Personally a bit uncomfortable with the idea of George at 12. Only 2 weeks of being eligible for last year’s draft, ACL and other injuries already and little midfield exposure on NAB League. His tackling numbers for a forward were poor. He seems like an all or nothing pick, either it all clicks with his running and defensive effort and he’s a gun midfield/forward hybrid like De Goey or it doesn’t and he’s a handy medium forward that potentially doesn’t pressure enough to warrant a spot next to the KPFs.

I would prefer Hewett at 12. Similar physical attributes, not as electric around goals, but far more proven as an inside mid and gut runner and with a harder defensive edge.

Hewett is third on my (realistic) draft board for pick 11.

What ... isn't he a midfielder? I thought the first seven on your draft board were KPDs.

If we’ve got our eye on George I’d be hoping we’re downgrading if it can land us another pick this year or upgrade one of our later picks etc

I don’t think George is a good fit whether at 12 or 22. He’s a pure marking medium forward which just doesn’t make sense if we view our long term forward line as Naughton, Darcy, Jamarrah and Weightman.

There’s already plenty of marking power in that group, quick pressuring crumbing smalls are what we’ll need to round that out. He would only make sense if we see Darcy staying in defence long term which I’m not opposed to personally.

I remain very unconvinced on Hewett. At his best, sure a top line talent and can be a barometer for his side as witnessed in the Vic Metro game. The major issue with him is mentally he doesn't seem to turn up in some games and he picks and chooses when he wants to give 100% effort and intensity. It's particularly noticeable with some of his physical and defensive efforts. I'm really not convinced he will be able to pull it together at AFL level and I'm even less convinced he will be able to do it with us as it's rumoured he wants to stay home in WA.

What’s your thoughts on Holland? He’s the one I think we’ll get tbh or at least take if available - just can’t see Buss getting past Carlton

Jeez yeah, considering plenty of our losses we just completely dropped our heads we should be interested in very competitive players.

I agree with Hewitt being hot and cold, if we get him so be it but hollands is as consistent as can possibly be and would definitely pick him if he's there

Anyone have the full list of players invited to the opening night/round one? I'm not subscribed to any news pages, so everything is behind paywalls these days.

He seems a 'neat' junior player who does the right things but I'd rather take a player with a year POD to their game. I'd rather someone 'special' but a little more speculative.

Someone like Ed Allen has nowhere near the production (especially early in the season) and is a mile off Hewitt's inside game but a 194cm wingman with his sidestep and acceleration is a lot to work with.
Who cares if it takes him 2 years to work out how to use his gifts - drafting is a long term game anyway.

Only 12 mentioned so far (names posted earlier in the thread).

I haven't seen enough of Allen to make an informed opinion. But going off his highlights, I'm not sure I see 'special' with him. A big reason why he's risen so far is because of his combine results which doesn't really show up in the way he plays. Seems a bit too risky at 12.

He's one I've mentioned earlier in the thread as someone that would be a good fit for us. He's a safe bet and may not end up a star, but I don't see why he couldn't get up to a similar level to an Ed Langden. His kicking is a bit inconsistent, but he has the confidence and ability to hit some difficult kicks when given time and space also.

Charlie Clarke knows he is a serial pest on the field, but he doesn’t care.
The livewire draft prospect, who channels the energy and in-your-face attitude of [PLAYERCARD]Toby Greene[/PLAYERCARD] and [PLAYERCARD]Tom Papley[/PLAYERCARD], openly admits to employing tactics to get under his opponent’s skin.

“Most people I played against don’t like me and I don’t blame them. I’m quite frustrating,” Clarke told the Herald Sun.

“I like to blow in their ear and touch them and be real annoying, but that’s just what I do and it gets in their head and it works for me.”

In the national championships finale in September, Clarke was given close attention by tackling machine Hugh Bond. He kept him to five disposals, but Clarke kicked two goals and “milked” a free kick which set up another.

“He was pushing me over and I tried to milk a free kick and I ended up getting one. I think I got the better of that and then we got the win, so I definitely got the better of him that day,” he said.

Talented kid but sounds like a grade A w***er.

I could be wrong but Hewett consistency problem could be related to not having footy for a couple of years with COVID.

Much like others on here, I have only seen a 90 second highlight.. but gee Hewett looks like a gun in the making.

Imagine him and smith linking through the midfield and hitting up Naughton

I'm unconvinced of Hewett too but his deficiencies can be worked on I hope.

If the night goes that all of Cadman, Ashcroft, Wardlaw, Sheezel, Phillipou, Ginbey, Tsatas, Clarke, Then 1 of Busslinger, Humphrey, Hollands & Mackenzie will be there. It's totally possible that Phillipou still is available at 11 too but he's the 1 that throws a wrench on where he's drafted and Eagles are a wild card because no one knows if they'll go local talent or pick a Vic kid and hope he's not a flight risk.

If Hollands then I think the team will go Hewett though sometimes teams have made their mind up who they're taking even if a player slides. I hope Dogs are open to whoever slips out of the top 10.

The rate of improvement is the other factor too. Some recruiting teams really put an emphasis on that.

Sam Power does run a tight ship though, since he took over we get far less leaks at trade and draft time.
