Question. Buss seems pretty vanilla in some respects. Is there a reason he's tipped to go first round apart from the fact that he's tall?

PS. Note your comments about him reading the play hatescaptcha

I get what you're saying but look at Bev's history with draftee mids - one thing you can't dispute is that he often gets these guys to contribute in a big way nice and early. Dunks, McLean, Baz, and even some of the lesser lights playing above themselves for their first years.

Been a while since he's had a look at one of these early mids and things do look a little stale. It'd be great to have a developing KPD but, gee, sure would be nice to have some fresh legs coming in with something to prove immediately through the middle.
Yeah no doubt, I’m very keen to get fresh legs into our midfield - and if someone like Phillipou who is a big boded midfielder with a bit of burst and can kick goals falls to us would be very hard to pass up.

But just mean in a general sense if we rate a KPD & a mid at a similar level I think we just have to go KPD as it’s more pressing and we really need a high quality talent developing there as they take time. Whereas even if we miss out on a mid this year we should have at least one good pick where we can pick up a mid next year and still have them contribute quickly like you mentioned.

Think Buss does become a genuine key defender who can shutdown as well as intercept. He has played as a third tall this year but I think that’s more due to his superior ability to intercept and read the play. That teams think he’s more damaging played that in that position.

Busslinger did play on Walter for the game who was the Allies No 1 tall forward, so didn't just play as a 3rd tall. Walter is shaping up as a high pick next year so it was a good test for him. He had a few kicked on him, but was decent one on one and it was a good matchup. He does have a fair bit to work on defensively still and not convinced he could go with the better forwards though. He plays too loose at times and Walter had him cold a couple times out the back. He was very good offensively though, had over 20 possessions and was one of his sides better players that game from memory.

To me, he's much more suited playing as a 2nd or 3rd tall. Ideally he could take a resting ruck and run off him.

I really like Jones as a player, just not sure where he would fit into the team exactly. Looked best as an onballer in the champs, not sure that will happen at AFL level. Where do you see him fitting in? Half forward?
Small forward, half forward, wing - could see him playing any of those

My dream haul:

11 - Hollands or Phillipou
21 - Weddle
38 - Charlie Clarke

Wingman, tall defender and small forward. Out three biggest needs imo.
Mines probably:

Busslinger
Allan
Clarke

But I’d be sad on missing out on Weddle, Phillippou/Weddle/Clarke would do me just fine too

Who do we think for 11? We have been arguably the best team in the league for first round picks over the last few years:

  • Smith
  • Naughton
  • Weightman
  • JUH
  • Darcy

adding another of that kind of quality will be exciting.

We also just need two young talls to develop. We now only have Gards (others are not tall enough).

For me we meet specific needs later in the draft after best available at 11
  • two of Weddle, Hayes, Van Es and Philips at 21 and 39
  • Young tap ruck Smokey with last pick or give Crossley a go - still only 23 - a bit smaller but has Hudson qualities. Still think Sweet is coming along just slower than we would have hoped.
  • Pick up two recycled like Stocker and Rowe or Lewis Taylor (small forward). Not sure if any other rejects meet a need. Sydney Stack?

I would be happy.

Hollands just feels so vanilla, endurance his only standout trait as far as I can tell

Also Clarke well gone by 38 IMO

I think Port will be a strong candidate for Busslinger. They have quick, small, decent ball users, a decent forward line. It's defensive depth they lack. Who takes over the tall intercept role is Allir goes down?

They don't have a pick until late 30's I think

I'm no draft expert but I feel like, for a winger, that is the most important thing, plus a good kick which I think he has. I'd say Langdon at Melbourne is pretty vanilla but is a very important player for them.

I'm an idiot. Legit forgot for a moment they had traded it out. Was trying to think of how the top 10 would pan out off the back of my mind.

I think Hollands shows in the Metro vs Country game he has a bit more about him than he’s given credit for. There’s more than a bit of Sam Walsh about him.

I think he might be my first choice too. Phillipou, Busslinger, Ginbey, Hollands in that order.

Philipou, Ginbey, Hollands, Busslinger for me.

With Hollands being the only one of the four I think will actually be there at our pick.

Ginbey to WC, which is a shame, as I really rate him. He won’t ever leave WC if they draft him…. which makes me a bit sad.

Geez Bailey Humphrey would be nice if he could only kick straight in front of goal

Personally I think he might be the slider on draft night, think he’s been fairly overrated in my opinion. At least as a top 10 prospect. If he passes Sydney’s late first round picks; would be tough to pass on at 21
I’m going for something slightly different
1st pick Charlie Clark, 2nd Bailey Humphrey 3rd Ethan Phillips
