West Coast need players, starting a rebuild.
Melbourne traditionally grade future picks to get into a draft rather than the other way round.

I like the idea but it would be a hard ask in practice

IF available, WC will take Allen at 12. Dees would take MacKenzie at 13 IF available…. So yes, too hard to trade out in that respect.

Blues?
But then it would be future first and second…. OR 2 future firsts for a future second…. Which is too much.

Two Rookie spots open, Dogs will draft one and sign Baker to the second spot
Hard to warm to Baker. He's reportedly got speed but not much else.

I hope the club finds a lot more in him than the commentary I've read.

Reckon Allan has a higher ceiling, plus a better outside game which is what we lack. Given that we don’t need a round 1 ready mid, and can put some time into development, I’d prefer Allan.
What is the higher ceiling based off?
From what I've seen and read Alan has tested fast but doesn't really show it in games where McKenzie has shown an ability to burst away from packs.
Alan is slightly taller than the 188 cm McKenzie but that doesn't necessarily mean he plays tall or is good overhead.
Aside from that McKenzie is the best kick in the draft, can win hard balls, can accumulate and use it in the outside.
I'm not disagreeing, because it seems like clubs are really in to Alan, just wondering why.
It's kind of like you could have a luxury yacht or a mystery box which could even be a luxury yacht!

From someone connected to Phillips - Carlton have shown the most interest to date. Things might change as teams are playing things close to their chest, but seemingly some chance he may go undrafted and picked up by Carlton as SSP.

The SSP thing confuses me a little bit. Surely there is not a high chance of 'missing out' on these kinds of players (and it wouldn't make that much of a difference if you did), and as delisted players it is hard to believe they are categorically better than every player that will be available at your rookie selection. So why not wait 'til the rookie draft and see who's on the board?

Absolutely, if Phillips is there as a rookie and we take baker I'll lose my mind.

Maybe Baker had other offers and we had to commit?

It's that weird thing where a lack of exposure can sometimes help a player, and exposed good form can be discounted.

The talk of possibly doing draft day trades excites me. Do we move up or down? In or out?

Sounds like we already have it all planned out and have settled on the players we want.

Only four more sleeps to go.

You overpay if you want to move up or take overs to move down/out. I’m thinking that if anything, we will look to trade out if the player we want has already been taken

Every club wants to move up it seems - perhaps we'll move a pick back a few spots and pick up extra future picks?

I think we're in a decent spot to move 39 up to GWS' 31 as of they don't get a good deal for pick 19 they may not use 31 anyway.

Those pick will be 4 picks apart after Brisbane's 4 picks dissolve.
GWS will likely lose that pick for their academy player also so shouldn't cost much.

Western Bulldogs national recruiting manager Dom Milesi confirmed on NAB AFL Draft Countdown that Baker is a player of interest once the SSP opens on December 5.

"At the moment, we've got two rookie selections. We'll probably potentially pick with one of those and then pass the other one for the SSP," Milesi told NAB AFL Draft Countdown on Thursday afternoon.

"Oskar is one of a number of delisted players we are looking at. Clearly if we were to go down that path, what he would bring is some speed and an ability to play on the wing.

"He has been in the system for four or five years and he hasn't been able to get many opportunities just because of the fact he’s been at a really strong club that is really strong in that area of the ground.

"He is one of a number of delisted free agents we are exploring."The Western Bulldogs traded Sutton Medallist Lachie Hunter to Melbourne during a chaotic deadline day, opening the door for Baker to come back the other way, albeit via a different route

This I don’t understand. Why wouldn’t a player, to give themselves the best chance of getting drafted, nominate for the rookie draft too? What is so special about the SSP? If a player is thought to be good enough to be selected we would take him in the rookie draft. Does ability increase just by being in the SSP? Is it just because the SSP is later and we need that time to suddenly see a hole in our list?

That Herald Sun phantom is pretty gross. Taking Allan when McKenzie is still on the board is awful. I don't mind George at 21, but not if our 11 is someone as speculative as Allan

I suspect we will know who our first pick is when cal twomey releases his phantom draft, he has a good strike rate and knowledge with those top 20 picks or so

Can’t see the saints passing on him since he has come through their academy

People keep saying that but I just can’t see how it’s relevant. They’ll pick the player they rate the highest the same as everyone else.

I really hope we have game planned live swoping pick 11/12 for a future first and then using some of next years collateral to trade for Finn Callaghan and still stay in the first round next year. It’s always sexier to take a player in the draft but Callaghan would be a better fit than anyone that will fall to us this year and 3 first rounders next year would be bloody useful to get it done and still take a super draft first rounder. Gold Coast would be a good target as alluded to several pages ago.
