I’d like to see us use a future second to get 21 up to GWS’s 15/18 or Sydney’s 17. Should secure Weddle or Hayes for us while still being able to grab any sliders from the top group at 14.

Would even look at just a straight swap of Brisbanes future first for one of those this year.

I quite like the prospect of trading 11 (12) plus future second for 18&19 (21&22).

I think that is quite an even trade but we could get a better offer IF GWS instigated the discussion.

It would mean we don’t get quite as good first pick but make up for it with an extra early choice.

IF that is the case I would pick:
George
Jones
(West Coast pick) *
Clarke

* WC would pick Jones here, so IF we prefer any of the others more, we could leave Jones to them.
# There may be Weddle or Hayes or Barnett or Keeler all available at this point, we could always take one of these talls instead.

Realistically if you want to grab a slider from the top group pick 11 is probably already ambitious let alone 14. Expecting that player to slide to 14 is unlikely.

Zero developing KPDs isn’t how I’d love to go into 2023

Word is we’re only taking 3

That would mean we aren’t splitting pick 11 and will most likely stay put.

I had hoped we would take 4 this year.

Then it will be:
Hollands
Clarke
Van Es

Not what I want.

Other option could be 11&39 for 18&19…. Which is a way to get our picks higher into likely KPD range.

It does sort of seem like, for most draft watchers, things get a bit more speculative from pick 15 on. There seems to be the top 5 the next 6 and then another 3 with Hollands, Hewitt and Jefferson. There's potential for movement between each group which is why a slider it is the second group could get to us but from what I've seen and read I'd be surprised if we took someone from that plus 15 group unless we reached for a kpd like Hayes.
With that in mind if we did want to target the Sydney or GWS picks we might not have to give up much more than 11 if they liked who was available there and saw a similar gap in the draft.

This is a consensus top 20, averaged from about six different journos. There’s a huge drop after pick 11, and we’ll have pick 12. Unless one of those top guys slips, I’d want to see what we could get for pick 12 on the night, maybe for someone who really wants Jefferson.

Not sure who would bite:
Dees with Pick 13 would be the obvious choice.
Pick 13 under F2 (Dees/Freo) for pick 11 and F3 (Dees)

Pies 16&25 for pick 11&39, appears light for mine. Perhaps a future pick swap of our F2 for their F1…. But we would need to source a F3 from elsewhere, as they don’t have a F3 and can’t trade F1 without F2&3.

GWS would be the other candidate, as taking 2 slightly different KPF together isn’t a bad strategy.
Pick 11&39 for pick 18&19 is about even.

Unless someone wants to trade a future first…. St Kilda, GC or North would be the only obvious options. None of the others really need a KPF. St Kilda should just take Jefferson IF they want him. North could easily trade in with F1 but I wouldn’t take Ports but would take their F1 for pick 11.

Additional:
I think Philipou drops and Saints take Jefferson. We take Philipou or get a huge offer….

I’d wondered if GWS might want the double threat in Cadman and Jefferson.

As I mentioned just above it looks like there's another drop after 14 so I wouldn't add too much to 11 to get an extra later pick

He's from Devonport and played TFL with North Launceston. Any Tasmanian AFL team would definitely be based in Hobart, which is a 3-4 hour drive from Devonport, or a 50 minute flight from Tullamarine. Not convinced there'd be a go home factor there.
If Tassie get a team, they will target Tassie lads around the comp to ensure the state gets immediately behind them.
It will set up the membership drive and create a immediate affiliation with the team and players.
It will avoid the sh!t shows that is the plastics and the suns.

There's been some pick swaps today.

Adelaide has traded 23 to norf for 59 and a future 2nd.
Lions has traded 56 to adelaide for a future 4th round selection.

Not sure wtf Adelaide is thinking. It seem Lions are going to use future picks after the Ashcroft bid to trade back in enough points for Fletcher.

Likely we will only end up using three picks. But Sam Power did hint in one of his recent interviews about using next years draft hand to potentially move a future pick back into this years draft if needed. Or we see a player we like a lot. So would not surprise me to see any moves made of sorts. Genuinely not fussed who we pick up. But if we do not draft at least ONE defender, the club will have a lot of explaining to do given we have next to no genuine young KPD developing. I prefer Weddle but won't mind Hayes. Has time to fill out, and has proven himself capable of all round ability. Man on man, and intercepting.

That’s a great trade for Adelaide, they’ve probably turned pick 23 in this draft into pick 19-21 in a much stronger draft. Norths future 2nd is very valuable
