Funny how the battles picked are never in support or marginalised groups
No support for refugees, no support for welfare, except pensioners
No support for workers actions but stage 3 tax cuts are sweet
Lose the battle and win the war…

There is going to be plenty of reform, but remember the ALP will be getting attacked from multiple fronts.

I’m tipping the support for welfare through increased rent assistants and other measures.

So where does the coalitions rumoured superannuation changes announced today land in the annals of coalition shitf***ery and economic vandalism?

Once more into the breach old friends for the boomers it seems.

He's saying it'll get first home buyers into the housing market! * me dead, how are these kids going to afford to buy?

You can bet a 55 year old isn't going to be selling for under $1.5m..just more policy on the run from a very loose unit.

this s**t

It's a dumb Liberal idea that Labor is "me too-ing" so as not to make a fuss. It will never go anywhere because
you will never recover the money. Most people who are deported under s501 of the Migration Act (visa character cancelations)
- which is the group this will apply to, get the message and don't try to return. 99% get turned around at the border.
This will die a quiet death after the election regardless of who wins. I don't thing it is particularly racist actually.

Why is there an age limit at all? Also at 55 you can’t access that 300k so you might as well leave it in invested in your house

It might encourage someone who was keen to do that anyway, or is so cash poor they will do it.

But then thers stamp duty. Even downsizing means potential retirees are writing off a years salary. Owned housing has artificial barriers which they are seeking to solve with even more artificial constructs

Also the qualifying age was going to be lowered from 65 to 60 anyway. At 60 you can access your super, even if working

Also as the years go in, these incentives are getting ‘better’ why not wait and see how generous governments will get

Really?
That's amazing

Guess it prompts the question is this time genuinely different

He needs twice the miracle* and even he admits he’s on the nose. Revelations this week of coalition infighting will probably seal the deal.

*The miracle being silent Australians who won’t openly say they vote coalition, but actually do

More superannuation tax breaks for boomers. * me dead.

What a ridiculous policy that will only further inflate house prices for young people. If you sell to downsize your house, you’ll be in the market for entry level homes that young people are looking to buy. This helps absolutely ******* no one other than boomers sitting on wealth on their homes.

Morrison’s entire playbook is 1. Hand out as much taxpayer money as he can to seats in play & 2. Try to create culture war wedges or otherwise demean the labor party.

The most ridiculous irony about a fool like Morrison is if he actually listened to informed advice & formulated policy beneficial to Australia & presented it without regard to labor, just as good policy he would win in a canter with the advantage of a completely complicit media & incumbency.

He is entirely incapable of viewing politics as anything other than adversarial & in marketing terms.

Wedge politics is the enemy of good policy & governance. Remember when parties could act in a bipartisan manner to achieve the best outcomes? Morrison couldn’t even contemplate it. He’s like Trump, it’s only about winning & humiliating your opponents.

Trash like Murdoch & Stokes have completely abandoned the support of good policy or sound economic management in favor of modern fascism where business, media & government collude to rort the coffers of the country & people are just useful idiots to be manipulated.

Nailed it.

What has Penny Wong done wrong exactly?
He is basically pretending that he watched her in the debate, which he didn’t, and is now trying to pretend that the only reason he doesn’t want to expand on his view is because he’s not allowed to.

The apparent problem is housing close to schools and family friendly resources are mostly occupied by empty nesters. It also leads to more road congestion around schools which would be the easiest part of congestion to solve. Empty nesters might want to go to a lifestyle property which might not be so attractive to working families. By location

But the problem I think is more the ridiculous brake that stamp duty puts on housing movement.

Anyone sitting on a house for more than 10 years especially in blue chip areas has wealth there

Can you sell half the house? 😂… to your kids …

I can see the bank of mum and dad doing deals with their kids

You can reverse mortgage which even at increased rates is not keeping up with earnings through super

And taking cash out of your equity on your residence (which is outside the means test) incurs no tax nor affects the income test

So the downsizing sweeteners actually need to get much much sweeter to tempt anyone with serious equity. It will be liquid cash poor people who take this up

Out house in Canterbury was $300k 30 years ago and now $3million or so. Smallish house which would fit inside our friends tennis court in donvale.

If it doubles in another ten years then a modest reverse mortgage will pose hardly any risk, and the interest will probably be smaller than if you take the same $$$ out of super type investments. The cash taken will not be meanstested

Or you could downsize for no apparent reason whatsoever

Economies around the world are on the verge of having to pay the piper for years of QE.
In one of Keating's many takedowns of Howard & co he says that Howard and co were cheering when Labor won in '83 because they knew that they left a big mess & had no idea to fix it. And a big mess it was.
Albo will inherit a similar mess. It gives Labor a massive opportunity. An opportunity to bin trickle-down BS that has failed the country.
Albo has said most of the right things, like leaving noone behind, but the time for talk stops straight after the election result is known and it becomes time to walk the walk. It won't be easy under Albanese because the MSM will continue tearing down anything that doesn't suit the trickle-down BS. It will mean that people may have to give up something in order for others to have something. That won't be an easy sell. Do-able, but not easy.

It won’t be sleazy under Albanese. The upcoming tax cuts will be the first battle ground you’d think

All these issues come back to stamp duty… which state governments aren’t giving up anytime soon

And children screw up all these schemes by getting married

Couldn't be any worse than not knowing the RBA cash rate or the unemployment figures

Anyone wanting to become PM should be able to recite those without so much as a stumble or checking a note book.

A PM shouldn't piss $2billion on an illegal scheme which also caused suicides of some of its victims.

If you think a simple gotcha question is more important, then I'd suggest that's a reflection on values. Both yours & the Mud-doch gutter press.

Have a nice day. ;)

The it's not racism it's classism it a great way of hiding the racism

All it really shows is money can overcome some barriers, not whether those barriers are rooted in racism
It is racism all right.

The fear of immigrants, refugees in particular, is clearly rooted in a horror at their participating in the shaping of the nation and benefiting from the better quality of life offered to them (racist or not) in comparison to the horrors they and their families have tried desperately to escape from. And they bring their different coloured skin and different languages and cultures along with it which people find disturbing. We don’t want brown people taking welfare in the time it will take them to train and enter our workforce - OUR welfare is for white guys and their children down on their luck. And then they exploit OUR SCHOOLING SYSTEM by sending their brown children to our schools, so our kids have to learn with people who DON’T EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH PROPER. And then when they have stolen our schools, they want their children THAT WE PAID TO EDUCATE to go to university taking OUR KIDS UNIVERSITY PLACES. And even the notably low numbers of refugees we agree to take, well then we can’t go to dinner because in fear of our lives about AFRICAN GANGS!

It’s not about class - the lifting of the minimum wage etc. are pitched towards lifting the quality of life for Australians. And there is a bizarre and essentially middle class view in Australia that any money given to a non-citizen is “stealing money from me”. And that’s what black and brown people do. Steal money from nice white folk.
