Adam Schneider was interviewed today by Drain Russell and had some interesting thoughts , especially when it got on to us . Reckons our culture is something else and players from other states are made so welcome and happy that they don't want to go home .

Ross Lyon blowing up not one, but two quality AFL lists, never winning a premiership in over a decade of senior coaching, bullying an indigenous player who would later commit suicide, forcing a playing group to accept a captain they did not vote for, antagonising a Brownlow Medallist to the point he requests a trade out of Freo, sexually harassing a pregnant woman and paying her hush-money, and STILL being given a senior coaching job again is proof that cancel culture is just a myth.

Absolute prick

Rate him

Hope he does well and reckon he will

Got average list to finals and wasn’t gifted a list like some

? he took over the saints from Thomas off multiple finals appearances and had arguably some of their best players of all time , Hayes, Riewoldt, Goddard, DalSanto, Ball etc

then he pissed off to freo who missed finals sure, but were one year off playing them and had what fyfe, pav and most of their best of all time

Agree to disagree

Don’t think he was gifted like some

Freon list was average af

Ball and dalsanto best of all time lol

Takes more than one or 2 players

Think he is a very good coach

Ball and Dalsanto were both right up there at the time and in that clubs shitty history, not saying league wide all time greats

But Grant Thomas didnt exactly pass on a junk team, he inherited a better list than Horse did after Roos for example

Let's not also forget the embarrassing media rounds he did in 2016 when Freo were like 0-9 and he was like "this year was always going to be a rebuilding year for us".... one year after winning the minor premiership.

Saints being Saints. Should have cut Ratten after they couldn't make finals. Traded out senior players for draft picks this offseason and started a rebuild with a young coach.
Instead they, re-sign Ratten, then pay out Ratten for multi years, get the most boring man in football as new (probably highly paid) coach and a team that could potentially reach its peak winning one, MAYBE (not really) two finals in a dream scenario.

They should probably pack it in and stay in the VFL. Another decade of nothingness beckons.

You can hate Ross Lyon as a person, I don't care.

The over the top negativity about his coaching ability that has been going on for years is a bit much. If losing grand finals is such a negative trait we would have sacked Horse ages ago.

He has made grand finals within 3 years of being a coach at both of his clubs and you could argue he was the major braintrust behind the Swans 05/06 run in regards to the ultra defensive gameplan we used. He gets the most out of established lists, even if he can't appear to maintain a lists quality over a few years.

The Saints list isn't particularly good enough to begin with, despite what they themselves think. They lack experience in the key forwards and the midfield is talented but one-dimensional. Every single one of their midfielders is the same slow, inside mid with no footskills.

Ratten was hard done by but you can do far worse than Ross Lyon and I'm surprised it took this long for hm to return honestly.

I won’t comment on Ross Lyon as a person - because I just don’t know.

But I do think he’s been a pretty astute coach - albeit with a boring game style.

His main problem is that St Kilda’s list is ordinary & going nowhere fast.
And how f ing good is that and Gill has made sure they get so much financial support . 1 FLAG IN 149 YEARS

It's interesting that now that coach-everyone-seems-to-like Ratten has been unfairly-because-everyone-seemed-to-like-him sacked, St Kilda's list is all of a sudden so shit.

They have as many first round draft picks as we do and have been amongst the most prolific clubs at the trade table, cited as "winners" of multiple trade periods in recent years.

The media laying their boot into St Kilda's list are basically just saying that the first round draft picks they hyped up are overrated and all of their prior trade period assessments were dead wrong.

I'd say that being a good person is a prerequisite for being a good coach though. Coaching is so much more than just what you do with a bunch of magnets on a board and some training cones.

If you are causing dissent amongst a playing group, being too stubborn to listen to those around you, antagonising elite players to the point they request a trade out of the club, electing a captain your players didn't want, sexually harassing women so your club's under the shadow of a PR scandal during the season.... how's that good coaching?

Whose the brownlow medalist you're talking about? Cause im pretty sure Ross Lyon and Lachie Neale are friends.

Lyon showed an inability to rebuild a team with his stint at Fremantle. They we're hovering in middle part of the bottom of the ladder for a long time, until they finally got rid of him and invested in a new coach, at which point they've consistently improved year on year.

Comparing him to Horse is an insult, only two years out of the 8, and we've never looked lost like Fremantle did.

They were hovering because they had literally just started the rebuild, of course they're better now that they are 6 years into a rebuild. They drafted Brayshaw, Darcy, Schultz, Cox, Ryan, Switkowski, Serong, Logue, Young and Cerra in his last few years.

And they were improving, looking at percentage alone they went from 76% to 92% from 2018 to 2019 and of their 9 wins, 5 of them were against top 8 teams. They actually went backwards from 2020 to 2021 where they couldn't beat any top 8 teams at all, until it finally came together and they exploded this year.

This is the 22 from the last win he had as coach, a 6 goal come from behind win over top of the ladder Geelong. All the players that are winning them games now are 21 or younger.

That team at that time is a significantly shitter team than the St Kilda team he just inherited, which I don't rate as much more than a top 8 filler anyway.
