Only 37 votes in it 2pp. Looks like heading to a recount.

1) preferences have not been effected yet, and wont be until the primary count is concluded (because of the close numbers). Until the preferences are washed through, we wont know who is 2nd and 3rd (thanks to nutburger and AJP preferences)

2) recounts happen for every electorate. this isnt the usa where we do them by exception, we double check everything because we want to make sure the manual count is accurate

Bob Katter is probably father of the house now. He would be ideal as he probably wouldn't support the incoming government as much as the others.

"The Speaker calls on the member for such and such to shut his gob we've heard enough of their drivel."

Australia is unique, and there's no one more unique than Bob Katter.

He'll govern the unruly House of Representatives with an iron whip and a Far North Queensland sense of fairness, common sense and no truck for stupid behaviour!

We need Bob to keep the Labor hardheads, the National deadheads, the sore Liberals, teal idealists and Green enviro-socialist-lefties in check!

It's either Bob Katter or Andrew Wilkie.
We all know what Australia wants!
Bob Katter for Speaker of the House!
"Order in the House you bloody mongrels, the Member for Cook will leave the Chamber for one hour under Standing Order..."
It's either Bob or Andrew Wilkie

C'mon Albo, make it happen!

Don't think it will happen will almost certainly be a Labor member as that is the convention but it probably would appeal to Katter's love of theatrics much like it did to Slipper, not sure he'll partake in the pomp and ceremony as much as Slipper did though.

My mistake re 2pp.
Although recounts only happen in close seats. They do get checked once at every electorate but a full recount only occurs when there's a certain number of votes difference at the end.
Some close electorates can have multiple recounts.

Quite obviously because the Liberals don’t seek to govern alone

The various parties of the Coalition seek to represent Australians collectively, not individually - so their collective primary vote is what is important

If the Liberals ever seek to claim a national mandate in their own right (as the ALP does), their own national primary vote will become relevant

The reality of this election is 7 out of 10 Australians did not vote for the Government & so what* !!

See this: 'It's the national electorate that's breaking apart': Antony Green on the election result
' ... the total major party vote has never been so low, either.

*A parliament is elected, and a government will be formed. People have voted in 151 electorates and have elected 151 members to the parliament, and that parliament will resolve a government.

The Labor Party had a low vote, but there was a 12 per cent vote for the Greens. There is a significant loss of seats by the Liberal Party to independents with policies the Coalition didn't support.

People say there hasn't been a shift from the Coalition to Labor, that the public isn't wedded to that agenda. Well, no there isn't.

But the fact is there's a whole swag of new members of that parliament that want action on climate change and action on corruption commissions, which the Coalition wasn't offering and Labor is offering a version of it.

That's what the Australian electorate has elected. It might not be from one party, but that's what the public voted on.

The caveat is there's a vast gulf between the cities and results in the country.

This result has shown the starkest cleavage between city and country that we've seen in a long while on very fundamental issues like climate change policy.

We've seen extraordinary sweeping change across the capital cities.'

every electorate is recounted - its just not publicised because its only tweeks in numbers that make SFA difference to the final result

the recounts for the close ones are prioritized, and are covered by the media
