No way buss falls to 21. If he did even I would be happy to take him
We won't select him at 11, so our only chance is 21. He is predicted late Round 1, so pick 15 - 18 his likely drop. If he gets to us, we are very likely to pounce. Let's see how it pans out.

My favorite scenario is Phillipou (#11) and Hotton (#21)

I think his got the highest upside of all the key defenders available. Unfortunately also got the lowest floor.
Kyle Marshall is a raw'er product with perhaps a lower floor but not too dissimilar ceiling (rookie prospect).

It all depends on who we take in the main draft I guess. I have a sneaking suspicion we end up with Busslinger, I get slightly disappointed about it, then look like and idiot as he turns into an excellent 200 game player.

I'll be right there with you
When are we down for the Bulldogs phantom draft everyone?

I’ll run it if need be.
I’d randomise the teams and potentially look at giving two clubs to the one person if the clubs don’t have as many early selections.
Yes please

I believe his range is 7-16.
There is no way he will go past Pies so if we did want him we'd need to jump at 11

That’s your fave scenario.

What do you think will actually happen with pick 11 and 21?

Phillipou, Hotton, and Van Es would be a really good draft.

One of the most important skills for an inside mid is consistency. You have to stay in the game at all times. From contest to contest you have to be consistent, and if you're not hunting the ball you need to be minding and following your man. Other positions on the ground are more forgiving, but inside mids need to back up again and again and again. There is both a physical component to this (i.e., supreme fitness) and a mental one (i.e., being locked in and keeping that focus all game).

For mine, West really struggles with both elements of this. His effort from contest to contest and game to game is really inconsistent. His off-the-ball minding of his opponent is hit or miss. His tackling pressure comes and goes. Sometimes he gets to the drop of the ball really well and other times he is way out of position. I don't know what goes on within the four walls of the club, but my guess is that this is what saw him dropped, and what explains the discrepancy between the way the coaches seem to rate him and how many on here rate him.

When you add to this his athletic and skill limitations and the fact that he has at times been a bit of a ball hog, there are significant question marks for mine on how well he can play that role at AFL level.

Full disclosure, I have never been a huge West fan. His forward play this year really surprised me - I didn't think he had that in him. Fingers crossed that he continues to prove me wrong. At any rate, though, I don't think we have enough evidence of the contrary for it to stop us picking an inside mid. I've said this before, but fans (myself included) are diabolically bad at projecting ahead what a team needs years in advance. We all melted when we picked Naughton because we had too many key defenders - that did not go well.
Agree on his inconsistency, fortunately he’s played 20 games and this is something young players tend to improve, but Athletic and skill limitations? Yeah nah

It was pretty well known we were taking Naughton
Naughton is a really good example of why the best available philosophy matters in drafting at high end picks. We were well overstocked for KPDs when we took him, and he's since had a role change and become one of our most important players (arguably 2nd behind Bont).

I really don't like the idea of spending our Pick 11 on an inside mid for example, but if someone like Clark happened to slide to our pick, you'd simply have to take him despite us being overstocked on his type.

What would people's thoughts be on picking a player who's a gun but has expressed dislike for our club? Bailey Humphrey will go before our first rounder anyway so it's theoretical, but he's been vocal on Instagram about how the Dogs are "whingers" about Dunkley leaving and he hopes Brisbane smashes us. Would we take someone like that?

Something that'd have to get worked out in meeting with players but I predict once 9 out of 10 are in a particular system their opinion would change. Personally speaking though I think it's pretty stupid/immature to talk publicly about a potential employer.

I was the one who originally spotted that and posted it but it was tongue in cheek, I wouldn’t let something that minor influence the decision.

Out of context it looked not great but I’ll happily shit on teams I don’t actually have any problem with for a laugh if my mate follows them and I’d assume that’s what it was.

If Busslinger is there at the start of round 2 then we surely have a crack at trading for the GWS pick 19 to get ahead of West Coast. That 1st pick of the second round really is an absolute cracker in the current draft format.

It also costs a premium
Yes, we on BF do like our instant gratification (and we want it NOW!) But this year's draft is looking a bit meh.

I'd much rather we keep our F1 and F2 picks in place for what is reported to be a much stronger draft in 2023.

If Busslinger is there that means Eagles have already passed on him twice. I don't think they'll take Busslinger at 20 if Barnett is still on the table. That's of course they don't draft Barnett at 12.

If you're the club seeking out a trade you always need to pay a premium. Probably costs a F3
I'd imagine GWS would be interested in swapping 11, 21 and 39 for 18, 19 and 31 since I'm not sure they'll use any more than 2 picks.
Not sure if do it though.
Feel like there is still likely elite talent at 11 but not at 18
