Geez Bailey Humphrey would be nice if he could only kick straight in front of goal

Personally I think he might be the slider on draft night, think he’s been fairly overrated in my opinion. At least as a top 10 prospect. If he passes Sydney’s late first round picks; would be tough to pass on at 21
I’m going for something slightly different
1st pick Charlie Clark, 2nd Bailey Humphrey 3rd Ethan Phillips

Humphrey isn’t a bad kick, he is just kicking it to the wrong spots. It’s decision making, so yes, he may fall but Swans will love him.

So what is the consensus as to which player we want with our first pick, as in position type?

I won’t be concerned if we don’t draft a mid in the first two rounds this year and instead round out our KPD and small forward stocks. We’ll have two firsts next year to draft mids or trade up into the elite mid range.
Agree and very happy to give West, Garcia and McLean the extra midfield opportunities this year to figure out if it’s even a priorirty next draft period.

My predictions is Tsatas to dons, Jhye to hawks, Keeler to saints. I have no idea what suns n cats will do. Ginbey to eagles, then Hewett.

Is he weak on his left side or just strong/good enough to fend off or side step at that level and get back on his right so why not.
I’ll be honest, I hadn’t even noticed
My question is where will his best position end up
Macrae as a junior would dance around his opponents to get on his preferred, so you might be right

Kevin Sheehan's write-ups on rucks and tall forwards

Some late prospects that caught my eye

Darcy Minchella is someone I've mentioned on here before. I think he could develop into a key defender, he has some exciting attributes. Took some very good contested marks in the games I saw and is super athletic. Not much of him, will very much be a project as the write-up mentions.

Hudson O'Keffe is another one I've mentioned. Comes from a basketball background and came a bit later into the game so there's upside there. Late birthday too. He will take time to build his endurance up as it's quite poor. Ruckman.

Toby Murray has impressed me at times too and developed well throughout the year. Ruckman/forward

Jovan Petric is another also, but I don't think he's one for us.

There’s talk Sydney wanting to trade up for Humphrey - if he’s still there at our pick, I’d very much entertain listening to an offer. Especially if they are willing to put a future first in the package..

Interesting to read that some pundits believe that most of the top players this year would only go in the second round of previous drafts.

I think we will see a few surprises after the top 5. Ashcroft, Cadman, Wardlaw, Sheezel and Tsatas seem to be the consensus standouts. The draft is seen as very even after pick 10 to about pick 30. I shake my head when I see Cowan and George in the late 20's for example, I would very much consider them at pick 11 along with Hollands, Phillipou and Ginbey.

If he’s there I wonder if theyd do 14 & 17 for 11 & 39? I’d do it if Buss or Phillipou aren’t there and they might if they’re desperate for Humphrey.

Makes us a certainty to get Weddle, Allan & Clarke if we wanted them - they’re my 3 favs should we miss out on Buss & Phillipou IMO

I agree - if Phillipou is gone happy for us to trade back if the deal is right.

All I ask for is a naughton clone to play in defence immediately.
Not unreasonable right?
Jedd Busslinger? Best key defender in the draft, from WA, super strong intercept mark. Mobile but maybe not super quick off the mark (we forget Naughty only ran a 3.10 20m, most people here wouldn’t want him in defence with that time if we were drafting him now 😅)

Wonky/weird kicking action but racks up heaps of the ball….

Doesn’t get much closer than that on paper!

Sydney don’t rate this draft class highly. They prefer next year. We may be able to do 11 + future second for 14&17, IF Humphrey is there.
Otherwise they would be interested in pick 17 being traded for a future first.

I'd rather just take him ourselves, but like Phillipou I'd be surprised if he's available at our pick.
I'd be satisfied if we gambled and took Brayden George at pick 11 too - we'd be getting the ACL discount, but natural goal sense in a guy who could very well become a midfielder in time is pretty special to add to the list. Some guys just have that innate football brain forward of centre, and he's one of them.
Still like Weddle too, we've probably forgotten what a defender who absolutely shuts down a forward even looks like.

Sounds like a bit of a dumbass anyway, I mean think what you want but how dumb can you be to post it on social media a month out from the draft
Agreed. Twomey is bigging him up as the big personality in the draft which usually means too dumb to censor themselves a la Jack Higgins.

Seems like a smart kid, even if he’s a bit of a prick.

Post negative stuff about all the clubs you DON’T want to draft you and the chances are they won’t. That’s the theory anyway.

You’d just want to have a thick hide for all the stuff that comes back at you though. Not just now but down the track.

Or if one of those clubs decides to call your bluff.

WESTERN BULLDOGS
Draft picks: 11, 21, 39, 69

List needs: Key defender, wingman, small forward

Who could be available at first pick: Jedd Busslinger, Mattaes Phillipou, Oliver Hollands, Olli Hotton

Who’s in the mix after that: Henry Hustwaite, Lewis Hayes, Jaspa Fletcher, Josh Weddle

The Bulldogs have a solid draft hand and should be able to fill some list holes with their first and second picks. South Australian midfielder-forward Mattaes Phillipou would be a good option with their first pick if he falls outside the top-10. West Australian key defender Jedd Busslinger would be another good option, with the club’s key defensive stocks looking a touch thin. After Lachie Hunter’s departure during the trade period, hard-running wingman Oliver Hollands would also be handy. With pick 21, Victorian key defenders Lewis Hayes and Josh Weddle could be available if the Bulldogs don’t secure Busslinger with pick 11. Henry Hustwaite is a tall midfielder who can play midfield or defence, while Jaspa Fletcher is another handy wingman but is a NGA prospect for Brisbane.

Latest word: Mattaes Phillipou is the son of Sam Phillipou, who played only three games in his one season with Footscray in 1995 but also enjoyed a successful career in the SANFL.
