How’s he a consensus top 3 pick in a much stronger draft though if he’s only just a top 10 lock in this one? From all reports the top end this year sucks

I don’t know why everyone’s so worked up about future picks, I don’t want 3 picks next year - we should be trying to trade into this draft, we have a severe lack of young talent on the list which needs to be addressed sooner rather than later and this draft suits our needs to a tee
Would probably see if we could cut a deal with Swans or GWS to get another teens pick this year for the F1 to grab another talent this year.
A few around the mark Hayes , Weddle and Konstanty a few that come to mind that could fill some gaps now.

Just ask a question on the herald sun website about our pick 11 and this is the answer I got.

Chris Cavanagh

now
They like Ollie Hollands and Ed Allan as outside running players. But I wouldn't rule out a key defender like Jedd Busslinger or Lewis Hayes, either

My vibe is that I’m pretty sure we’ll be drafting Ollie Hollands. Part of me is just not excited about drafting a winger so high up, particularly one whose elite trait is running rather than ball use or marking or something flashy, but I’ll watch some highlights and see if I can get myself hyped. He’d certainly play round 1.

Given the type of player Hollands is, you're not going to get a good read of his ability with a highlights package. You'd need to watch full games to appreciate his game, which is probably a big ask if you work full time

Carlton are also into Hollands

I'm betting they take Buss.

Hollands' write-ups just sound super boring, but I know doing everything well is just as valuable as having one or two big x-factor traits. We've been spoiled by our last bunch of first-rounders all being excitement machines.

Sometimes the players floor is so high, that even without elite abilities in anything; the players is worth drafting. You know the minimum you are going to get and that is still valuable.

I would prefer to try and trade 11&39 for 18&19 but we might not have that option.

I suspect we end up with either Buss or Hollands. Whoever we take probably affects who we target at our second and third picks.

TBH I think a good winger and KPD are both list needs, if our recruiting staff think that Buss can become one in the AFL system.

My non-educated guess for the first round

North 1. Aaron Cademan
North 2. Harry Sheezel
North 3. George Wardlaw
Lions 4. Lions Bid Accepted Will Ashcroft
Bombers 5. Tsatas
GC 6. Busslinger
Hawks 7. Phillipou
Geelong 8. McKenzie
West Coast 9. Ginbey
Saint Kilda 10. Humphrey
Carlton 11. Jhye Clark (geelong falcons)
Bulldogs 12. Hollands
West Coast 13. Ed Allan
Melbourne 14. Jefferons
Swans 15. Cowan
GWS 16. Weddle
Collingwood 17. Hayes
Bombers 18. Match Swans bid for Davey Jr
Swans 19. Hewett

Hollands has insane endurance, runs both ways (and has an actually defensive aspect to his game, not just running into defence to get cheap possessions), is competitive, and has good read of the play. The club who drafts him is just about guaranteed a good best 22 wing for the next decade, even if his potential ceiling isn't as high as a Sheezel, Phillipou type.

Sam Walsh and Jack Macrae are both players who have often been described quite similarly to Hollands. Meanwhile you've got guys like Paddy Dow who, in his draft year, was described as a powerful burst mid with scoreboard impact. Who would you rather?

With how our team is looking at the moment, a winger with a very high floor would be a good option. Can't get someone with huge X factor every year I guess.

Looks like an 'effective' user of the ball and seems to have more kicking penetration than Hunter ever has.

Honestly none of the options likely there at our first pick "excite" me. I have concerns over all of Phillipou, Busslinger, Hollands, Allan, etc. The main thing is I feel Hollands has the highest floor and, perhaps more importantly, has a defensive game. Grabbing him at 11 would at least give me more confidence in gambling on someone like Jones or George at our next pick who, in my opinion, have higher ceilings and significantly lower floors. I have faith we will get one of Van Es or Phillips with our pick 39 if we don't get a tall any sooner

Apparently versatile too, so could replace some of the ‘low ceiling, also low floor’, players we roll out across the various lines regularly.
