I'd be hesitant to give up pick 11 if either of Busslinger or Phillipou are there. The flipside of that is I think Busslinger is the one teams will probably pay the most to live trade up for if he's there.

If we were to trade down I think best case scenario for us is to do it live and hope Sydney are after someone who is free at our pick. Their 14 and 17 would be a lot tastier than the GWS picks

There was talk of them wanting to trade up so there could be a top 10 projection they are looking at who could slide into our position

Where does this kid land? He is literally exactly what we need on a wing - 194cm midfielder, 2.81 second 20m!!! kicks on both feet.

He’s just about my number 1 want I reckon.

His dad Ben was a 3x Sandover Medallist, a Hawthorn premiership player and the Hawks B&F that year (1991).

However he only played 98 games for Hawthorn.
Shucks, what a shame.

Looks like a perfect type for modern footy.

Would be a good get for Hawks then if he lasts to 24.

What kind of offer would we need live to trade away pick #21? Could we possibly get offered a late F1 if someone rated by another team to be top 10 is still in the board? Probably more likely to get offered a later pick in the 20s plus a F2

It depends on their desperation level and who is still on the board…. We might want to stay out and take a player, rather than trade back.

Is there any other academy or father sons we want bid on early, to slide 39 up as much as possible? Apart form the Brisbane pair and Davey if he nominates?

Some things to note.

Josh Weddle - While he did amazingly well for his athletic testing, he also tested in under 192cm. Recruiters could be a little gun shy in taking him early as he is at a tricky height. His ball use is also of some concern as he only went just above 60% kicking efficiency which is pretty average for a defender

Charlie Clarke - Tested quite poorly, although it doesn't look like it's an issue out on the field. May take some time to get his endurance up to the level though which I have no issue with

Toby McMullin - Not a very well known player, but tested very well apart from endurance. He's a pressure forward and a pretty good ball user. He didn't get it enough which is why he will probably go later in the draft or possibly as a rookie. I think he would suit us.

Don't forget our 39 will move forward a fair bit. Brisbane will be cashing in all of their 34, 35, 36 and 38 on FS bids.
That will be offset a bit by the picks getting pushed back as bids on Ashcroft, Fletcher and maybe Davey junior are matched.
The other good thing is that it is just before the NGA limit so if we like a player like Munkara he's still in play and Essendon might even pay overs in a trade to get a player at that pick and be able to match for Munkara with later picks

Would be funny to have two Toby Mcs

I wonder if GWS would do 18 & 19 for 11? I think the only player I wouldn’t do it for on draft night is if Phillippou slipped through to 11. Even Buss I’d probably rather Weddle/Hayes + Allan over Buss.

18, 19, 21 is such a good spot for us - could quite realistically bring in Weddle, Allan, Clarke & Van Es or that VFL defender at 39.

Plus those picks would be worth a fortune on draft night

Out of our three biggest list needs. Defender, Winger and Small Forward. We may not be able to cover them all in this draft given we may only take 3 picks in. Personally if we had to miss out on addressing one of those three, I would pick small forward.

Time wise we cannot afford to delay development of young defenders given our age profile in defence, especially when there is no guarantee of someone making it. We should be aiming to draft at least one defender for the next three drafts. Wing we have no one natural, strong, quick and lethal by boot. I know we could use the Smiths, Treloar etc. But then we will be slow as in the center, and on the end of 7 goal quarter runs from teams in the middle.

Small forward I feel is one of those positions whilst important in its own way, can be covered by role players to decent effect, example West. I'd even bypass that position to prioritize a strong burst/damaging mid in the middle over a small forward.

I am hoping we get a great offer for pick 11. There may be two really good players there but to get 2 bites at the cherry a few picks later would be great.

Pick 18&19 are about ideal for us. Keeping 21 to take just after that would be about perfect.

Pick 18 = Weddle?
Pick 19 = Hayes
Pick 21 = Konstanty / Clark (whoever doesn’t go at pick 20)

Then pick 39 will move up to pick 34 and we can draft a wingman at that point.

That would set us up nicely.

Yeah I think the trades fair as well, depending on how many picks GWS want to take but they have a heap at the moment so you’d think they’d want to move up.

Most years I would never do 11 for 18 & 19 to be honest so I think it’s still in their favour. Only reason I’d entertain it is cos we’re in the strange position where I’d rather quantity over quality - due to last two drafts - most years the winner would be the team that gets the high pick IMO
