When I say left-wing political project, I'm talking about radical labour movements like we had in the early 20th century, or the ones we've been seeing in Latin America for the past few decades. Real steps towards economic equality that take power away from capitalist forces. You're never going to get wealthy homeowners on board with that, they're too happy with things as they are.
Yeah, I can't see Kooyong or Wentworth getting behind that.

Interesting, was that just your seat?

No idea about ON, but in my electorate UAP had Green last, Labor 2nd last, Libs 3rd.last. I live in one of the safest Labor seats in Vic so it wouldn't have made much difference who they preferenced, just interested to know if they changed it around depending on the seat or area.
mine had LNP last, labor 2nd last and greens 3rd last. They preferenced Liberal democrats first, ON 2nd, and independent 3rd.

either way, LNP stuffed themselves by pissing off the minor "right" leaning parties.

the teals wouldn't work as an entire national party. their message only works in a very specific kind of electorate: wealthy suburban areas full of people who definitely believe in climate change, but are fundamentally conservative in all their other beliefs. People who will never support a genuine left-wing political project because they grew up under the red scare and they're afraid of having to pay more taxes. Other kinds of suburban electorates will break for Labor or the Liberals depending on their age/class makeup, and inner-city electorates will keep going towards the Greens, because that's where the young people are who have duck all economic opportunity and just want a future that doesn't see them drowning in boiling water.

It's an incoherent ideology. We want action on climate change, but we love the forces that cause climate change. We need to protect the environment, but we still want massive suburban houses and 4 wheel drives to take us absolutely everywhere.
Listened to an interview with defending independent member for indi who stressed she was different to the teal indies and her commitments were based on the needs of her rural seat.

Haines predates the teal movement though.
She’s the one who designed the federal ICAC legislation in the last parliament.

and had a massive swing towards her to consolodate her seat, massive change in Indi from the days when Mirrabella had a near 20% majority!
It really is breathtaking how quickly the conservative wing of the liberals have trashed their standing in their party’s onetime heartland. That Indi victory for Cathy Macgowan was the canary in the coal mine.

Yeah those indies will be social progressives but they represent Toorak and Brighton Ffs. Any genuine wealth distribution attempted by the ALP (lol) will not be supported by them.

That’s exactly right. If Labor start ‘interfering’ with negative gearing, family trusts, corporate crime/fraud, franking credits and every other tax avoidance scheme out there that keeps all these pretend teal champagne socialists from maintaining their jetset lifestyle and getting richer and richer I don’t think in 3 years time they will be as enthusiastic in voting these disruptors into parliament. The Teal ‘crowd’ seem to be a bunch of bored, rich virtue signalling types who won’t really be affected by any climate change costs their policies will result in (petrol, gas, electricity, increased taxes etc). The system will simply chew up the teal candidates and spit them out in the end. They will just end up like all politicians, grubby and corrupt freeloaders.

A smart leader will use the Green vote, climate / integrity backed independents as a tool to push their own more conservative elements. Basically allowing themselves to be "forced" a little more to the table on these issues as the electorate has spoken and they need Senate (and maybe house) approval.

Maybe, or he can use them as the bad guys to push his own party hard. I think people are underestimating this PM slightly - everything I've heard indicates he listens and is a very shrewd operator when it comes to getting consensus across multiple parties.
Same. I'm told that he's a good operator. Irrespective of who you voted for, I hope he shoots the lights out

Me too. Irrespective of individual political leanings - I rarely vote Labor to be honest - we have seen how damaging this continued polarised politics has been worldwide. If a more consensus Government can drag multiple parties back towards a more centrist and cooperative position we will all be better for it in the long run.

you may actually want to go and research a few of their profiles, they are Doctors, CEOs Buisness leaders and City Councillers. candidates with genuine achievements that would have taken a lot of effort/work and sacrifice to achieve. hardly reads like the cast out of bored housewives.

Spender for example even worked as a policy analyst in the U.K. Treasury! surely a pretty good grounding to gain an understanding of the "costs of her policies"???

good grief.

I for one actually prefer people with real-life experience, rather than career politicians - particularly when they have excelled at that real-life experience.
