FIFA are now saying the playoff matches are likely to be 1 leg held at a neutral venue. Makes it much more of a lottery and we would have to win the Asian playoff first ( The Asian playoff is definitely a 1 off game at a neutral venue).

edit: Its now confirmed the playoffs are 1 leg games at neutral venues.

Ok we did for a few WC's but you get the drift. If only Arnold could coach.

I don't rate Arnold at all but, also, we just don't have the players and, ultimately, aren't good enough to qualify. It really is sad that after the golden generation and with the rapid increase in popularity of the sport in this country, you'd think the national team would go forwards but we're going backwards at the rate of knots. There's not exactly much elite talent coming through the ranks either.

Italy have drawn in quite a few of their recent games. Spain then England in the Euros. Bulgaria, Switzerland twice, Northern Ireland in the WC qualifying.

I assume the format in these playoffs will be 90 minutes plus 30 minutes extra time if required then penalties.

South Korea can qualify with
1) A win over Syria OR a UAE loss or draw against Iran

Saudi Arabia can qualify with a win over Japan and Australia failing to defeat Oman

CONEMBOL qualifiers on the 1st
Ecuador can qualify with a win over Argentina

And the Jan-Feb ties are all done with Iran and South Korea both qualifying for the World Cup

Nothing else will happen until March 17, but nothing of significance will happen until a week later (unless you call getting out of the OFC group stage significant)
