Van Es has a fairly penetrating kick too which I am a fan of, decision making could use some work but think that should improve over time. He has a fair bit to work with can see him becoming a solid defender.
This statement from ESPN phantom draft peaked my interest.
Van E is currently at 99kgs

"Van Es won the running vertical jump and placed equal first in the standing vertical jump at this year's AFL Draft Combine"

I like what I've seen and heard about Van Es. I'd be happy to use our second pick on him.

Everything about him seems great, except for his putrid performance in the final championship game against Metro.
Ok. Any idea what that was about...or can he not step up in class?

Does anyone think we could package up 21 and F2 second to move up 4-5 places into the late teens again? Gut feel if there is another slider we like, or if we want a defender, it may be a move we have to make. There is a few teams just ahead of pick 21 that either need defenders, or have multiple picks, that they can take a spin on one.

Draft night is my favourite part of the offseason, unless we are part of a massive trade. The 6 week wait between trade period and the draft is the longest month of the offseason. Just drags forever. Cannot come soon enough.

Given we already have 21 which will slide a little, I am.not sure why we would split 11 this year given our own experience.

Yes Dunks was a good pick-up Collins did not work out but Curnow would be handy now.

Unless who we likely want at 11 will either go through to a later pick or is taken before 11 surely this year is.one where we play our actual hand

The issue is he's a bit of a dumb footballer at this stage or a nice way of putting it would be he's more athlete then footballer. Lacks composure and can be a little slow reading the play. A fair bit will depend on character, does he have the determination to make it?

We were very unlucky with Curnow, as he got caught drink driving which is why he slid. Funnily enough we were trying to trade up in the top 5 to get him. The difference is we could still trade down on draft night if there's nothing we really like as the rules have changed.

Everyone can have an off day, and his performance wasn't all that terrible. Pulled the trigger on some great long penetrating kicks.
Kid has the athletic capability, kicking is pretty solid. He is the exact type of low cost KPD that won't be a star but has a good likelihood of becoming a solid citizen.
Well worth a punt at 39 3rd rounders doesn't have a good record of making it so why not take a punt on a dire need with a Hail Mary won't be a lot lost if it doesn't work. If it does work it fills a definite hole in the list

I also heard Carlton would have picked him with the McKay pick (one before us) had we not swapped the picks as they knew we were keen. We weren’t getting Curnow either way but we would have had a shot at McKay.

Jeez the munkara highlights look good. He would be amazing in the forward line , massive X factor. Describes himself as a taller Charlie Cameron.

Espn's phantom draft has the doggies taking Charlie Clarke ( a small fwd) at 38 and Van E taken by the swans at 41.
If Van E's ay 38 we have to give him a crack, due to our kpd stocks.

Really like the look of Darcy Jones. Has Shai Bolton vibes but perhaps without the huge leap?

He is my favourite of the draft. I also liken him to Bolton. Has thr same dash and x-factor aswell as a good blend of talent and athleticism not seen in many prospects this year, especially for a pick in the second round. Only reason for sliding is his height. Like Bolton he will start as a small forward before moving further up the ground.

Yeah that was the case I think, we probably could have got McKay but not Curnow.

In hindsight though 11 for 25 & 26 is just not a good trade. It’s obviously very draft dependant but 11 is a very good pick, you’re only 1 out of the top 10 and probably going to get first pick of a slider etc. you’re a much much higher chance of getting a gun player at 11 than you are at even 18 in most drafts IMO and so the going price to trade up to a pick around 10-12 should be a late first rounder ie 17-20 & another pick in the 20s.

Two mid 20s picks is just not a good enough return for pick 11
