan, Hustwaite, Cowan, constantly, Hotton, Davey, Fletcher, Busslinger, Hollands and Philippou.
Kind of just feels like he's stabbing in the dark.

Out of all the teams, guessing correctly who we take has never been done.

Still keen on Keeler personally. Can take the time to develop. With Lobb, English and Darcy playing that forward / ruck roles.

Could be a deadly combo with Darcy down the track.

So Cal Twomey has released his final draft rankings today for the month of November. Players we are possibly linked to in the pick range.

11. Phillipou, Hollands, Busslinger
21. Hotton, Konstanty, Cowan, Hustwaite, Ryan

The last three are somewhat new to the discussion. Zero links to either Hayes or Weddle unfortunately. Interesting that Clarke didn't crack the top 30 despite being talked up a bit a few weeks ago.

I think Hayes and Weddle just aren’t predicted to be around our picks.

Cowan, an attacking half back who wants to play for Tasmania. Bingo. Draft immediately.

I think the belief is that Hayes/Weddle will go somewhere between our first & second pick

A small forward & KPD in both the main/rookie draft is what I’d like, unless some surprising players are still available for us

I like that cowan isn't just an attacking half back like we have plenty of. He has shown he can play further up the ground and in my opinion would be a walk up best 22 player for us be it in defence or on a wing. His also got one of the best attitudes/personality of anyone in the draft. He will also do anything for the jumper he wears so I believe after two years in a good environment he will be 100% committed and not look to leave.

He can potentially play wing though. Hard at it, tall, decent pace, accurate long kick. Everything you want in a winger. The downside is not huge enough a sample to know whether he can be a full time midfielder, or best suited to rebound from defence.

The flight risk is real. But unless he spuds it up and drops in value. We would probably get more back than what we paid for going on recent trends should he seek a return home. Bleed Tassie dry for all their picks ;) No doubt the AFL will give them massive GWS and GC style draft concessions, perhaps even more generous ones.

I don't think we need him. If we did not have holes in defence, small forward and pure winger. I would grab him for sure. But would rather a defender or small forward at 21.

Have we seen him play on the wing, or is it still speculative based off his skill set?

With the evenness of the draft it's all redundant until we see who is available at the time. With Allan and the likes possibly bolting, players we haven't even thought would be an option all of a sudden become options.

His spent plenty of time on the wing not speculating there. I am more speculating on his defensive abilities which I base off his attitude and skillset.

I gotta feeling that Ed Allen is Bevo perfect idea of a modern footballer.

Basically has been compared to Mark Blicava with his versatility.. but has burst speed.

I wish he used that speed in game. For me the potential of him going pick 7 is crazy given it's a purely crystal ball type pick. He could be blicavs he could also be like a tomlinson or brander. Capable everywhere but above average nowhere

Maybe just maybe that’s because he was coming back from a serious back injury…

I very much doubt that he would be attracting this much interest if he didn’t actually have speed on the football field

Bulldogs Primed to Strike Gold

It's game on for the NAB AFL Draft, which commences on November 28, with the Western Bulldogs well positioned to secure some of the best talent available .

With picks 11 and 21, plus 39 and possibly 69, the Bulldogs are poised to add some serious quality to their list, to address their list needs.

Expected to challenge for the flag again in 2023, the acquisition of a natural forward with pace, in addition to a big-bodied midfielder to replace the void left by Josh Dunkey's departure, will be high on the Dogs' Recruitment Team's shopping list.
With this in mind here are the four best players for each of the priorities that the Bulldogs are a realistic chance of securing:

a) Speedy small forward: Olli Hotton (pick 21 chance)
b) Speedy, outside mid/wingman: Oliver Hollands (pick 11 chance)
c) Big bodied mid with forward craft: Mattaes Phillipou (pick 11 chance)
d) Tall defend: Jedd Busslinger (pick 21 chance)

It is Phillipou, son of former Bulldog player Sam, that has the Bulldogs salivating most. He plays similarly to Jake Stringer and has match-winning capabilities. Cal Twomey describes him as a prospect who could be anything: "There's a lot to be excited about when watching Phillipou play, be it his dual position capacity – through the midfield and as a forward – his overhead marking, his goalkicking and high impact."

Hollands would also be a golden get, with the athletic star described as "An Ed Langdon-style of midfielder who can run and run and keep running. Hollands is likely to start his career as a wingman but he could also play off a back flank as well as through the midfield." He won the 2km time trial and would be an ideal candidate for Lachie Hunter's vacant wing.

If Busslinger were to slide to pick 21, the Dogs would surely strike. Twomey says "He can be a regular ball-getter in the back half, having averaged 24 disposals at Colts level this season. A proactive backman with sure hands."

Finally, Hotton emerges as the jewel to the Bulldogs small forward brigade, to compliment Cody Weightman, with his explosive pace, elite vertical leap and pressure skills. Twomey says he "Has strength and stamina to his game and is adept at finding the footy." The Dogs will watch with interest.
If the Dogs secure any two of these, the pieces to the Premiership Puzzle will take a significant step forward. Bulldog supporters have genuine reason to get excited.

No way buss falls to 21. If he did even I would be happy to take him

When are we down for the Bulldogs phantom draft everyone?

I’ll run it if need be.
I’d randomise the teams and potentially look at giving two clubs to the one person if the clubs don’t have as many early selections.
